If those are not the themes of KERF, then I don’t know what is 🙂
Food: Real Meals
Kale salad with two of my favorite Trader Joe’s toppings: oven-baked cheese crisps and truffle marcona almonds.
A smashingly delicious baguette from Tilman’s! This took me back to the days when I studied at Cambridge in college and got takeaway baguettes stuffed with Camembert cheese and ham all the time.
Fit Foodie Finds Mexican Beef Skillet. Cheese and beans and meat – oh my! I turned this into nachos for Mazen.
A big power breakfast after a hard early morning workout: cheesy eggs, grapefruit, buttered toast, coffee. I got up twice last week for 6am workouts!
Oatmeal with a puddle of almond butter and crunchy granola. For old time’s sake!
Family
A little visit to McGuffey park!
B seems to like getting dizzy
And being pulled in a wagon! He is finally old enough to play with the big boys. I don’t know who likes it more – him or them!
I wondered when this day would come: Mazen would rather ride in the stroller than run/walk/scooter/bike. He is BEGGING me for a double Bob! Haha. If you’re in Cville and giving one away, we will take it ; )
I also never thought I’d see the day when I had coffee hand-delivered to me at 6am. His new thing is making my coffee for me and he beat me to the pot! (Luckily we have this coffeemaker with a dispenser so it doesn’t involve a super hot glass carafe. I love it.)
Birch has turned into a toddler tornado!! One minute he’s sitting playing with a toy; the next minute the entire contents of a kitchen drawer are on the floor. He’s incredibly curious! I had to take a super fast shower the other day and put him in the bathtub with a pile of toys. I put my robe over the faucet so he wouldn’t be tempted to turn it on. Not 60 seconds after I got in the shower (I had my eyes on him the whole time thankyouglassdoors) he had pulled down the robe, found the faucets, and turned one on! I jumped out of the shower covered in soap suds so fast. Basically we’re in that “it takes two” stage if we need to do anything other than play with him on the floor.
Burts Bees Baby Clothing
But look at those super cute jammies!! I’m obsessed with the Burts Bees baby clothing line. We got three pairs of these pajamas, and they are so cute! (You can bet we got the trees ones too!) I also found these super cute rompers at Target for the spring/summer in the next size up. The prices are so good, and the clothes are really stylish without being cheesy covered in cartoons. I love these grapefruit ones for girls!
Fun
If you are on my email list then you got a preview sneak peek – KERF is getting a makeover any day now. There are going to be SO many improvements to the site. Some of you are going to freak out because my latest post will not be at the very top of the page. But it WILL be very easy to find and see all of the latest blog posts together in one section. I absolutely cannot wait for this redesign because this is the first time EVER I have hired a designer to help me make my site my user-friendly. Who knew a pro could do things I could never in a million years DIY!? This whole process has helped me figure out what my secret sauce topics are and where best to focus moving forward.
According to my data, many of you read from your mobile devices, and KERF is terribly scroll-heavy right now. It’s impossible to find out who I am, and my posts are all listed in one long row. The new design has them set up as thumbnails that are easy to skim to find the post you’re looking for. Plus there will be a nice search feature at the top of the page! I can’t wait to unveil it.
Here’s a peek at the mobile version:

Looks like such a fun weekend and great photos of Mazen and Birch!

Our son is a few months older than Birch and we’re in the same stage with him getting into EVERYTHING! If it’s silent for too long I know he’s into something he probably shouldn’t be! Last week he realized he could climb onto the kitchen chairs and then get onto the table.
Kath Younger says
Oh gosh!! B isn’t climbing anything but stairs…yet! And yes – silence is never good!

Love these jammies! Do you find they run big or true to size? I loaded the Amazon shopping cart 🙂
Kath Younger says
I would not say run big. Birch is wearing 18 mo size and is 15 mos. lots of leg room to grow though!

What are the freebeies? Is the consultant fee being waived?
Kath Younger says
If you send me an email I can send you the flyer 🙂

Loved this recap! And I agree – the post title sums up KERF so well! Longtime reader here (2008/2009 or so), and can’t wait to see your redesign! Especially excited for the mobile site layout. I enjoy your blog so much – it’s like a treat to read it, and I’m sure the redesign will just make it that much more enjoyable! 🙂

Thank you!! The mobile is going to be sooooo much better.

Thanks for sharing that Mexican beef skillet recipe :).

Was looking at the coffee maker! Can you give a mini review on why you chose it over a normal carafe style coffee maker?
Kath Younger says
I really don’t like glass carafes (having broken a few in my life) and having to pick them up when they’re full of burning hot coffee. We first tried this maker at a beach house and I loved it. It’s so much more peaceful when you’re sleepy to walk up and push a button. So we got one for my parents’ Bald Head house too. And then when our maker bit the dust we got it here. I love everything about it but there is one big drawback and that’s a tall to-go cup barely fits under there, and you have to remove the drip tray to put a tall cup under. I use my Yeti mug most days so it’s not an issue for me, but Thomas uses tall to-go cups that fit in his cupholder and so we do have some family issues with pulling the drip tray out and putting it back 🙂 If you use mugs or a low cup, you’ll have no issues.
Isabel says
Super helpful, thank you! Does it make and keep the coffee super hot? I’ve had a few different coffee makers that never get coffee super hot and before I know it my drink is cold.
Kath Younger says
Yes! Thomas likes his super hot and it’s great!
