Good morning to you! I’m blogging from my desk in the basement, which has been neglected since about April. I ditched the basement for a workspace upstairs at our dining room table on my laptop. But my nesting instinct is over the cluttered look up there despite how convenient it is, so I’m moving back down for a bit. The view is pretty nice from here! I also think the basement is going to become baby central (TV, room for toys, more baby proofed) so I think it’s a good habit to get back into : )
Cereal for breakfast!
There were four types of fruit in this bowl, so I was thinking it reminded me of fruit salad, although…I think fruit “soup” is more appropriate given that the fruit was swimming in milk! Topped off with Erewhon Raisin Bran.
Hot tea for a change!
PSA of the Day
OpenSky is having a big Julyfest at the moment – $10 credit (that’s like a coupon!) and FREE shipping for all members (and members who join today) through midnight tonight. Picnic Table In A Bag just went live in my shop 20% off this morning, and a protein powder made certified organic, grass-fed, sustainable whey is now available – called Tera’s Whey. I picked up some from Whole Foods when the only veggies I could eat were in liquid form earlier in my pregnancy and loved the Bourbon Vanilla flavor – and of course the whey it’s made : ) This also makes the “I Eat Real Food” shirt only 20 bucks! Christmas in July!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I absolutely love that purple bowl! Purple is my favorite color and it really makes your picture pop this morning! 🙂 Fruit is so good for breakfast. I love it.
Rachel Farge-Mills says
I would love to get the purple bowl and the light teal mug you posted yesterday I think for breakfast. Will you sell them on opensky? I just ordered the 4 pack garlic nuggets on open sky and hope we like it. Been meaning to ask if you think grapenuts is a healthy enough topping crunchy on the oatmeal. Thanks.
KathEats says
The purple bowl was a gift, and I believe it’s a chain store like Pier 1. The teal mug was a former OpenSky product that is no longer available 🙁
Rachel Farge-Mills says
That’s too bad. What do you think about grapenuts cereal?
KathEats says
Thumbs up!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
I ran out of my favorite cereal yesterday (Oatmeal Squares) and am going through withdrawals!
Never heard of open sky before – checking out now 🙂
KathEats says
It’s kind of like Groupon for products – lots of neat stuff at a discount and lots of celebrities/personalities to check out!
Khushboo Thadani says
I love pairing tea with smoothies- one sip hot, another sip cold :)!
Ashley @ Coffee, Cake and Cardio says
I totally agree!
Sarah says
Hi Kath
This has nothing to do with this post, but I was wondering about your thoughts about baking with stevia? The sugar mass has to be replaced with something else, so does it make sense from a calorie/nutritional point of view?
KathEats says
I’d try Stevia in the raw, which I think is better for baking. Or just real sugar and have a small portion of whatever it is 🙂
Katie says
I often feel like my oatmeal and yogurt is a “fruit salad” because I have a hard time just choosing one or two fruits to use at a time. Especially during spring and summer when there are too many yummy fresh fruits to choose from. I was checking out OpenSky this morning and saw that picnic table. What kind of Vitamix do you have or recommend?
KathEats says
I’m not exactly sure of the model I have, but the Pro Series 200 (the least expensive) looks like mine: http://www.vitamix.com/professionalseries/start/compare.asp
Katie says
Thanks for the response Kath. I have been debating buying one for awhile and I know I will use it a lot so I’m treating myself to a birthday present. I’m just deciding if I should splurge for the most expensive model and if it is worth it. Are you happy with yours? Anyone else have any opinions to share?
KathEats says
I’d just get the base model – unless you’re opening a smoothie shop! Yes, it’s wonderful. From the cleaning power to the blending power.
Katie says
I would love to open a smoothie shop or a bakery/cafe. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long, so I’m excited to use it. Lots of smoothies, peanut butter, pesto, guacamole, salsa in the future. Does yours grind grains?
KathEats says
It does, but I haven’t used it for that (that I can recall)
Chris says
You need to buy the dry container to use it for grinding grains 🙂 It is a separate piece from the regular container. I have both.
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
It does grind grains–but they really recommend getting the dry container to do that, because the other container will end up scratching easily. It also does it more efficiently!
Elisabeth says
I just got mine in the mail 2 days ago! I finally bit the bullet after wanting one for a couple of years. I already love it! So far I’ve only made smoothies, but it’s definitely a keeper. I’m hoping to do soups and nut butters soon. For reference, I bought the Creations GC model.
Katie says
Thanks for all the info and advice. I know it will be put to good use so I am thinking I might as well get everything at once. Thanks again for the responses.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I have to thank you for introducing me to Open Sky. I buy my protein powder there everytime they have free shipping or a member credit. It makes it so much more affordable!
KathEats says
Glad!!

KathEats says
Me too 🙁
Megan @ Megan's Munchies says
I wish I had a basement to retreat to…that doesn’t really occur in Texas. Not many basements in this area!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says

Love the K mug! I got a G mug like that for my wedding. And you always have the prettiest napkins/table mats, I need to get myself some.
Nancy~The Wife of a Dairyman says
I love that you have an entire basement space for your office/soon to be baby play area/ hang out area! So envious! Have a great day, Kath 🙂
Rachel says
yum! all that fruit looks so good 🙂 we ran out today so I have to go to the store after work to pick up some because I’m having withdrawals haha
Andrea @FrSeed2Stomach says
KATH – I started to have SIABs for my late dinners after work/school and LOVE my new routine. I can’t believe I didn’t try one sooner. Banana + Ice + Nut Butter + Hemp powder + Nut Milk. Vitamix. Pour into bowl and add brown rice crisps, Cvill clusters, coconut butter, fresh berries… SO freaking delicious and nutritious and such a great light and easy to digest meal for my post 8pm dinners! THANK YOU for the inspiration! 🙂
KathEats says
🙂
laura says
i love opensky, but dont like how there’s a minimum purchase requirement in order to use the credit 🙁
KathEats says
oh bummer, didn’t know that
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Fresh fruit is the best in the summer! I just stopped at the farmers market while walking to work for some blueberries and cherries! It’s become a thursday morning tradition!
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
I just decided to buy the 4 pack of prints! Can’t wait to buy some frames and get them up on the wall 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Open Sky and the $10 credit is so tempting but my wallet is so unhappy as I’m trying to save money for my next adventure… 🙁
Kimberly says
I have always wanted to order something from opensky. Do you have any suggestions something that I should try for when I make my first purchase?
KathEats says
My favorite products right now are the Buddha Bowls, the Victory Garden prints, Hungry Bars and Garlic Gold!
Cait's Plate says
Oh man and I thought adding peaches and strawberries in my yogurt bowl this morning was loading up with fruit! Four kinds definitely wins!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I always load up my breakfasts with fruit too, especially in the summer when there are so many good ones in season. I just bought some peaches from the farmer’s market this morning and I can’t wait to top my oatmeal with them tomorrow!
Jessica @ New Girl, New City says
YUM! That is MY kind of breakfast!
Tracy says
I love Tera’s Whey but rarely buy it because of the price. I was excited to get the email about my $10 credit and free shipping! It was almost half price for 2 (vanilla & choc) compared to Whole Foods price. Yeah!
KathEats says
Yay!
Kristin says
Wow, that looks incredible! I love that you included Erewhon Raisin Bran on top. I bet if you put oatmeal in it, that would make it even more delicious. I hope you enjoyed it!
Sydney says
Thank you for the heads up about OpenSky’s credit and free shipping! I bought a blue buddha bowl and am finally trying Wild Squirrel nut butters 🙂
KathEats says
Fun!! I didn’t realize the Wild Squirrels were still there!?
Sydney says
Yes, the 4-flavor variety pack was still available!
KathEats says
I found it!! It was hidden for me 🙂 Glad you got some!

I do the same thing, and my mom always asks, “do you want some cereal with your milk?”
