This morning’s race was great (met many-a-blog readers, a handful of friends and tons of enthusiastic customers, new and old!).
We left the race and returned to the bakery to find it slammed busy, so Matt and I stayed there until 1pm helping out. Larbs and Matt met us at the end of a run, and we all walked home. By the end of the walk + being on my feet all day, my legs felt like I had run 10 miles myself! I’d also only had my breakfast toast plus a bite of Savannah bar to tide me over, so I was starving for lunch! Swigged some juice before my shower so I could make it to Beer Run on foot again!
And then we proceeded to order way too much food!
Beers for all!
And I do mean all! Matt surprised me by ordering a non-alcoholic beer for the table to try. As a bunch of beer-heads, we concluded it was pretty good!
Fun because it’s non-alcoholic, I had a tiny glass and thought it tasted a bit like a Moosehead (the USA version).
[Disclaimer: women should err on the side of caution and not drink alcoholic beers while pregnant!]
So back to the food – Larbs and I shared two sandwiches, one goat cheese and apple (our favorite) and the other a moz-tom-pest panini.
Plus potato wedges!
AND a salad!
Lucky for my stomach, I didn’t eat nearly all of it. I passed half my full sandwich on to Matt and we shared the salad and the men consumed most of the potatoes. We shared a ton between the four of us!
Back at home now and we’re all happy for a much-needed rest. I need to get my feet above my heart!

Hmmmm…. seems to me you disagreed with this statement on BERF a while ago, and were claiming it was okay for first trimester women to sip on some drinks (it ISN’T by the way. NOT AT ALL).
KathEats says
Not what I implied at all. And this may or may not reflect my personal beliefs, but I felt responsible to include it to avoid confusion (even though this beer had no alcohol!)
Nikki says
FYI, non-alcoholic beer does in fact have alcohol (0.5-1.0% usually). May seem like a small amount to you, but the fetus (and a newborn) lacks the enzymes to break down alcohol, which keeps thealcohol circulating In the baby longer than it does in you. It’s definitely a personal decision, but your readers should know it’s not actually non-alcoholic.
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Oh my gosh…that lunch is just what I crave right now! What were on the potatoes? They looked so yummy! Perfect lunch out in my books!
mary @ minutespermile says
That looks delicious! I would happily trade beer for a ton of cheese any day. But really I would prefer to have them both at hand.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
sounds like a fun day! and those potato wedges look sooooo good!
Natasha says
Even non-alcoholic beer should be avoided by pregnant women as It still contains alcohol – just a lower level than actual beer. Most people don’t realize this, as the claim “non-alcoholic” gives the impression that it is alcohol-free. As it is so unclear as to how much and when alcohol can affect a baby, the best thing to do is avoid all alcohol (even the small amounts in non-alcoholic beer).
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
YUMMY!! Holy cow–everything looks sooooo good!
Molly @ RDexposed says
That lunch looks incredibly good. I love apple on sandwiches!
Karla says
I see you had goat cheese and a while ago I remember you having smoked salmon. I’m also pregnant and sadly, avoiding those foods because of what I’ve read. Do you have other info? (please tell me you do! 🙂
KathEats says
You can have any cheese that is pasteurized (most are) and smoked salmon if you steam it first (which isn’t ideal but still tastes OK)
Allison k says
My understanding is that soft cheeses are only “bad” if they have not been pasteurized. It is also my understanding that restaurants rarely serve unpasteurized goat cheese. Also most stores only sell pasteurized as well. But…I am a pregnant girl who has been eating sandwich meat and not always heating to steaming. I am also not avoiding frozen yogurt.
Sam says
It’s close to impossible to get unpasteurized cheese in the US at grocery stores or restaurants.
Cait's Plate says
All of that food looks so incredibly good. Glad you’re getting some good family time!
Sarah says
I’m wondering what the dip was that came with the potato wedges. It almost looks like peanut butter??
KathEats says
It was a chipotle mayo
donna says
I don’t think you and your sister look alike at all, but the 2 Matt’s, gee, they look like twins!

Hi Kath:
I stopped by the bakery for a late lunch today (around 2 p.m.) while on my way to Monticello and found your staff to be super friendly and nice! I used to live in Vienna, VA and loved the GH bakery there. I wish there were one in D.C…. I was thrilled to take home a couple of loaves for my family.
Have fun with your sister.
KathEats says
