Hey there!!
Were you as annoyed about the server downtime this morning as I was? Probably not
When the blog is down I hold my breath. HOPING it’s back to stay. And here I was just telling someone last week “my blog never goes down.” Guess I forgot to knock on wood. [Although Dreamhost said it was a larger-that-KERF issue]After a call with the former Ms. Barney Butter, I whipped out a lunch with our leftovers. It took 2 minutes to put together in a bowl and 15 minutes to eat.
Summer Leftover Salad
- 2 grilled zucchini strips
- 1 grilled corn on the cob
- 2 grilled tomato skewers
- 1/3 of a small cucumber
- 1/3 cupish cooked black beans
- Crumbled Blue D’auvergne (can someone please phonetically spell the pronunciation of that for me!?)
No dressing because summer foods taste goooooood!
New TJ Maxx bowl! <3
Cherries on the side!
Nail time!!
Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots says
Hahah, I guess it happens to everyone from time to time!
Love the new bowl! So cute!
K says
d’auvergne = dough-vair-knee-uh
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
hahaha! I was going to spell it out too 😛 without the ‘d’, it’s just oh-vairg-kneeuh
KathEats says
Thanks!!! Totally not what I was expecting. I say: ” Da’ O-ver-gine” 🙂
Lisa K says
it’s pronounced
dough as in dough boy
ver as in very
n’e – there is no english sound like “gn” that I can think of, so just end it with an n sound with some gusto!
Balancing Sylvia says
For some reason this breakdown reminded me of Brad Pitt in Inglorious Basterds saying “Bone Jair NOH” 😀
Eileen says
the “gn” is like the “nyuh” sound in the word “lasagna” (which is not English but most people know how to say it!). And for D’auvergne, pronounce as Lisa K specifies with the emphasis would on the second syllable. dough-VER-nyeh 🙂
I’m still a little scared of blue cheese but if I ever see this one I will give it a try! Hopefully after this pronunciation analysis I will remember its name!
Hannah says
That’s what I was going to say too 😀
KathEats says
Thanks!
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
That salad almost makes me want to love blue cheese, don’t worry i can’t pronounce that either!
Cherries are the best, anything cherry flavoured is total ick though imho 🙂
Jennifer says
Agree! I don’t even like cooked cherries (cherry pie–ick too).
Stepfanie says
dough-vair-nyuh
Cait's Plate says
I WAS heartbroken when your server was down!! I was like “WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME I CAN’T READ KATH’S BLOG?!?!” 🙂
I’m glad you’re back up and running.
I LOVE that bowl the cherries are in! Where did you get it??
Cherries on the side with lunch was my choice today too – definitely a good one 🙂
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
That salad looks amazing!!! I’m thinking I’m going to have to copy it next week.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Whenever the server goes down I hold my breath as well! I’m always scared that its NEVER going to come back 🙁
Balancing Sylvia says
I’m in love with both of those bowls!!! Enjoy your manicure 🙂
Dea Diaries says
I stopped by the GH today and picked up my first loaf of the Cville Crunch. After all of the yummy sandwiches you were making with it, I couldn’t resist! Just had a slice and it is SO delicious and nutritious. I’m going back for more!!
P.S. the staff was super-friendly and nice!
KathEats says
So glad you liked it!!!!!!
KathEats says
(and sorry I missed you)
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Yum blue cheese! I’m making blue cheese burgers this week and can’t wait!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
The computer/internet is one of the most frustrating things sometimes. Especially when something isn’t working. Maybe we’ll do blue cheese bison burgers this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration!
Lesley says
That salad bowl is adorable!
Namaste Gurl says
Love that bowl, love your ingredients and LOVE you choice colorful meal 🙂
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
Mmm, that grilled veggie salad looks great!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I’m glad your blog is up and running — I had no clue it was down, it was just strange for it to take so long for your post to show up in Google Reader! I thought maybe you had slept in 🙂
Adi says
Aside: I wish I could use exclamation marks at work as often as they’re used in the comments section of your blog. It’s awesome. (See how weak that looks without one?) It’s awesome!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Wow, those phonetic spellings are NOTHING like I was imagining it (and saying it in my head) to be!
Caitlyn says
Leftover salads are the best. So are TJ MAXX bowls and cherries.
lynn @ the actor's diet says
server problems – ugh! a big reason i have never switched to a self-host. i can’t handle it!!!
Christine @ BookishlyB says
Just think of it as keeping your readers in suspense 😉 But I know it’s annoying on your end, for sure.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love huge salads in the Summer….no dressing is the way to GO! With fruit on the side!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
So jealous of that blue cheese! It goes well with cherries and chocolate- yes, I have strange food tastes 🙂
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
Such a fabulous summer salad! And I was bummed about your blog being down, I kept clicking refresh, I needed my KERF breakfast update! 😉
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
That salad looks so good! 🙂 Glad KERF is back up and running!
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
Hola! I do believe ‘dough-vair-nyuh’ is correct though for risk of over-pronouncing ‘dough’ keep in mind that the ‘dough’ is not over emphasized. It is short and quick with the emphasis on the ‘vair’
‘Dough’… How appropriate! haha
That blue is delicious stuff. Right now for blue I’ve been eating Valdeon… it’s a SPICY Spanish blue… makes the tongue really tingle! I really love blue cheese mixed with pasta… it’s a good trick for a quick creamy ‘sauce’!
Love the bowl happy your server is back up! yay! 🙂
Sweet and Savvy says
Looks great! Yay for getting nails done:)
Kathy W. says
d’auvergne pronounced by French speakers:
www.forvo.com/word/bleu_d’auvergne/
www.forvo.com/word/jeanne_d’auvergne/
(google “pronounce x” and you’ll usually get some sites where you can hear the word you want)
Kathy W. says
(sorry those didn’t come through as links, but you can cut & paste!)
KathEats says
Brilliant! Thanks!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ooh that lunch does look lovely! Have a good nail appointment – I haven’t had one in ages but I’d do anything for a pedicure right now!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says

It wasn’t just KERF – I noticed some other blogs were down too.
Bridget says

You are making me ache for some tomatoes right now. It’s a visceral need at this point!
(Dramatic, much?) ; )
Jennifer says
I had trouble yesterday morning and today getting on your blog. It was reeeally slow. But, not any more. 🙂 I love that bowl!!
I can’t believe you fit all of that food into your tiny self. (haha) Summer food does taste good!

OMP. I was up and down ALL morning during our radio interviews. The DJs were even like, “Uh, do you know your blog is down?” What are we going to do with Dreamhost?!?
KathEats says
OMP – lol!
What awful timing for you 🙁
Amanda (tomboy that wears makeup) says
I would be all about the cheese right now, but I’m on day 9 of a raw food challenge!! Or as my Raw Food coach says, “celebration” not challenge, lol. It’s going good though, but reading food blogs isn’t helping, haha
Emily@SavoryandSavage says
Ugh, server down time is the worst (((
That salad looks incredible! Make me want to leave my new computer and go shopping …. well no the lure of the shiny new computer is too strong ))
Johanna B says

Never forget to knock on wood! I hate when the server goes down, especially when it’s at a time I don’t have time to wait on the phone and deal with it! Hello Saturday morning 10 minutes before I was supposed to be coaching cheer camp.

Techie troubles are no fun, but that bowl looks tasty! Any time you say grilled veggies, I’m in!
Laura says
Just looking at your summer salad makes my mouth water! And, your new bowl is so pretty. Have you ever collected any vintage dishes (Pyrex, perhaps?) to display your food in? Yummy food in pretty Pyrex is about as good as it gets!
KathEats says
I don’t have any, but they sound very chic!
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Thatsca gorgeous bowl of leftovers! Glad KERF is back up. Servers…. Sigh.
Khushboo says
Ahh that explains it- i thought something was wrong with my laptop because it just wasn’t loading your site!
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
Haha I was totally laughing at myself while reading these comments! Once I saw the pronunciations, I kept repeating the name of the cheese out loud until I got it right.
Please tell me I’m not the only one? 🙂
Ally at A Girl in her Kitchen says
I almost bought that exact bowl at TJ MAxx! 🙂 I ended up getting one very similar.
Barb says
Google Translate is great! It will even pronounce it for you so you can listen to it being said correctly!
