Leftovers for lunch!
Tempeh Stir Fry + Brown Rice from Monday’s dinner –
Plus the Voskos I was dying to try the most: Exotic Fig. Check back in the comments later and I’ll leave my thoughts on it!
PIAJ! [Pecans]
And a little furrball of a kiwi. Yes I eat the furr and all. And yes it’s good! Think peach fuzz with a little more oomph.
Today is my 27 and 7/12 birthday!
Some QUIRKS about me:
1) I eat the skin of kiwis, per the above mention
2) I always use my shower products in the same order [in order of most to least important]
3) Matt and I make a noise that sounds like "qurrrrppp" with air in our upper lips when we don’t have anything to say
Tell me a quirk about you!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
you are so adorable!!! i always ALWAYS brush my teeth before i was my face. i do that because if i get toothpaste on my face i want to be able to wash it off. oh, and i always rinse my face 6 times when i’m washing it…don’t really know why, but 6 always seems to get all the soap off!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Haha, I eat kiwi skin too 🙂
Hmm..a quirk: I always save a ‘final mouthful’ with any meal I’m eating – a little bit of every flavour or food item which I think is the most tasty, so I get to enjoy it last. I even push it to the side of the plate so it DEFINETLY gets saved 😛 weird much!?
Emmalinda says
Nope–I do this, too!
Faith @ LovelyAsCharged says
Me too! When I ate dinners with a large group of friends at the university dining hall, they would all get such a kick out of stealing that last/best bite off my plate. Not cute!
Sami says
I started eating the skin on kiwis after I saw that you did it for the first time ! I never knew you COULD eat it, before then! I’m not one to stray away from a little extra fiber!
Quirks? Where to begin… I always eat almost the ENTIRE apple. Minus the seeds. I have the same routine when I shower, too! I color coordinate clothes in my closet. I wear flip flops in the middle of November. I can’t stand long fingernails because I always poke my eye when I’m putting my contacts in. I can eat sugar free syrup on just about anything. 🙂 And that’s not even a DENT! 😉
Christie says
I started eating kiwi skin after I noticed that you and Jenna do that. I’m much more likely to eat a kiwi now that I don’t have to bother peeling it.
Kori says
I have a shower routine that I have to follow too! haha Umm…I just seem to have some OCD tendencies, but I suppose 1 quirk would be that I usually have to listen to music at an even-numbered volume level. Odd I know.
I actually made some savory oats this afternoon and thought I would share my simple but delicious recipe with you:
1/2 c skim milk + a splash of water
1 oz old fashioned oats + a pinch of salt
2 T wheat germ
1/4 c pumpkin
3/4 oz 50% fat shredded pepperjack cheese
1 T all natural raspberry fruit spread
10-12 whole almonds
2 T chopped or mashed avocado
I had it with 1/2 c each: carrots, peppers, and celery. I dunked them into it, and I found it to be very tasty. I hope it sounds good to you, and perhaps you can give it a try and let me know what you think. Have a great Wednesday, Kath!
Carol says
I have to have an even-numbered volume too! Everyone else thinks it’s weird- glad someone else does this!
Kelly says
OMG I get irrationally angry if someone tries to put it on an odd number volume. The TV needs to be even number volume too. When I was little I would only eat things in even numbers. Like if my mom said I could have three cookies and I couldn’t get four I would only eat 2, and I had to eat things like crackers/snacks in even numbers too. Increments of 5 are also acceptable for some reason and large prime numbers seem to bother me the worst. And you thought you were strange? lol
Martha says
Ok, so I eat things in even numbers too. The “rationale” behind it is that I chew each item on a different side of my mouth, and so I want to end up feeling balanced. I’ve done this for YEARS…other people think it sounds labor-intensive, but I do it without even thinking about it! I *used* to also have the same balance issue with climbing stairs: one for each foot, so that if there were an odd number of steps I’d take the last two together!
Kelly says
OMG I totally have balance issues too, I need to feel like the things on both sides of my body are “even” I don’t even know how to explain it, but it’s basically what you said! Also I almost always despise asymmetrical things, they NEED to be even on each side, I don’t care if its less “artistic”
Kath says
Yums!
Gretchen says
The tv must be on the even number volume or it drives me absolutely crazy!
Annie @ stronghealthyfit says
You’re weird Kath 😉
I can’t think of a particularly interesting quirk about myself, but I have lots of OCD-like things that I do. We all do, I think!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Skin on the kiwi is great! I never knew you could eat it before I started seeing bloggers do it. That yogurt DOES sound great!
Let’s see.. I always always (when I’m at home) eat breakfast while watching I Love Lucy, as I have almost every season on DVD. Odd much?!
Kaci Higgins says
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LUCY!! That sounds like an excellent routine! =))
Kori says
My twin and I are absolutely in LOVE with I Love Lucy as well as the people themselves!!! We have been since we were 7, and we are 22 now. 🙂 Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, William Frawley, and Vivian Vance were, in my humble opinion, the BEST actors and actresses EVER!!! 🙂 Oh and our wonderful step-mom bought us the complete dvd collection last year for our birthday, so we watch I Love Lucy very often.
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
I have lots of quirks but can’t even think of one right now! i tried the skin on kiwis recently and thought it was just OK. Maybe a few more times and I’ll be hooked.
Barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) says
Quirks….
I go nutty if i don’t sweat once a day, like to eat my treats in weird ways; like least fav parts to fav, I’m OCD about ovens and locks..just to namje a few:)
Happy to say that because of you i know enjoy sqush and kiwi skins too!
Colleen says
I’m OCD about ovens and irons. I have to specifically look at the iron and make a mental note that I unplugged it, otherwise I will HAVE TO go back upstairs and check before leaving the house. I do the same thing w/ the stove. I have to double check that I turned the burner off after boiling water in my kettle – every morning. Have I ever left the oven on or forgotten to unplug the iron? – NO. It’s silly really 🙂
Amy Pea says
I totally do this, too, also with the coffee maker!
And then when your mind wanders when you go on Vacation (being gone from the house for a while) thinking you didn’t check them!
Stacy says
I must/really prefer to have a full glass of ice before I pour a drink.
I change the speed on the treadmill every 2 minutes at least.
I eat the skin off of kiwi’s as well!
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I also use my shower products in the same order! always!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Yay for leftovers at lunch! I love them…in fact, I am enjoying them not myself! As for the quirks…I do the same thing in the shower, yet I did not realize it until you just said something. Also, I like to start and finish my day with oats in some fashion. My morning oats are pretty much the same, but my nighttime oats are totally decadent!
Ana says
I also eat the whole kiwi! And I basically eat pears entirely, minus the stem and the little black/bown seeds, everything else is delicious in a pear!
Can’t wait to see what you thought about the yogurt, I love figs so it sounds like an interesting flavor to try, I will keep an eye open for those!
Ana
Natalie @ Keep It Sassy says
You’re allowed to eat the fur? I had no idea!
I have to hold my ears when plugging things in, usually only for the 3-prong plugs. This makes for some creative contortions involving my ear & shoulder. All thanks to the few times old plugs or outlets have blown on me!
What else…this is the first time I’ve gone blank of my quirks! My closet is also color coordinated. OH a GOOD ONE. I own a lot of nail polish (200+) and I keep them color coded in an IKEA Helmer filing cabinet. It gets worse…each bottle has a letter and a number written on top that corresponds to both a spreadsheet AND a little color palette so I can preview my color before I use it! I think I’ll just stop now. 🙂
Coco @ Opera Girl Cooks says
Just be careful about eating kiwi skin if you’re not buying organic fruit, as most of the pesticides end up there! With conventional kiwis, it’s best to peel.
I am curious about the fig yogurt, Kath!
Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I’ve never tried tempeh in a stir fry, I bet I’d love it.
Hmm, my quirks. I have so many, yet can never think of them because they are second nature to me, LOL. They’re mainly OCDs, though. I like odd numbers, mainly 3 or 1; I’m a compulsive hand-washer; I like to save the best part of the meal for last; Dustin and I do “belly bumps” and bump into each other; when I CTRL+C or V (copy/paste), I have to do it at least 3 times. Oh, when I use a calculator I have to erase it like 10 times to be sure something isn’t on it already, lol. 😳
Jenn
Ameena says
Leftovers make the best lunches!
My closet has to be color-coded in rainbow order, with shirts together, pants together, dresses together, etc. Otherwise I go into panic mode!
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
A few quirks of mine:
I hate fruit stickers with a fiery passion. I think they’re flimsy and gross and weird! I don’t know why I hate them so much, but removing the sticker is always my least favorite part of fruit consumption (which I otherwise adore!).
I actually enjoy reading the weather page on the newspaper and seeing the forecast for other parts of the country.
I could spend hours looking at topographic, contour maps.
I’m a strange one, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🙂
Lily says
AHH! I absolutely HATE fruit stickers! I have to close my eyes and make a face when removing them. So glad to know I’m not alone!
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
Yayyy! I’m so glad it’s not just me! Love it!
Kath says
I hate the stickers too!!
Suzanne says
* I plug my ears during the scary parts of horror movies. It’s the sudden loud noise/scream and the creepy music that makes it scary.
* I don’t drink any drink that’s red. When I was 11 years old, my little brother (who is 8 years younger than me) drank some red drink and was jumping around on the couch. Shortly after, he puked red stuff all over the place! Since then, I have not been able to drink red drinks.
I have yet to try eating a whole kiwi…..The fur is very furry……
Morgan says
Suzanne this is hysterical! My 4 year old son covers his ears whenever he gets scared (except his version of scary is Shrek!). I thought he was the only person out there who did this…apparently you and he are the only smart ones who caught on! 🙂
Katie says
Suzanne, I think I have a one-up on you. I hate scary movies (total scaredy-cat!) and I plug my ears and hum during the scary movie previews at the movie theatre. My husband used to be embarrassed but now thinks it’s funny – he also tells me if I’m humming louder than I think I am. Those previews are super scary!
Suzanne says
Katie, you win! 😉 I actually love scary movies – but I scare easily. I have been known to scream and jump out of my seat in the theatre. My husband laughs at me as well. 🙂
Jessica says
During scary parts of movies plug my ears, close my eyes, and sing do wah diddy ever since seeing the movie My Girl when she does it sitting on the steps to the basement. You are not alone, I also do it in the theatre, but now I just shove my head in my husbands shoulder to help muffle my do wah diddying 🙂
Suzanne says
Morgan – Your son sounds adorable! I’m sure it looks much cuter when HE does it. I just look like a big baby. 🙂
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
I refuse to bite into a banana- I have to eat it with a knife.
I hate raw tomatoes but love sundried.
I have to set clocks to odd numbers
😉
Paola says
Same same here with the banana knife thing…with apples its worse however! 😛 dont recall the last time a actually bite into a whole apple!!
im interested about eating the skin of a kiwi but i have to agree with coco , dont want to get poisoned or anything!
*awaits for the final thoughts on fig yogurt*
Lisa says
Hmmm….I didn’t know you could even eat the outer skin of a kiwi!
Morgan says
I’m excited that you posted about tempeh – I’ve never tried it but have wanted to for a while now! I’m a very quirky person so this post was perfect for me 🙂 I’ll save you the time and stick with one: I can sing a song that I learned 16 years ago listing the states in alphabetic order.
Camille says
Whenever I listen to anything that has a volume control, I MUST have it set on an increment of 5. My car stereo is usually on 40 and my TV is usually on 50. I must change it if someone else puts it on, let’s say… 47.
Weirdo!
Lindsay says
I check my stove burners before I leave the house every time – even if I haven’t used the stove that day!
I cut my oranges in a really odd/specific way because I can’t stand the white stuff!
I hate hate hate grapefruit but love how it smells!
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
I think the honey vanilla bean voskos is the very best
A quirk… hmm… I always have at least 4 tabs in google reader open
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
All those colors look so pretty! And YOU are the one that got me hooked on eating kiwi skins… I honestly didn’t think you COULD eat them before you shared that with us. Now I always eat them. 🙂
Doug says
Funny, I used to eat kiwi skins, then I stopped after hearing part of the last sentence on an NPR story that suggested (to me) that maybe that it wasn’t a good thing to do. So, heck with that, think I’ll take it up again. Thanks Kath
alyssa says
What did they say on NPR? Now I’m super curious about the whole kiwi issue… I really had never even heard of eating the skin until now! It would definitely make eating one a whole lot easier 🙂
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
quirk about me – whenever i say knock on wood, i have to find wood to knock on… if there’s nothing around i just knock on something & tell myself “there’s gotta be some wood in that!”
Nicole (the other one) says
If there is nothing around, I knock on my head 😉
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
haha, I eat the skin on too although I recently realized I’m allergic to kiwi……I really always eat it along with a meal or something and when I get the irritated throat swell I just assumed it was something else like I was in denial about the possibility of being allergic to one of my favorite fruits. But no, it’s true. I still eat them though. hehe
Quirk, oh my, well here’s one I guess. I’m a barefoot runner and to me, it makes sense to be barefoot all the time……I’m sitting at my desk right now with no shoes on. I guess that’s quirky.
Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy says
Quirk — I always have to have a book or magazine to read when I blowdry my hair! I can’t blowdry my hair without reading — it’s too boring! 🙂
Jenny says
I make a scrunchy face when I’m happy, content…. and I make tons of noises while I sleep! weird, huh?
Brittany @ A Healthy Slice of Life says
I eat kiwis with skin too! I just had one yesterday… Love those furry lil fruits.
Quirks? I have to sleep on the left side of the bed… otherwise I can’t sleep because it feels weird.
I also pre-bag anything smelly before throwing it out… example- onions, banana peels, etc all get bagged in their own grocery bag before getting thrown in the trash… I guess I don’t want my trash to be smelly? haha… I guess that’s really weird!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I have to have something covering me when I sleep even on the hottest days. I used to live in an apartment with no A/c and would soak a sheet in cold water so it could cover me and feel cool when the fan blew across it.
I hate change. Hunni and I have a jar we throw it all in so I don’t have to look at it. I think it comes from counting it all in The Salvation Army kettles at christmas for work. I despise it and try to get rid of it as often as possible.
Naomi (onefitfoodie) says
i always use my shower products in the same order too!! I also hate to drink WHILE eating a meal…whenever I pour myself even a glass of water, i dont touch it till after the meal! so strange i know
I also HAVE to sleep with a fan on, even in the dead of winter…i cannot sleep in dead silence I need that white noise…yes i bring it to hotels…
ruby says
When I drink coffee in a disposable cup, I can’t handle any coffee spilling through the drinking hole onto the lid. Especially when it stains. So I always grab a handful of napkins and either cover the hole while I walk, or use them wipe any minor spillage that might occur.
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
I feel like you just turned 2.7 yesterday! : )
I heart your mini jars.
Quirk: I don’t like eating apples & pears whole – always slice them into eighths.
Lolly says
Another barefoot runner here! Well i run in VFFs on roads, barefoot on fields. Don’t let all the tiny muscles in your feet atrophy in padded shoes!
Another quirk–though not fitness/health related–I cannot touch other people’s jewelry, especially earrings, but even a bracelet or a necklace. the thought of it makes me want to hurl or i feel like i’m going to pass out.
Lindsey @ Foodie on the Rocks says
I am sooo ridiculously picky about apples. They must be cold or I won’t go near them. I only eat Fuji apples, unless I’m in a pinch I might buy one green apple to get me through. I’ve only done that once since I can even remember, though, and it was because I found some refrigerated green apples at an airport. Also, I much prefer them to be cut into wedges as opposed to eating them whole. And if they aren’t organic I peel them. Wow, I feel really high maintenance now 😉
Mom says
I don’t have any quirks. I am you mother and I am perfect, right?
Kath says
LOL.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I have to have it really cold in my house before I go to sleep but then I bundle up in a huge comforter. Oh, and I always start out on my back but can’t fall asleep unless on my stomach.
Quirks make people fun!
Lyndsey @ I'm Lyndsey says
A. Your mothers comment is adorable.
B. I always eat all of my least favorite part of the meal and save the best for last. I like things to be straight, like shoes lined up on the floor, or the remote control on the coffee table. I don’t like peeling oranges, I always cut them. Everything in the freezer must be organized. I hate when the pillow case is sitting weirdly on the pillow and I hate, HATE folded pillows, which is why I don’t let anyone sleep on mine. Oh and I don’t like when the comforter of my bed touches the floor, or when the bed itself is directly against the wall behind it (this is all do to my fear of bugs haha) Anyways, I could probably go on forever..
Lisa @ leesespeeces says
I’m a kiwi skin-eater too! My family totally thinks its the strangest thing ever.
I scrub it like no other before eating….
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
Hmmm quirk about me – well, in relation to shower products any time I buy new shower products I HAVE to test them ALL out immediately whether I truly need to shower/shave my legs/wash my face at that moment.
Oh, and that fig flavor was the one that intrigued me the most, too! Can’t wait to see your thoughts!
Kath says
Me too!!
kathleen says
I only eat yogurt with baby sized plastic spoons – I can’t stand metal spoons in my yogurt. My husband and I have the exact same nickname for each other, so our cards and Christmas gift tags look ridiculous to family members. 🙂
Fi says
I dont just stop at yogurt, I eat everything I can with a tiny spoon (or a cool shaped sppon). Oatmeal, cottage cheese, ice-cream. Thot not ceral (most is too big and just falls off) And not just to slow me down, I just like it. I used to have this collection of take away spoons I thought were cool and would choose one to eat with in the morning. I had square end shovel shaped ones (from a gelato place) and the round mini taster ones from Baskin Robbins, funny coffee stirer ones. And then my to-be husband bought me colourful baby spoons back from a trip. Aw..
And I’m a skin-on kiwi girl. I saw a little girl do it once and tried to tell her its not how you do it. She just looked at me funny and said “but i like the skin. Its furry” so I tried it and have been eating it that way ever since. Oh but I dont eat the knobbly end
M. Carter @ the Movies says
When I buy a hardcover book, I always remove and throw away the book jacket. I also feel sorry for books with broken spines that I see in used bookstores, so I buy them — even if there’s a better copy available!
What can I say? I’m neurotic about books.
Gretchen says
I take the jacket off too because I can’t stand it flapping while I’m reading!
Paula says
I HAVE to make sure the closet doors are shut TIGHTLY before I can get in bed at night. Monsters, I guess. 😉
Jess says
My supervisor eats the kiwi skin too. I remember walking into the nutrition office one morning as he was taking a big bite. I’d never seen someone do that! I’ve been thinking about trying it, as I’m in Italy right now and they have a lot of kiwis here, but haha I have to wonder if I’d freak out my fellow diners! If it tastes good, though, why not? Extra fiber…or something.
Jes says
I dont know about the whole skin on kiwi thing… I dont eat peaches for that reason… maybe i will give it a try???
Quirk about me…. I will not eat a chip that is curled over onto itself… I will only eat the flat ones. Any flavor of chips this is true. If i am at home i put it back in the bag for the boyfriend to eat or just leave it on my plate and throw it away… strange…
Kath says
OMG!! Curled chips are the BEST!!!!!!
JavaChick says
I love fresh peaches but I can’t eat the skin at all – I have to peel them. Kiwi tastes metallic to me, which I find very unpleasant, so I don’t eat them at all.
Jen says
I hate the kiwi skin! Maybe I don’t eat kiwi’s when they are ripe enough or something, but the fur grosses me out. 🙂 Anyways, I always have to have the covers on when I am sleeping…even on 90 degree days like today! My husband hates it. I also use my shower products in exactly the same order! I need to check to make sure that all appliances are unplugged before leaving the house (well, except for the fridge, stove, etc)…and when we go on trips I ask my husband 25 times if I unplugged the toaster, etc. I have more, but i’ll stop. 🙂
Amber K says
My husband and I make the kissing noise when we are across the room from one another and want the other to know we are thinking of them.
For some reason, we also say “chicken” when we can’t think of what to say next in a conversation. Even though I don’t eat meat…. Quirks are fun!
Heather says
I always order tomato on my sandwiches a delis, and I always take the tomato off before eating said sandwiches. The tomato never looks quite right, but I remain hopeful.
What is the order of most-least important shower products? I don’t deviate either: shampoo, conditioner, face wash and body wash while the conditioner works its magic, leg shaving, conditioner rinsie-poo.
Kath says
I used to do that with tomatoes too and now I like them!
Shower: Shampoo, conditioner, soap, face wash, shave.
Help Meghan Run says
Hahaha, Heather, I do that with the tomatoes, too. 🙂 Thought I was the only one!
Tish says
I was trying to imagine what the fur was in your title. Glad it wasn’t grayish green and fuzzy in your fridge! Quirks? I always go barefoot when I can, indoors and out. I take a jacuzzi bath every single night and I always read in the bath. I take a shower right after if I have to wash my hair.
Sarah says
My quirks? I eat nearly the ENTIRE apple. I get as much fruit form the core as I can before tossing the seeds. I always shower in the same order, as well (although I don’t shave every day). I know there are more, but of course, I can’t think of them at the moment.
Johanna B says
My quirk is that I have to read KERF as soon as my computer boots in the morning. Before I open email or anything else. If I don’t then the whole day seems off. Weird much?
Kath says
🙂
Christin L. says
I know the qurrrppppp noise you speak of… I do that too!!!
LOVE the honey vanilla bean Voskos the best, but can’t really eat it anymore because I have recently discovered I am lactose intolerant. 🙁
There are so many weird things about myself it’s ridiculous, but one that stands out is brushing my teeth for an absurdly long amount of time… it has to be 4-5 minutes. And recently I have been eating a lot of pickled beets, and I have a ton of fun dying all the food on my plate bright pink with the beet juice. 🙂
emily says
When I get really excited about something (which is OFTEN) I clap my hands three times. Thank goodness it’s a cute tick because I absolutely can not help it!
Johanna B says
One more quirk. Before I read a magazine I have to take out all the blow in cards and rip out all the cards, heavy pages, perfume pages, and such. It’s hard to read magazines at the library cuz I want to rip out all the cards (and I work in a library).
hemp jogger says
too many! but i hate, hate shoes. all of my clothes in the closet must hang the same way. and when i fold my pants, the seams have to be just right, so i dont get odd wrinkles or lines. oh, and everytime i unload clean dishes, they MUST go under the dishes already in the cupboard (same w/ silverware), so each dish/cutlery gets equal opportunity 🙂
Kelly says
Ha! That reminds me of when I played with toys when I was little. I thought they would “feel bad” if I didn’t play with them all equally so every toy got a turn. 🙂
Steph- Exercise Physiologist & Artist! says
One of my food quircks is that I actually like to eat frozen waffles (van’s for example) FROZEN!! haha!
Ashley says
I LOVE the voskos honey vanilla…so so good. I like voskos much more than Chobani and really close with Oikos. The only thing is it’s not organic…I also like that their plain version have low-fat and full-fat. The low fat was SO much better than the plain oikos in my opinion!! A quirk..oh gosh – I like dried fruit but not cooked dried fruit..I can eat it in granola bars because generally those aren’t cooked..but oatmeal raisin cookies, not so much. I don’t really like fruit pies either because of the consistency the fruit turns to…squishy! eeeek! I also hate mustard 🙂 Sooo many others!
Vanessa says
Hi Ashley,
Voskos Greek Yogurt has an Organic line also. Check out www.voskos.com for more information.
My quirk: I brush my teeth before I wash my face also. And I eat Voskos Organic Vanilla Bean EVERYDAY. Mostly in the mornings. If not, then I actually eat one in the afternoon. Good thing I work here!
Cates says
Quirk: I like to smell my food before I eat it…somehow, it just amplifies the whole experience! I even do it at restaurants (though I try to be discreet). 🙂 It’s funny because our senses of taste and smell are so closely linked, but I feel like I’m actually BETTER with smells and textures than with tastes. So for example, when I drink wine, it’s a lot easier for me to describe the way a wine smells or feels in my mouth, but harder to identify flavor notes. Anyone else? Fun question!
Sara @ myfancytuna.blogspot.com says
When I eat sandwiches, I have to take the first bite out of the bottom left corner. Then I rip off the crust in pieces and eat that, then a slowly bite around the sandwich until the middle is left (AKA the best part!).
Kelly says
I do that too, but just for PB & J sandwiches. And I don’t rip the crust off, I just turn the sandwich eating all of the crust until it is gone. The center really IS the best part!
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
I also eat the fuzz of the kiwi (my roomies think I’m NUTS) and I must have my toilet paper’s end coming out over the roll.
Kath says
YES! TP must go OVER. I hate unders!
Paige (Running Around Normal) says
I’m totally trying to picture what that qurrpp noise sounds like now LOL
I deconstruct my nutt butter and jelly sandwiches. I’ll take a regular bite, then a bite of the top half, and then the bottom half. People look at me a little funny, but it’s most enjoyable when it’s eaten that way!
Amy Pea says
Love your site Kath. I am also among the ones who have to see what you are up to before we start our day. I love reading about your breakfasts…they are always inspiring!
My sister’s name is Laura Claire and I call her Beebs. I just thought it was funny since your sister’s name is Laura, too and you call her Larbs.
Weird quirks – when I leave the gym after a workout, I must consume the rest of whatever’s in my huge water bottle or I cannot enter the house. Also, when there’s a really exciting show on my DVR (like an episode of Oprah I have been dying to see or 30 Rock) I cannot watch it until I have deleted everything else. It’s like I have to “clean up” before I can have my treat. I could also go on and on…I have enjoyed reading about everyone else’s strange behavior, too! 🙂
BB says
When I eat to fast, I get an itchy spot on my head. I remember sitting at the kitchen table as a child scratching my head and my mom would say “slow down and chew your food!”
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
that’s the flavor i’d go for too – i adore figs!
i have too many “quirks” to list. but i think of them as normal now!
Franziska (justalittlechocolate) says
I make little purr sounds in my sleep. When I get excited or upset about something I make up profanities that I will not mention but often they do not make sense or can be really gross. I do not like bananas raw but love them in smoothies and baked foods. After many many people have tried I can not whistle or snap very well 🙁
Lindsay says
These comments have been really fun to read! I have many quirks, but one that people always point out to me is how slow I eat. Funny thing is that I do not eat slowly because you are supposed to and its healthier, but because I LOVE food so much that I don’t want to be done when others are still eating because then I will be jealous. So from an early age when my sister and I would eat snacks together, I always had to be the last one to finish! Weird, I know…
maya says
I do that to, but mostly just with desserts. I refuse to start eating my own until everyone else has theirs and is ready to dig in… even ice cream.
Sarah R says
Weird quirk—hum—I still have one of my baby teeth. There was no adult tooth to replace it and the root is still hanging on for now!
Kath says
oh WOW!! I’ve never heard of that! Chew carefully 🙂

I can’t eat the kiwi skin – it makes my mouth and throat itchy when I do.
A quirk? It’d have to be that I have to set my alarm clock for a time on a quarter hour. If I wake up in the six o’clock hour, I set my alarm for 6:00, 6:15, 6:30, or 6:45. Very exact.

I used to hum when I ate. I was a little kid and my mom joked that I enjoyed food so much, I just started singing. I *hope* I don’t do it anymore! 😉

Good for you for eating the fuzzy, it probably makes it so much easier then pealing it. But I have to peel mine and it’s a pain in the butt.

Cut in half and scoop with a spoon! It’s full proof =)

I HAVE to have a full cup of coffee before I take a bite of my breakfast, no matter how hungry I am!
I also save the best for last when eating – like tonight I am eating a casserole I topped with cheese and flipped it upside down in my bowl so I’ll get to the cheese last – really weird I know.
I am also scared of revolving doors and can’t stand to have the car windows down (I actually put the child lock on in my car so my passengers can’t open them!)

Quirk: I like to microwave things in time amounts that contain the number ‘2’
I like this idea; everyone has great comments
(I was going to ask if you ear the fur but I guess you answered that for me)

When leaving the house, I always check and make sure the gargae is shut before I round the corner… even though its always shut bc I’m cool and OCD like that ;P

FIG YOGURT was great!!!! Nice and thick. Not too sweet. Highly recommend!

I eat the cores of apples and pears. It seems so wasteful not to!
Laura says
I eat kiwi fur too, love it. And, I always clean my teeth in the shower.

Such a colorful summer salad! Question for you… I noticed that the Naturally Nutty tri pack in your open sky shop is out of stock. Are you getting any more soon?!
Quirk: I eat the broken pieces (ex. of cookies) in a package before the whole ones. Don’t know why!
Kath says
Just discussing Nat Nutty today…crossing my fingers for Tuesday. And when it’s back, it’ll be back big time! Lots of stock, yummy flavas.

I have to change the sheets every morning and I always use a fresh towel for each shower. I also cannot go to sleep without getting a shower, even if I had one just an hour before. When I get up to go to the bathroom or wake up during the night, I cannot go back to sleep unless I brush my teeth. I hate that just woke up mouth feeling.
Michelle @ Healthy Eating Roadmap says
I love the colors of your lunch! Ive never tried the skin of a kiwi….banana I have though and its not the greatest.

My quirk… when the inside of my throat “itches” I “scratch” it by doing this weird thing of sucking in and squeezing my throat together… it’s strange and I’ve done it for as long as I can remember, but it’s also something I do out of habit and it freaks people out when they hear the noise and wonder what I’m doing. I’ve noticed that my kids do it too… weird!
Kim says
I like the Fig too, but was bummed when I saw how much sugar is in it, 22 grams! So now I get plain greek yogurt and mix in a little fig jam. Yummy!
Kristina says
Trader Joe’s used to have this great fig yogurt (its own brand) that they took off the market. I was sad, although I’m still a fan of the honey.
Someone mentioned the clock thing – I set all of the clocks around the house at least 5 minutes fast, but sometimes it’s more like 6 or 7 minutes fast. And I NEVER set my alarm on the hour – it’s always 5:57 or 6:03. I’m totally weird.
Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear says
I still can’t understand how someone could eat the skin of kiwi, it’s so… furry! 😀
I think my biggest quirk is reading in shower and sauna, many have been wondering about that but I have a GREAT tehnique and my books almost never gets wet 😀

Kath,
Could you do a tutorial on Tempeh. A week or so ago when I was flying back East, I tried to make one of those tempeh sandwiches that you always do and I could NOT handle the taste of it. Are there some kinds that are better than other to buy depending on what you’re using it for (sandwich, stirfrying, baking, etc.)?
Thanks!
Bri

A tutorial on flavors? I use Lightlife brand. If you didn’t like it, just keep trying it? I’ve never had other brands.

1 – I eat the skins too, but I like to slice mine or I just make a big ol’ mess (same with peaches)
2 – Ditto on this one too – shampoo, conditioner, soap, shave
3 – Brad started this but we make this noise at each other and sometimes in response to questions that sounds something between a “no”, “yeah”, and a growl. It took me forever to figure out that he wasn’t telling me no all the time when we first started dating (and he still makes fun of me for this). We pretty much just have our own language. 🙂
