What was found?
A personal experience unlike any other. Call me melodramatic, but that show was life changing! Not so much in a “I’m going to live my life differently” way, but in a “I will never forget that” way. It was almost like I was on The Island too.
I have to let the finale completely sink in before I write about it (and I promise to do so in a closed space so I don’t spoil the show for any of you – because I KNOW you are all going to start watching, right!? It’s all on Netflix!) But in general, the ending was satisfying and an appropriate way to end such an adventure. I wasn’t let down. (But I do still have lots of questions to sort through! The internet will have answers…)
We invited Jacob Hillary over for dinner so she could enjoy the finale with us.
A formal invitation was sent…
She arrived with a pineapple!
We made pizza and salad as promised
Matt style with 50% whole wheat crust (I’ve been egging him to get back to 100% WW!) with cheddar, peppers, mushrooms, and tomato mash for sauce [simply fresh tomato sautéed in a pan to make into a sauce – easier than opening a runny jar and only using a quarter cup!]
Plus a side salad with goat cheese and the pineapple!
More on the side for island snacking
Enjoyed in front of the show, of course
And that special dessert? Jeni’s ice cream!
I only regret using a mug because my tongue could not lick the last drops out! This is the best ice cream flavor in the whole wide world, islands included.
Goodnight.
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
I love that you sent Hillary a formal invitation – awesome 🙂 And YAY for Jeni’s – Salty Caramel truly is the best!
Kathleen says
Ok. You got me – definitely looking into Lost on Netflix!
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
Your pizza always looks so delicious not even close to the ones I had!!!! I am glad you liked Lost I plan on watching it too with my husband!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I hate yet love getting sucked into shows. I’ve been resisting Lost though.
Sneakers2Sandals says
Ahhh I can’t believe you added up all the shows! Youre making me want to rematch Lost and we all know that’s not a good idea…can’t wait for your post series thoughts!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I love pineapple! That looks delicious, and so does your pizza! What will you watch now!?!?
KathEats says
I hope to start reading!!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I LOVED watching lost and now I think I might have to watch it again! 🙂
Emily says
YES!! LOVED LOST! I also thought the finale was well done, although I still have questions as well! But that’s what makes it such a great show, everyone can come up with their own conclusions and most of them are probably right in some way!!
Becca says
Alrighty, I’m sold. LOST will be my Summer series!
Oh, and I totally get the “my life is changed by this show-watching experience”. I’ve felt that way about one TV series before too. Still think back to those days and episodes and reflect on how they were indeed good times.
Marne says
I love Jeni’s ice cream! She is truly an artist! You need to try Gravel Road (Salty Caramel with Smoked Almonds) and the Brambleberry Crisp. Having moved from Columbus, so glad I can get it in Chicago locally. Ordering online was dangerous to my waistline! Glad you enjoyed Lost!!
Katie @ Creature of Habit says
I have tried Lost a couple of times and never made it past the first season. I think that has more to do with my attention span then the show, though. Maybe someday I’ll finally see the light and join the Lost addicts club.
But for now I have to find some carmel ice cream. That looks so good!
vista orthodontist says
How was it though? I’ve never really got into the series but I’ve always heard of people being disappointed with how it went down.
KathEats says
Wonderful overall
violinistag says
Wow, didn’t realize Jeni’s was sold all over the country. They’re based right here in Columbus, OH!! I agree, they have the best ice cream flavors EVER. So unique.
Brie @ Brie Fit says
I have tried to get into Lost two or three times and I just can’t get past the first 5-6 episodes. Not my cup of tea!
Abby says
My best friend and I spent every Tuesday night glued to the TV and I remember being so sad when the show ended. I still listen to the music on youtube and get a little nostalgic. Nothing has compared since! I am a total Lostie, but I think it will be a long while before I can watch it again, if ever. I don’t think it would have the same magic the second time around.
Annette @FitnessPerks says
OHHH my goodness. I would LOVE that ice cream. I LOVE salted caramel ANYthing!!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
best ice cream ever? okay that’s huge praise!
it looks awesome just from that one picture of it!
Angie says
Salty caramel pink berry has become my newest pregnancy craving too! Loving pineapple with cottage cheese too.
lynn @ the actor's diet says

Haha… Checking it out!

1. I am recovering from throat surgery and I need entertainment, looks like I’ll start Lost!
2. That pizza looks SO good…especially since I haven’t eaten solids in days 😉
Khushboo says
I hate ending a tv show which I was glued to…life feels sort of empty after ;)!
Kim says
I am def interested to hear what you have to say about the finale because I was disappointed. Maybe it’s because I watched it as it was coming out and spent years of my life suck into it.
Kavi @ Lab to Fab! says
I laughed out loud at “We invited Jacob/ Hilary over for dinner.” HA! What a great show. So glad you enjoyed it. Definitely thought provoking!
David says
Haha I must be the only person who thinks the lost final was completly trash!.
Love the pizza though well done! 🙂
Meryl says
I just had jeni’s for the first time last weekend in Columbus. Not only is their ice cream delicious, but the milk they use to make it is awesome. I had a chance to meet the owner of Snowville Creamery two years ago at an Ohio based organic farming convention and love his practices. Their milk taste so much better than others I knew this ice cream was going to be amazing.
Kt says
YAY I am so happy that someone else really loved all of Lost. I thought the show was brilliant. And so beautiful. I saw some of the locations on Oahu… Paradise (since there arent smoke monsters trying to eat you). Just wait until you’ve had enough distance from the show that you can re-watch the pilot. It’s amazing the second time around.
Allison k says
Agreed! Watching the second time is interesting!
Roxanne says
Sounds like you had a wonderful time with “LOST” hope you find something else just as exciting to replace that feeling of “looking forward to ____”
Savannah says
I’m from Dublin, Ohio! So excited to see that Jenni’s is really around the states now. My favorite is the almond brittle. Unfortunately they still don’t ship to where I live in rural China! 🙁
Ashley @ Coffee, Cake and Cardio says
What a fun night. I can wait to watch this series with my fiancé after we get married. We’re saving it for after we move in together.
Sarah says
goat cheese and pineapple, eh? Sounds weird but potentially lovely. and yes, jeni’s salty caramel is my paradise in ice cream form.
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Dinner looks delicious. I never watched Lost when it was on. Perhaps I should give it a try.
robin says
We have a cupcake store here in Valparaiso that makes a salted caramel cupcake that i just love, so ice cream in that combo sounds fantastic.
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
Ha! Love the invitation!
And that salad looks AWESOME.
polly says
D and i watched every. single. episode. at least TWICE! ha. I loved the ending too, pretty much. I was a bit miffed at first, but then it all sort of sank in. I LOVE Jack! and Kate. And Sawyer. and Locke. Kind of like Seinfeld, there will never be another show like LOST!!!
Happy baby boy bun baking today, sweet Kath!! 🙂
XOXO
Sarah says
Oh my gosh you have no idea how hard it is having a Jeni’s within walking distance. In the fall they come out with Pumpkin 5 spice. Oh. My. Goodness.
Lauren @ A Full Measure of Happiness says
My husband and I absolutely loved LOST–we starting watching it while we were still dating (when it was playing real time on TV) and lost (ha!) the fire during the writers’ strike (season 5, I think?) and the looong breaks in between episodes. We got engaged, married, moved, blah blah blah, then started over from season 1 and finished the whole thing. It is so easy to get obsessed but now any time we have a rainy day I get LOST nostalgia! We definitely are going to own the entire show, because I think we’ll definitely rewatch it all every ten years or so 🙂
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
Best. Show. Ever.
maria @ mim says
Enjoyed LOST thoroughly, but was letdown by the finale. My husband was so let down that he now hates the whole show…
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
I think I could eat pizza every night…and that icecream looks out of this world yummy!
Angie says
Omg I love love love Lost. I found the ending to be absolutely beautiful and very fulfilling. We watched the first couple seasons on Netflix, the last few on TV live. Someone above said they dated, got engaged, and married while watching that show, we did too!! I don’t know if there was a better show…It WAS life changing in a weird way.. I agree! 🙂
Sarah says
While I also loved Lost, I loved this video about all the questions they (mostly) didn’t answer:
KathEats says
omg that is hilarious!! So much left unknown!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Dinner looks delicious! I love homemade pizza! 🙂
Jennifer says
I have never tried salted caramel ice cream but I LOVED the seasonal Starbuck’s Salted Caramel Mocha. Amazing!!! Good thing they don’t offer it year round. 🙂
I have to try an ice cream that flavor. Well, maybe I shouldn’t. (haha)
Hillary says
I think I’ve recommended this to you before, but you have to check out LostPedia now that you’re done with the show. Such great theories/information/missing links. I was obsessed with it when the show was still on!
KathEats says
I have a lot of reading up to do 🙂
Sam says
Did Matt’s sour dough turn out?….that would be an even better crust! xo
Andrea @FrSeed2Stomach says
What show is next?! My vote’s for The Wire and/or Game of Thrones. Such AMAZING TV! 🙂 PS: Any idea if that ice cream is distributed nationally? I want to try it!
KathEats says
It’s time to READ again!!
I have no idea, but it’s out of Ohio, so probably mostly eastern
RunEatRepeat says
I keep wanting to re-watch LOST and Ben keeps trying to get me “on” a new show. So far it hasn’t worked…
Angel7 says
Did I prompt you to get some Jeni’s Salty Caramel icecream? 🙂 Too good not to have on occasion!

LOST was SUCH a compelling show. Husband and I couldn’t bear to miss it when it was on, even when we thought a particular plot thread had wandered off somewhere we didn’t like! After every episode we had to sit and talk about it instead of just changing to something else. So glad you got to experience it too.
maria says
your little side arrow that says NEXT sends you to the previous post. not sure if that’s intended. i thought it would take me the next post.
KathEats says
Since the current post is the latest, it goes backward from there
maria says
it doesn’t matter what post I’m reading. still goes backwards
KathEats says
That’s just how it works…
Cait's Plate says
Your homemade pizza makes my mouth water every time. SO SO delicious looking!
And I have to have to try that Jeni’s ice cream.
I STILL have questions about LOST to this day so I’ll be interested to hear your take on it! I think I need to re-watch the entire series myself…
Sara says
Sadly, no–the internet will not have the answers you seek! I loved LOST, too–but I have to say it did leave a whole lot of unanswered questions. I thought it “lost” (ha) its way a bit towards the end, but I can’t say the finale left me unsatisfied–just a bit confused. But I guess that’s ok. Some questions are best left unanswered.
KathEats says
I’ve already sorted a bunch of thoughts by reading other people’s responses – so fun to discuss
Jessica says
That’s hilarious that you had both pineapple and pizza while watching the finale. My husband and I watched it live and I made him Hawaiian pizza for a festive dinner!
Emma says
This post makes me so happy. I LOVE Lost and I have enjoyed seeing your side comments about it as you have gone through the series. I might just have to watch it all again (for the 3rd time…). 🙂
Courtney says
So happy you enjoyed it! If you’re looking for another completely absorbing, AMAZING series to get into, may I suggest HBO’s Six Feet Under. It’s a little dark, but beautiful and thought-provoking. You’d be hooked!
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
Never had Jeni’s but we have an ice cream shop here in the Twin Cities called Izzy’s and their salted caramel is the BEST! The pineapple goat cheese salad looked to die for. YUM!
Sara says
OMG JENI’S! Forgive the capital letters, but I just stumbled on the salty caramel ice cream at a farmer’s market last summer–it was exquisite. Expensive, but exquisite. I’ve been in Mexico for the last school year, and Jeni’s might have to be one of my first splurges once I’m Stateside again. Great way to ring in the finale!
Cindy Love Childers says
Hey Kath! First time on here replying, just found your blog a week or so ago through a friend. Really enjoying it!!! I too am pregnant (11 weeks…with my third). So fun, but the morning (all day) sickness is doing one over on me. I love reading about what you eat while pregnant (and maybe you eat the same not pregnant??) as it gives me ideas on what might go down well that day. Most food repulses me at the moment but if I’m not constantly eating, I feel sick. Such an oxymoron. Quick question. I’ve noticed you put a lot of cheddar cheese on things when something calls for cheese. Just curious why you choose that type and if it has some wonderful healthy properties I don’t know about. I also love that you put goat’s cheese on loads of things too – one of my favorites!
KathEats says
Hey Cindy!
Congrats on your pregnancy! I’m so sorry to hear you are sick because I was also really sick from weeks 6 to about 14. I ended up taking Unisom + Vitamin B6 that was a lifesaver, but I still had tons of food aversions and on-and-off nausea. [I’m guessing you’ve found my baby blog (http://www.babykerf.com/) but there’s the link if not).
I eat sharp cheddar because it’s my favorite cheese and is pretty inexpensive at Whole Foods. So versatile too. Good source of protein + calcium!
Colleen @ Culinary Colleen says
I’m so glad you liked the finale! It was so controversial when it first aired, but I always loved it!
Ryan at Jeni's says
Thanks for the love, Kath!
(We are big Lost fans at Jeni’s. The week in between episodes used to be excruciating. Powering it out on Netflix back-to-back-to-back is a great way to go.)
