Our sun is back out and the skies are bright blue. We couldn’t wait to get outside!
Breakfast on the deck – a super green smoothie with some Quaker Real Medleys granola on top. By the way, the answer to this question was smoothie!! Although it sure looked like pea soup to me.
We hosted Sylvia for a sleepover so her parents could celebrate their wedding anniversary earlier this week. The kids had fun at the playground –
Fingerpainting (thank goodness for Crayola’s mess-free line of craft supplies!)
And baking (and eating!) double chocolate chip cookies
This is why I don’t bake – zero willpower for the dough!!
Matt and I have been eating well these past few days. While I supervised the Sayas, Matt made this dish of garlic and white wine pasta with mussels, greens and red peppers. Some vino as well!
Simple breakfast on a busy morning getting two to school! Karen bought some raisin bran while she was here, so I had a bowl of that. I don’t eat cereal for breakfast that often, but this was pretty tasty!
We had this soup for dinner and lunch this week too – sweet potatoes, leftover quinoa, bacon, bok choy and broth. Super simple and healthy – and wonderful topped with goat cheese!
Matt and I had another fancy dinner this week, and he cooked while I put Mazen to bed. He made friends with the owners of this line of meals – Hunter Gatherer Game Dinners – and they gave us a few to try out.
This kit was Maple Plank Pork Tenderloin with Dried Mushroom Farro Risotto. It came with a cedar plank and all of the special ingredients packed inside minus the pork and any veggies to have on the side. We added some yellow green beans, and the whole meal was wonderful! The pork was covered in a bourbon-infused sweet paprika dry rub and a homemade BBQ sauce. And the farro was so flavorful made with dried mushrooms. These would make a great gift for a foodie friend – check out all the kit options.
Matt also surprised me with dessert from Paradox Pastry – peanut butter and chocolate dreams!!
And finally I leave you with a lovely photo of my leg – and the soccer ball imprint leftover from this weekend’s game!

Those mussels look divine! The yellow beans are called wax beans, and I always thought that was kind of an unappealing name for a bean : ) Glad you were all able to get outside again! Did Virginia have any of the horrible flooding that South Carolina and other southern states did? Quick question…what are the Sayas!?
KathEats says
Our nickname for Mazen and Sylvia!

Oh wow! I guess if you’re gonna get a bruise that’s the way to do it. Ouch!

Looks like you all had a fun time! Love the photos of Mazen and his friend..so cute!

Wow, epic bruise! I got one like that once from a hard tennis serve and it took nearly a year to fade away completely. Here’s hoping yours heals faster! Love the shot of the kids having craft time. What are the Sayas again? Is it a surname or a nickname?
Kate says
Woah those beans look so cool…I totally thought they were french fries at first! Haha!
Looks like Matt made an amazing dinner of mussels. I wouldn’t know how to cook them, they seem kind of intimidating. Any tips? And what were you supervising? The Sayas?

Looks like a super fun time with the kids! There’s something magical about getting involved with art and the creative process.

What kind of pasta did Matt use with the mussels? The noodles look thicker than spaghetti. Those cookies look good. I bet the kids.. Sayas?.. Loved them.
KathEats says
Oh gosh, I forget the name, but it was like penne meets spaghetti – long tubes!

I’m soooo jealous of your mussels and white wine! That is one of my favorite dinners! I hope your bruise isn’t too painful!!
Katie says
Does the bruise hurt as much as it looks like it does? It looks like you need a “Boo Boo Stick” to put on it. Have you heard of Ava Anderson? She was 15 when she started her company that makes non-toxic, chemical-free products and she is now 21. I recently became a consultant and absolutely love the products. The boo boo stick is one of our favorites, we all have our own and I carry them in my purse, yoga bag, van because it works so well for bruises, swelling, scrapes, bug bites, scratches, headaches, cramps. It has arnica that is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. Sorry to give you so much info, but the products are amazing. You should check them out if you haven’t had the chance. All of your eats look delicious. Love the way kids play at that age! Neat that Mazen has such a good friend.

KathEats says
