Brrrrr. We’ve had several frosts already, but I sure noticed this one!
It’s weird though how much warmer November is compared to the frosts of January/February. It’s still the kind of cold I can tolerate. February, not so fun.
This smiling face was looking up at me at 3am last night. He really really wanted to play. I really really wanted to sleep. So we played for 3 minutes, then we worked on sleep.
Freeeeeench toast!!
On Cinnamon Swirl bread. Topped with banana and sunflower butter.
I have to confess, I ate another slice of bread straight from the loaf – but only the cinnamony bun-like inside goo!!
I had a fun morning out planned – our Lululemon store here in Cville celebrated its first birthday with a series of mini workouts. You could choose between two tracks that each explored fitness around town. I chose one with yoga and Pilates (and a bootcamp workout that I had to skip due to nursing schedule).
I walked M over to Karen’s house to hang out while I went. Timing nursing was a bit of a challenge, but I topped him off right before I left and hoped for the best. Luckily all went well. He’s going longer between feedings these days (3-3.5 hours) so that makes it easier.
Check out this loaded up stroller!! I felt like I was carting my whole house around.
My workout started with a mile walk to Karen’s, then a walk to Lulu, then 20 minutes of power flow yoga (YES!) I generally feel like my body is in the same shape it was pre-pregnancy, but these sun salutations showed me big time how out of shape I am. Chataranga has never been hard until now! I’m definitely going to be sore in my upper body tomorrow. I also hear there is a vinyasa studio coming to CVille (YESSS!!!) this winter and I absolutely can’t wait to get some more yoga in my life.
When yoga was over, we walked to our next stop: Tru Pilates
I walk by this building everyday, but I’d never been inside. What a gorgeous space!!
We did a 20 minute mat workout. Yes, my core is killing me now!
Back at Lulu, there was this BE-U-TI-FUL carrot cake birthday cake, but since it was before noon and I had a baby on my mind, I actually left before it was cut. Sadness.
But when I got back to Karen’s, I found him pretty happy!! We think he is SO close to laughing!
He was also super preppy baby today in his Gap sweater. It makes him look like a big round pumpkin!
I fed him and then walked to the bakery to visit Matt and have lunch.
Matt made us salads topped with Great Harvest sandwich ingredients: tuna salad, hummus, pimento cheese/chutney and chicken salad plus green pepper, tomato, olives and pickle.
Plus veggies and a slice of Cville Crunch with melted cheese on the side.
Followed by the inevitable: a few dessert samples off the bread board. I can’t help myself!
Our lobby is dressed for the holidays, and we’re entering our second busiest week of the year. We have TWO kinds of pie this year – Toffee Sweet Potato and Chocolate Pecan – and dinner roll orders are already out the wazoo.
I walked M home (he slept) and got a little work done on the computer while he continued to sleep.
Afternoon snack was a mix of yogurt, pumpkin, honey bunches cereal and trail mix
Matt came home around 5 and after feeding M, we walked about a mile in the dark to Moto Pho Co. for dinner. We wanted a dinner out that wasn’t too expensive or too rich, and this place is a great spot for both.
Baby sure loves his stroller! He slept the whole time. I think I walked about 5 miles today with him and he slept for most of them.
Just like last time, we got the spring rolls to start. I LOVE these!
Shrimp inside..love the mint too!
But the peanut sauce is good enough to lick the pot clean. {And I did.}
I ordered the vegetarian tofu pho because last time it was by far the best.
Matt ordered the Ox Tail pho. I read on Mas to Millers that the owners recently changed the beef recipe and we did think it was MUCH improved from our first experience. We couldn’t decide whose was better!
All hail to sriracha!
On our walk home, we passed Sweet Frog and stopped in for this candy bar explosion. Matt and I shared it. I sure love toppings, but I just don’t like frozen yogurt anymore. I don’t really know why!
Tomorrow {Sunday} Matt and I have NO plans for the first time in a number of weeks. Can’t wait to sleep in…if the baby lets us!

Is there a stream/river of some sort behind your house? Your yard is so beautiful!

No you probably just see a road : )

That salad looks mar-va-lous! I think that will be my new thing going to like Subways or Whole Foods. While the kids gets sandwiches, I will get the sandwich but as a salad and just have a slice of bread at home. Took my nephew on a trip to Whole Foods and he loved it. Makes him want to eat healthier as well.

I’m in DC now and way too cold. Dunno if I could handle that Feb frost anymore!!!

It is going to make you day/week/month when he truly laughs for the first time. My daughter had been squealing for a while but she just recently let out a legit laugh and it warmed my heart.

I love the cinnamon swirl bread!
My boyfriend and I moved to Vermont in August, and a few weeks ago stopped in at the Great Harvest in Burlington. After each trying a sample of the cinnamon swirl bread, we knew we had to pick up a loaf, and finished it in just a few days. Yum!

He looks so cute in that stripey sweater!

All the food you just showed in this post has my mouth watering!! It’s also nice that M loves the stroller. I’m hoping my baby will too!!

I’ve never had pho…I’m still getting over the fact that it’s pronounced “fuh.” But it looks amazing! I wonder if there’s somewhere I can try it in St. Louis.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
That’s so cool that they did those events for their birthday! I’ve never been to a pilates class but I’ve always wanted to try it out, it sounds tough!
Rene says
You seriously have the cutest baby ever! His huge smiles crack me up, each and every time. I recently discovered your blog, but love it. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Justeen says
I feel the same way about froyo! I use to be crazy about it, and it’s still fun to have once in a while, but its ICE CREAM all the way for me!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Everything about this post is fabulous! The gorgeous pilates space, the 20 min core workout on the mat 🙂 The spring rolls and peanut sauce, the banana and sunflower butter on top the French toast, eating only the cinnamony gooey part of bread 🙂 And adorable Mazen and that he’s almost laughing! Great post, Kath!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
You are so lucky to have such a good baby! I don’t remember my kids being that good. Maybe because I was always on edge when we took them out. I was so worried they’d cry. Your loaded stroller cracks me up. That is the story of my life. It only gets a little better as they get older. The items just change 🙂
Sandi says
Love how you are always mixing up your workout routines 🙂
Thanks for inspiring me to figure out what to prepare for breakfast – French toast!

Mazen’s little button nose just kills me!

What a fun day– so jealous of your Lulu!! Although it’s probably better that I don’t have one nearby– wayyyy too tempting. 🙂
Hope you got to sleep in this morning!

Your stroller cracks me up. I totally feel like a bag lady going out, with things dangling and stuffed all over. That’s my one beef with the BOB, the storage underneath is so small!
Where’s the new vinyasa studio going to be? I’ll probably resume Bikram but Kevin likes hot flow!
(I am already SO scared to resume anything harder than walking!)
KathEats says
On West Main near Eloise. I think opening this winter!

Some of my tastes changed inexplicably postpartum. Do you think that’s it? Suddenly I drink white wine 90% of the time when it used to be the other way around. And I’m not as crazy for chocolate. Who am I?!
KathEats says
I have no idea if it’s pregnancy related…it could also be that I just don’t like Sweet Frog anymore. I need to try another kind of yogurt. Although I wasn’t too find of Arch’s when I had it last either…

I’ve been following you since the beginning and I just have to say how much I love your once-a-day posting style that you’ve been doing since having Mazen. Your posts have always been awesome but now I love how long they are and I can really get a sense of your whole day and life style. I especially love it now that it is easy so “catch up” on what’s happening on KERF when I travel. We often are in countries without easy internet access and I have to wait till I come home to read your posts I miss. Last week, I was in Iceland (to see the Northern lights) and your site was the first I checked out when I got home! Thanks for all the effort you put into your fantastic blog!!!
KathEats says
Thanks for reading! I love this format too : )

I agree! I love the one post format! So many things and so many goodies to read about/look at!
coco says
I agree too! especially to learn how your day is with a baby! 🙂

I love your blog and read often but why would you “confess” to another slice of bread? You make it sound like a bad thing when you only had 1 slice to begin with.
KathEats says
Just saying because I ate it standing up at the kitchen counter compulsively. I don’t think we need to be afraid of admitting when eating it’s “perfect.”
Laurie says
Your days seem so wonderful!!! I thought you were going to say your lululemon was having a big sale…LOL…I just had toasted Great Harvest Woodstock bread for breakfast…the best!!
Eileen says
Mazen is chunking up and looking soooooo adorable! I love the picture of him with the little knit cap. Baby laughs are the BEST!
Meagan says
Mazen is getting cuter every day! I love the photo of him with his mouth open/smiling! That yoga studio looks amazing! I hope you get to go more often, that would be awesome! Cville sounds like such a cool place. I’ve never been!
Stefanie @ Thin Vegetarian says
What an active day! Sounds like you had a lot of fun.
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
The Tofu Pho looks soooo good! My son wants to try tofu…this sounds like a yummy option! 🙂
Katy says
It looks like you are using the BOB a lot more than your other strollers these days. In the early days of Mazen you said that you needed all three strollers and could see the purpose of each. Do you still feel that way, or now that you are more comfortable with the BOB (and more “experienced” in mommyhood) have your stroller opinions changed?
Thanks!
KathEats says
It’s hard to say. We ended up buying the car seat adapter for the BOB after all and that has meant that we no longer use the Bugaboo. The BOB is just SO much better for walking. I kind of feel like you need two strollers: one for walking, running, long distance and one for travel/car use/shopping/short distance. So far the BOB and the snap and go have fit the bill. Had we had just the BOB, we would have gotten the car seat adapter from the start and would probably have been fine with just the two strollers. Once M outgrows his car seat though (or just gets more uncomfortable) we will need to buy a third stroller for the car (likely an umbrella). And we may use the Bugaboo again if we need a smaller stroller with a kid seat, but I can’t really think of an occasion where we would not take the BOB>
Maria says
I feel like the frozen yogurt trend is slowly dying off. More often do I find myself opting for a small scoop of real ice cream at Baskin Robbins (Salted Caramel – amazing) when I want a frozen treat. It’s just more satisfying and tastes more “real”.
Emily says
I found your blog 2 years ago, when I was doing an internet search for a recipe for kale chips, and have been reading ever since. Every Sunday I cook up a batch of steel cut oats and portion it into individual servings for the week, so I can just grab one and go. I was getting into a serious oatmeal rut until I came across your recipe for baked pumpkin oatmeal. Well, I just made some, and all I can say is…I can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow! I didn’t have any cow’s milk on hand, so I made it with Almond Breeze almond milk/coconut milk blend. It turned out delicious! Thanks for a great recipe and great blog too 🙂

I love that you combine outing with Maze and some fitness without in your neighbor. how do you find those events?
if I had a bread store, I think I won’t be able to restrain myself to eat them all!!! your will power is admirable!
Maze looks like a big boy in that gap sweater.
Laura says
That is amazing that Maze is going 3-3.5 hours between feedings! It really is so incredible how differently babies develop. My daughter is 8.5 months and can maybe go 3 hours between feedings, but despite being premature, she started crawling early and is super vocal. Seems like you and Maze got it going on! Keep it up, mama 🙂
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
yeah, I definitely feel good post baby but ugh, whenever I do yoga (or Jillian’s Shred) I feel like my core is completely screwed. I know it takes a while for the ab muscles to come back together so I’m being patient. After my last pregnancy it took six months for them to come back together fully and looks like it might take that long this time too….Still working them, but know I won’t get to full strength until then.
mary @ minutespermile says
i’m really concerned about the not liking froyo announcement! that is a serious shame! 😉

I love the word plays on pho. I have one in my old town called Pho King Good.

I like that one even more!

I just caught up on a few days of posts and I must say I am so impressed with your culinary adventures! Greek one day and pho the next. I am pregnant and have lost interest in going out to restaurants or eating exciting foods. You give me hope that my palette will return. 😉 And maybe your palette has changed a bit? Since the Greek spanikopita and the pho broth both have onions in them!
KathEats says
Not to be indelicate, but I tasted that Greek food all afternoon. As good as it was on the spot, the onions sort of ruined the rest of my day!
Ray says
LOL I love your honesty. Hey at least you tried it. 😉

Kath,
I just had a big bowl of veggie + tofu pho today from a Vietnamese takeout restaurant and I was just wondering about how many calories do you think are in the dish?
