Here’s the recap of my girls trip to Bald Head Island with two of my dearest girlfriends from high school.
It’s been 20 years!
It had been 20 years since the last time we sung karaoke together in pajamas. Far too long!!! Of course we’ve seen each other over the years, but not for more than a meal or a happy hour. We were long overdue for a reunion, and a girls trip to Bald Head Island was the perfect setting.
2021 was supposed to be our 20th high school reunion. It was scheduled for October 9, but the turnout was so low we had to cancel. So instead we took the reunion to the island!
Shout out to the fourth OG, Kirst, who wasn’t able to fly in from California. And to Lydia’s brother Hugh David who was right there with us for all of our middle and high school adventures!
Girls Trip To BHI
Naturally we stayed at our family house, Marsh Onward! We got so lucky with perfect warm, sunny weather all weekend!
New porch furniture!
Thursday
We settled in with a cheese board and some vino.
And then drive to Delphina’s at the harbor for a casual dinner. Pitcher of margs required.
Friday
Thursday was a late night talking on the porch until we could barely hold our eyes open (so much to catch up on!), but with no kids, schedule, or expectations, we were able to sleep in on Friday morning!
Bagels on the porch
Power Walk Talk
We went for a long power walk (more talking!) and then made lunch to take to the beach for the day.
Tribute to Lu-e-g’s
Bagels and tuna pitas in honor of our favorite eatery growing up, Lu-e-g’s! + lots of kettle chips.
Happy Hour on the dock!
After showers and some recharge time, we had happy hour on the dock and then headed to dinner at the Club.
Dinner at Horizons
We had dinner on the deck at Horizons. Famous smoked mahi dip with saltines.
And halibut with grits for me!
Musical Performances
Growing up we used to put on performances, which we recorded on Lydia’s giant family camcorder, and so we watched some of our old home movies and then had a karaoke party!
Lydia has this mic and I am buying my own when I get home! It was awesome.

Saturday
Quiet time with coffee on the porch. I had a bagel and grapes three days in a row.
The Island Spa
Then we had massage appointments at the spa! ’Twas luxurious.
I picked up a green juice and bar to have as a light lunch.
Beach Day On Repeat
After some down time and lunch we headed back to the beach for the afternoon!
Becca and I did long walks each day. We were SO very lucky with perfect 80 degree temps.
Formal Night
We went back to Horizons for dinner again (dining options on the island are quite limited!), but we loved the view and menu.
We got the smoked mahi dip AGAIN – because it’s so, so good. (I need to make a sardine dip like this…!)
I ordered the crab cakes, and we shared a Caesar salad three ways.
Cozy Twinning Clothes + Home Videos
We ended our final night watching more home videos. One of an 9th grade gymnastics performance by Becca and me, and more homemade music videos.
We had a wonderful trip
And we’ll have to do the next one sooner than 20 years from now.

Sounds like you had a great weekend! I’m looking for a lightweight jacket and your ‘twinning’ ones look cute. Are they a recent purchase, and if so, would you share your source?
Kath Younger says
It’s an older version of the Define Jacket from Lulu!

My college girlfriends had our annual (minus 2020) girls’ trip this past weekend too! We stayed close by, at a cute town about an hour away, due to covid concerns and turns out that was a good idea because two of our eight were unable to join due to kid-covid related things (everyone is OK!). It’s always SUCH a rejuvenating weekend for all of us with SO MUCH TALKING – it feels like no matter how much we talk we can talk more! Romantic relationships are wonderful but there is nothing like female friendships. I have so much respect for the women in my life and it’s clear you do as well! Thanks for sharing (PS – your food looks heavenly).
Kath Younger says
We agreed this needed to be an annual (or at least biannual!) thing from now on!

This looks so fun! I love the throwback pictures. I still keep in touch with my two best girlfriends from high school. This would be so fun to take a trip like this! I love that you guys did the reunion your way when the class reunion didn’t work out! Thanks for sharing. It was fun to live vicariously through you and your beach trip!
