Who knew going to IKEA would take over our whole day!?
OK, OK, I’m sure many of you knew 🙂
Other than gasping with glee when I opened up organized drawers (I NEED an IKEA kitchen someday…)
…we were on the hunt for bakery furniture!
We considered this chair…
But think we’re going with this one instead! Along with a wooden top bistro table.
Considering this for the office
And a couple of these – painted mossy green – for the merchandise
Although these were cool!
In the midst of it all (2PM!) we got very hungry. Luckily Megan gave me a few 18 Rabbits bars (where she interned last summer) that I still had in my purse. Hunger avoided.
We picked out a few things for our household too! It’s too dark to photograph them now, but I’m happy to say we escaped only spending $60 (including 2 cutting boards for the bakery)
As we excited, we split a frozen yogurt cone! People always ask me if I ever just eat junk food for lunch and hide it from the blog. The answer> is I DO eat junk for lunch sometimes, but I would never hide it from the blog!
We ended up eating our REAL lunch at 6PM! So I guess we had ice cream for lunch and salads for dinner 🙂
Per usual, upon returning home from vacation we stopped into Whole Foods for groceries and with all the unpacking we had to do, cooking did not sound as fun as treating ourselves to a ready-made dinner. Fast food!
This was one of the BEST salad bar creations I’ve ever had! I think it was the base of steamed kale on the bottom instead of watery lettuce. Loved every bite!
Thanks to MOM and GRAM for giving me some of their fabulous antique linens! I have a ton of cute blog backdrops coming up!
The return of sparkling water!!
I spent tonight hanging with Karen, unpacking, and doing some cleaning projects. I haven’t done the Home Neat Home post on cleaning yet, but it’s coming. Soon. I promise!! I have a new miracle product to share.
Meghan@travelwinedine says
Looks like your mom and I share a b-day. Happy wishes to her! 🙂

OH Happy B-day!

My husband and I have the dark gray metal shelves in our kitchen!
What a fun day! I can only imagine how super exhausted you are after the adventures at Ikea! 🙂
Abby says
Those drawer organizers are awesome! I NEED that some day as well! 😉 That 18 Rabbits bar sounds yummy! 🙂

I can’t wait to find out what that new miracle product is!

I really like that ikea froyo =D glad you were able to enjoy it!!
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
That pink linen is very pretty!
Just a warning on all that dark furniture….dust shows badly as do fingerprints. I have lots of black furniture in my house and when the sun shines on it, watch out!
It’s very modern looking though:)
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i was kinda hoping to see some swedish meatballs in this post!
Sara @ myfancytuna.blogspot.com says
IKEA is magical! And I can’t wait to see all of your new table settings 🙂

We have the desk (black) that you’re contemplating and love it!
purchase a few clear desk pads (i believe they’re call PROJS – $5.99 /each) and carefully using an exacto knife, cut them so that they fit together and cover the surface of your desk. this way, the desk will be protected and can easily be wiped clean. we did this and it works fantastically!
we also purchased a few sets of drawers and doors to go in the shelf and they also work really well!
KathEats says
Glad to hear you like them!!
nevernotdreaming says
You eat so well Kath.
My “bedtime snack” is the same size or bigger than my meals…
Ally (Girl V Food) says
I had a granola bar for lunch today too! I was at a basketball game so I packed a Clif bar and an apple. It held me over until around 6 as well!
staceyhealthylife says
Whole foods salad bar is my go to fast food 🙂 meal of choice. For a while I was seriously addicted to the salad bar, it was a weekly obsession.
Heather (heathers dish) says
I heart Ikea…I can’t wait for the one in Denver to open!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Nothing wrong with some ice cream for lunch!! 🙂
Morgan @ moments of mmm says
First of all, you look super adorable in the ice cream pics. You kinda make me want to cut my hair! Second, I was just contemplating WF for dinner… weird! (it’s only 6:40 in the desert!) I think I might just HAVE to go now after seeing your beautiful creation!
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
I find the Ikea frozen yogurt too sweet. I much prefer the cinnamon buns!
Lesley Lifting Life says
I’m not cool enough to have stepped foot in an Ikea 😉 … but I love all their stuff online, and hope an Ikea will decide to come to Kansas City some day!
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
I love IKEA and whole foods, and lucky you got it all in one day! I miss America…
Alyssa says
Glad to see someone else fills their Whole Foods box up with as much salad stuff as I do!
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Haaaa I could’ve told you to block off some quality time for Ikea… there is just always SO MUCH to look at!!!! Sounds like you guys know what you are looking for, though 🙂 Always a good thing.
Valerie @ City|Life|Eats says
I love steamed kale as a base for a salad creation. Your trip to Ikea sounds like fun 🙂

LOL and I love that you keep it real 🙂
That pink tablecloth linen is sooo pretty!
and Ikea IS a full day’s work.. Even if you know what you want, it still takes….forever! to get in and out of there. At least you’re not doing it with a small child in hand 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmmmm I love Ikea! And salads for dinner! and froyo! Perfect day fo sho! 🙂

Those wicker chairs are super cute, but don’t last long. I had them in an old apartment and they fell apart after about a year or two. Go wood!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I could spend hours and hours in Ikea! Definitely one of my favorite stores 🙂
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
I eat junk food for lunch all the time! 🙂
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
IKEA is so amazing! I’ve actually never been IN one, but “window shop” online all the time. I definitely had a couple orders from there when I moved into my apartment!
Haha, love the “junk food” comment! Moderation is key, and we all deserve a frozen yogurt after an intense shopping trip. 🙂
Lauren @chigallauren says
IKEA is just dangerous!
Kristen, Sweetly says
I like the second chair much better. Mmm, and that office desk unit makes me swoon.
Happy Birthday KERF Mama!
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
I love the shade of pink of the 18 Rabbits bar! Your salad looks amazing! 😀 Did you add a dressing to it?
KathEats says
No, I don’t really like salad dressings
Candice says
I just got an IKEA kitchen . . . and the pull out drawers and lazy susans are amazing. They were also great to work with – easy ordering and great installation. Highly recommended. A nice kitchen makes me very happy 🙂
Alaina says
Ikea is just so overwhelming sometimes! I love looking through the “square foot homes”. My husband gets ideas on how we can live in a small space. 🙂 Hmm..although 400 sq. feet is a bit too small for me.
Does Great Harvest give you a fund to buy furniture for the bakery or is it out of your own pocket?
KathEats says
Everything about this bakery is out of our own pocket (including a loan too). We pay GH for their help!
Ashley @ Feeding Ashley says
I’ve never been to an IKEA. Looks like you had fun though, and the furniture is gorgeous. I can’t wait for the Home Neat Home post!
Carin says
I used to live near to an Ikea in the UK and LOVED going there – although it amazes me that even if you’re just going for a look around, you end up spending 60 pounds – the same is true for $, obviously!!
No Ikea in NZ (sigh) so I haven’t been inside one for 6 years. 🙁
the intern says
the thing about ikea furniture is that it does not last at all!!! bottoms fall out of drawers, shelves cave under the slightest load, and chairs fall apart… its cheap for a reason. Just a forewarning, you may be upgrading within 18 months.
Lauren @ MRS says
That does seem like a better pick for a bakery chair, the one above seem a little less sturdy, stylish but it might not survive the wear and tear of everday use.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I have yet to try IKEA!! I always hear everyone raving about it, and I have no doubt that it’s incredible~
Hannah says
My housemate has been obsessed with IKEA for most of her life, but I’ve never been! I kinda just want to go to get Daim bars…
Nancy~The Wife of a Dairyman says
LOVE the linens! How great that your mom and gram handed them down to you:)
Khushboo says
Haha hilarious about someone asking you whether u eat junk and hide it from the blog! Some people just don’t get that healthy food can give u the same pleasure as a chocolate bar (that being said, I do love my chocolate)! Y’day my aunt goes to me: ‘what if you meet a guy who only eats good food’ (implying that my food tastes crap because it’s healthy?)! After groaning in my head, I attempted to explain how satisfying a salad with salmon and avocado is!…don’t think she was convinced 🙂
Ashley says
I’ll let you know how the IKEA kitchen goes…putting together ALL of the cabinets does not sound fun…and our kitchen is pretty small!
Emily says
Glad to see that the bakery furniture situation is coming right along! I actually tried my first 18 Rabbits bar today! It was the Banana Foster bar, I think. I had high hopes for it but was a little unimpressed. Love the packaging though! Maybe I’ll have to try that fig and cherries one…
Marina says
Ikea sounds really great, I hope to get in one this summer. I like the second chairs better!
Miranda @ Conquering College... One Bite at a Time says

Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
Ok, I’m now making it so that we have a mandatory trip to IKEA this weekend! This never-having-been thing is going on too long 😉
Glad you made it home safely!
Can’t wait to see the new cleaner! And the new furniture too 🙂
Ice cream is a fun lunch to have, hehe. Sometimes when I’m feeling the urge, I stop by a fast food place and get a small fry. It only happens about once a month and it’s my little treat to myself 😀
Lauren at Keep It Sweet says
It is impossible to get out of IKEA in a short amount of time!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I’ve never been to Ikea. I’d probably lose all my senses! 🙂
I so wish we had a Whole Foods nearby. 🙁

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I love Ikea! I can never walk out of there empty handed. 😛
Nicole (the other one) says
I have two of those desks (with the bigger bookcase attached) and I love them! They are my second most favorite piece of furniture in the house 🙂 We thought we had a ton of books, but the shelves hold so many I’m only taking up 5 of the 12 cubbies.
Lee says
Ikea frozen yogurt is so good.
Elizabeth@The Sweet Life says
Really fun furniture options!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
Definitely don’t get those metal bookcases from IKEA. I have them and they suck.

I love the antique linen there is so pretty! I love pink!! I can’t wait to see the other ones!!
I am glad you guys found some stuff you like at Ikea! I also like the ice cream for lunch !
Have a great day! xoxo

Hmm…now if only I could just do the ice cream for lunch instead of on TOP of lunch 😉
Do you wear make-up – those pics of you are beautiful!
Sable@SquatLikeALady says
Miracle cleaning product?! I NEED one of those. And a fairy godmother while we’re at it 😉
I love Ikea! I have never escaped from there out less than $100 though haha!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I love Ikea, although it can get a little overwhelming at times! Love all the stuff y’all picked out! Your salad looks delicious and super healthy btw!
Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete says
I love going to Ikea — I could spend all day there!
My sister has a bunch of those wooden shelves (that you want to paint green) — she loves them. They are super sturdy and weren’t a pain to put together.
klm says
I am loving the new hair cut and cant wait to hear about the miracle product!
Nikki says
I know I’m way behind, but I LOVE your hair that length! So cute!
Eileen says
I STRONGLY recommend you get something more sturdy than Ikea furniture for the bakery. That is not industrial strength furniture, which you will need. You can check out auctions for second hand shelving from shops that have closed etc, it will be much stronger and last you longer than anything from Ikea, which is all particle board that bends with weight and over time.
Camille says
I have that first Ikea desk and I love it!
missy says
Love your furniture choices. I think the 2nd chair will hold up better too. I can’t wait to see the finished product! 🙂
Stacey says
i just took two identical pics the other day while eating an ice cream cone too. Only one made it on my blog though! I love Ikea, I was so excited to be near one when i moved back up north. There is nothing wrong with a little ice cream for lunch now and again.
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
IKEA is definitely an all-day thing. My mom and I went there and spent 6 hours there! It was pretty ridiculous!
Jean says
Shopping is always exciting…and Ikea is always inspiring. Take it from a really old and experienced grandma…select the sold wood, plastic, whatever for chairs, tables, shelves. The wicker, rattan and other open materials look great…but are impossible to clean after a while. Think about how things will look after five years…not how they look when they’re new;-)
Hakkie says
I am always supriced that all ikea’s worth wide are the seem.
I am Dutch but live in France; I have also looked at that chair!
ashley says
I also have the dark gray metal shelves in my bathroom, and I can say they are VERY sturdy! I have the wooden shelf in my laundry room, and it is NOT as sturdy!
Nancy says
I love IKEA 🙂
I’d caution you against those bookcases though — I’ve known several people who’ve had them, and they’ve always fallen apart. They aren’t sturdy at all in the long run. (that said, I have other solid-sided IKEA bookcases that have been excellent for years and years — just not those open sided/backed ones)
Amy says
I love IKEA! We have those black chairs at work and although neat looking, they’re fairly uncomfortable because of how upright the back is. Also, the legs bend out really easily. We’ve had to throw out a lot of them because the legs bend out under weight (and it doesn’t have to be a lot of weight, just from plopping down in them).
