It’s time for another round of everyones favorite game show — Friday Favorites! (Imagine me doing jazz hands.) I love sharing this and that – these are some of my favorite posts to write!
Jamming out to….this song! It’s country. Are you surprised? And who is excited that Nashville is coming back on CMT?!! The two-hour premiere is on January 5. Even if you don’t love country music, it’s a great show!
Coveting…this candle! I saw it in a magazine and it’s on my Christmas list. We all need candles that look pretty and smell good.
Lathering…. up this shave cream! I’ve been doing Dollar Shave Club for a while (the executive blades are worth the extra cost). I don’t really need a new blade every week, but the every-other-month frequency has been great. That means a new blade every 2 weeks. I’m embarrassed to say that’s a big step up with how long I used to use razor blades! ANYways, I tried their shave butter when I first joined and didn’t love it, but THIS Shave Lather is really great! It’s thicker like a real shave cream, and the best part is the pepperminty smell 🙂
Listening to...John from Young House Love recommended this podcast episode as his “We’re Digging” a few weeks ago. I gave it a listen, and loved the mystery. It’s about a boy in a photo taken a few decades ago that became famous on an internet message board for a bunch of random reasons. The podcast episode is kind of like Serial Season 1 over again where the journalists did some digging, and went to the scene to find out more. I’ve also been listening to the Dave Ramsey Show podcast, and enjoying his advice (although his straight-shooting ruffles my feathers at times and makes me laugh at others!)

Wearing…Tommie Copper compression sleeves.
I’ve played double soccer every Sunday throughout the fall, and by Sunday night I literally couldn’t walk – only limp – around my house. My left foot gives me tons of aches and pains if I spend a lot of time on it. I’ve been icing it first, and then using these Tommie Copper compression sleeves. The extra support has been great to have when I hobble around my house. The sleeves are made from – you guessed it – copper. The fabric, called Copper Znergy®, has copper and zinc encapsulated inside to kill odor-causing microbes while providing great support and compression to reduce pain and swelling. It’s also 4D stretching, anti-odor, and moisture wicking. I honestly need all the support I can get on that foot anytime I have spent a day on my feet, and wearing this sleeve has been a great help.

Laughing at….this commercial. So cute!!
Blinging…this statement bracelet I found super on sale at H&M. I would have paid 5x as much for something like this at other stores, so I was happy to have stumbled upon it at the checkout counter when I went in looking for tights.
Reading….I finished The Nightingale. LOVED IT. Such a great, heart-wrenching book. Has anyone read any more of Kristin Hannah’s books to recommend another one for me? I just started this new book – Grand Prismatic – the debut novel of blog reader Ashlee Wetherington. It’s a new age romance, and so far I love it. It’s only $2.99 on Amazon Kindle, so show Ashlee some love and give it a read!
Geeking out over…..packing videos! So one day I searched You Tube for “packing cubes” and then spent the next hour mesmerized by other people’s packing videos. I don’t know why it fascinates me so much, but I was totally enthralled by how people organize their clothes, toiletries, make up, and carry on bags. When I was in Target the following week I found a really pretty set of packing cubes in my cart. I can’t wait to test them out!
Shopping for….Mazen’s new shoes! I was on the market for lace-less boat shoes and velcro running shoes, and these were the best balance of color and price. They are these and these. Cute! Zappos FTW.
Happy December!

Hey Katy! A while ago you mentioned you had purchased an st home gel nail kit. I want to add one to my Christmas list-would you recommend the one you have, and if so could you tell me which it is!? There are lots to choose from, but I want one that works! Thanks!
KathEats says
I have a post coming on gel nails next week! But since Christmas shopping is tight, this is the LED light I bought along with the OPI base and top coats and two colors. That light was less expensive when I got it, so you might just want to shop around for another LED light like this one.
Courtney says
Awesome, thanks!!

I love a good manicure but have been wary of the gel ones because of this.

KathEats says
This article is a little bit older, but it said they were safe and low risk. Good to consider this though. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.
Courtney says
Kath! Darn autocorrect! Sorry

So excited for Nashville to come back! I was so happy when CMT picked up the show.
Have a great weekend!
PS I need to try the dollar shave club, I am terrible at remembering to buy razors.

Hi Kath,
I’m a regular reader and today saw more ads on your page than ever before. It was practically more ad content than blog content. I don’t mind the stuff on the sides but it was mixed in with your content as well. I find this very distracting and several of them were videos too. I’m not sure if you have any control over this but it would be appreciated if you could somehow reign in the random ads. It’s hard to enjoy reading when there are several Walmart video ads playing at the same time….
KathEats says
OK thanks for the feedback. My ad manager is testing a few new things.
Tracy says
The ads on the mobile site are especially annoying. I sometimes can’t scroll without hitting an ad, causing another page to open up. It’s incredibly frustrating.
Sally says
Do you think that compression sleeve would be good for ankle pain? I have an old injury that sometimes flares up and leaves me hobbling too!
LOVED The Nightengale. I never wanted it to end. I’ve read a couple of her other books, but none are quite as good unfortunately.
KathEats says
Yes, I think the extra support would be helpful
Eileen says
You’re going to Paris??? Oooh la la!
KathEats says
No?! You’re the second person to ask me that. What prompted the question? Wish I were!
KathEats says
Ohhhhhh the graphic!!! That’s someone else’s packing video screenshot 🙂
Zoe says
Yes I was also confused by that
Eileen says
Oops! Yes, I thought that was your own graphic. Tant pis!
KathEats says
I’ll just hope it’s foreshadowing : )

Packing cubes are a total travel game changer. Hands down the best thing we bought for our around-the-world trip. You’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them. Enjoy!
PS. That candle sounds amazing! 🙂
polly says
yay to all of this!
and i have a buddy who works for Dave Ramsey!
and … Mazens little shoes are “heart face emoji”
XOXO

Kristin Hannah is an amazing author; if you check out her author page on Amazon (http://amzn.to/2gIDHN3), you’ll see that she’s incredibly prolific. She writes about female relationships, friendships, mothers and daughters, sisters, etc. The Nightingale is one of her best, and of course, as you know, centers around the two sisters. Her other one similar to it, and probably my second favorite is Winter Garden. It’s about a mother/daughter relationship and is more historical fiction like The Nightingale in that it centers on the Siege of Leningrad during WWII in which more than a million civilians died when that city was surrounded and supply lines cut off. The other one I loved (I think it was my first introduction to her actually) was Firefly Lane and it’s about best friends. There’s a follow up to it too that takes place many years later, called Fly Away. And Night Road was super heartwrenching, I sobbed during most of it, but it is also a story that stuck with me.
KathEats says
Thank you! I can’t wait to read more.
Betsy says
I second Winter Garden! Loved that book.
Tracy says
Loved The Nightingale! Other Kristin Hannah books I liked were Firefly Lane and Fly Away. Be sure to give us a review on your new book. I’m very interested!
I’m glad you like to write these posts cuz they’re my favorite to read!!
April says
Definitely add Firefly Lane and Fly Away to your reading list. They are great books! Winter Garden was great too – hard to read at times. The Nightingale will be next for me. 🙂

This is such a fun post! I’m totally checking out that boy in the photo podcast – LOVE stuff like that! 🙂
KathEats says
It’s a good one!
Heather McClees says
I love Nashville! I didn’t know that, thanks for telling us here on the blog. Great list of favorites! 🙂
Karlie says
To read: Commonwealth by Ann Patchet. One of my favorite authors and this book is amazing. Thanks for sharing! xx
KathEats says
Sent a sample to my Kindle!
Jenn says
I love all of Kristen Hannah’s books. Also along the same line you can read Emily Giffin and Sarah Jio – so good!
KathEats says
I love Sarah Jio too!
Ashlee says
Thanks for the book love <3
I agree with all of the comments above, Kristen Hannah is a fantastic writer and all of her books are wonderful.
For some 'fluff' reading lately, I've been into Colleen Hoover.
Agnese says
Loved the post – the H&M statement bracelet is my favorite piece. Definitely going to check it out.
I’ll have to buy the book too, sounds so intriguing!
Lovely post!

Hello! I have been reading your blog for many years and I love it! I’ve found that we have a very similar taste in country music and thought I’d recommend an artist from around my area (Alberta). His name is Brett Kissel and I think you should listen to his song I Didn’t Fall in Love with your Hair. I makes me cry every time.
KathEats says
Looking it up now!
Kara says
Every other month doesn’t mean every other week?
KathEats says
There are four blades that come as a set at a time (suggested for one blade every week), so I use a new blade every 2 weeks so that’s a set every two months. Sorry that wasn’t clear.
Em says
The Sperry shoes are great – I loved them so much had them brought over from the US to Oz by a Calafornian relative! Perfect for my 3 1/2 year old boy.
Andrea says
I love Reply All – all their episodes are great (although you do have to have at least some interest in technology for most of them, that one was more of a general audience episode)! And, my razor replacement interval is measured in months, not weeks 😉 Sometimes I switch to a new one and end up cutting myself I’m so used to apply pressure to get it to actually shave!
KathEats says
Haha! I have done that too : )
Melanie Gilbert says
OMG there are packing videos? There goes my day!! 🙂
Also, check out the band Midland if you haven’t already heard them. I think you’ll likey!
Happy Monday, Kath!
