Blog was down for a few hours this evening – thanks DreamHost 👿 It’s now 3AM and I woke up in a panic that something was wrong. LOL – had to come down and post!! Back to bed!
Kelsey and I wrapped up our studying and were on our way. I grabbed a few snacks for the afternoon!
Honeycrisp. Best apple bag of my life. I ate it at 5:00 just before my test!
And a fruit leather by Stretch Island Fruit Company that I got as a sample lately. I’m not the biggest fan of fruit leathers in general, but this one was very good and all natural and great fuel for my study walk. Lauri and I walked for about 50 minutes while going over our notes one last time.
Lastly, a new Bear Naked Grain-ola Bar, which I also ate at 5:00 before my test and shared with my friends.
This bar is so new it doesn’t have a label yet! But if it did…here’s what it would look like:
It was awesome. Like a chewy oatmeal cookie. I couldn’t get a clear photo with my phone, but here’s the general contents:
Kelsey loved it
Test went well!!
A few hours later I came home to find Matt cooking!! Clearly he’s feeling (and looking!) better. Here’s the icing contraption we worked out involving a stretch band and a black sock!
I made a POM + Tonic mocktail to sip while we cooked
Dinner was a repeat!
Baked Potato Soup
Coined as one of my top 5 best soups!
Tonight’s version was made exactly like the first and was delish!
Enjoyed on a tray while watching the movie Be Kind Rewind, which I did not find very good and left in the middle to blog. Matt’s enjoying it though!
Mid-way through the movie we broke for a little dessert brought over by Mama Karen for the patient! I’m not sure whose day it brightened more: mine or his!
She found this gelato at Fresh Market, and there is nothing light about it!
But it was some of the best iced.cream. I have ever tasted!!! Especially with a VeggieGirl Brownie Points Outsider on the side! SO fudgy. SO chewy!
Served with hot tea to counter the chill
Nothing makes things better like ice cream! Looking better by the minute:
Off to catch the end of the movie and get cozy for bed. Tomorrow is all about packing and gearing up for this trip. SO. EXCITED.
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
That soup looks SO good! Sounds very comforting and cozy on a chilly fall night. Yummy!
Ice cream is the perfect ending to any kind of day. 🙂
Matt is looking less puffy — yay! Poor fella!

I am so glad Matt is doing better! That last photo was really scary when he couldn’t open his eyes 🙁 Poor guy. He’s looking so much better!
Christina says
Oh, that poor guy. I can’t imagine how miserable that would be!
Marina says
I’m glad his a bit better. That’s the smallest bowl of icecream I’ve ever seen 😀
candice says
What a dedicated blogger you are, Kath 😉 Glad to see you had a nice dinner + dessert. Food eaten from bowls is yummy!
Stacey says
That ice cream looks really great! Glad your test went well 🙂
Lauren says
I think honey crisps are the best variety of apple this year! I haven’t been disappointed by any of the ones I’ve had.
Glad to see Matt’s feeling and looking better… the ice cream sounds awesome.
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
So glad he is doing better!
Potato soup is my fave. It is so delish. We have that gelato at my grocery store and I’ve had it a few times. It is sooooo good.
Katy @ These Beautiful Feet says
Yay!! SO glad he is doing much better. Phew, I was nervous for you! Glad your test went well! I have never really liked fruit leathers until this year. I guess when you find a good one, you can be hooked! The perfect amount of fruity sweetness. 🙂
Jun says
That gelato looks amazing!
I remember reading that you like Biscoff biscuits, and was wondering if you’ve ever tried Lotus Caramelized Biscuit spread? It sounds a bit strange, but it really tastes like Biscoffs, just in spread form. It’s probably not so healthy, but I’ve been using a little in my morning oatmeal (instead of pb), and on waffles 🙂
Lauren says
You have no idea how glad I am to hear that Matt is doing much better. I was so worried. Really, I was checking your page all day for updates. Poor guy! But you are right, he is looking sooooo much better. Thank GOODNESS!!!
I LOVE the Bare Naked Bars. The Tropical is also lovely but I’m not sure how I feel about the Chocolate Cherry. I think I’m just not a fan of a chocolatey granola bar but if you try it, let me know what you think.
Have a great day! Good luck on the exams.
VeggieGirl says
So glad that the brownie points are still making a hit! 😀
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Creamy potato soup s my absolute fav!!
Susan says
Aw yay, glad to see Matt is doing better. That bear naked bar looks really good! Hope the price scale isn’t based off their bags of granola, you’d think there was flecks of gold in there or something 😛
Light Delight with TouTou says
Oh Love that potato soup and gelato ! They look delicious!
Hope Matt getting better soon – it’s not fun to have that swollen eyes 🙁
Nicole says
That was such a bad movie, I don’t know how I made it to the end!
Stefanie says
I’ve been following your blog for a while now, but this is the perfect moment to post a comment! I see you have a Chimay beer glass, that’s belgian beer! (I’m a proud belgian… :-))
I didn’t know it was exported to the US!
And the Lotus Caramelized Biscuit spread suggested by Jun, you really must give it a try. It’s a belgian product also! 🙂 It is full of calories but soooo good… It was first produced only a little while ago and since then a huge success here.
Marisa (Trim The Fat) says
I love apples and can’t believe I haven’t tried a Honeycrisp, yet! *put on list*
Gosh, I can’t help feeling so badly for Matt! I can imagine how uncomfortable he is feeling with that swelling!
Gelato = love 🙂
Julie says
Yay Matt! He looks so much better!
Ashley says
Kath! I actually just posted that granola bar on twitter! I love it! It’s my new favorite bar. My mom actually found them at Costco, and for a huge box they were a really good price. Can’t wait to meet you tomorrow, so excited for San Fran 🙂

Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
Glad Matt is feeling better! . . . I’m in love with your mocktail, sometimes you just want a treat but certainly do not need alcohol . . . love it!
Sophie says
That soup looks fabulous! Do you think you could use all skim milk instead of buttermilk, or does that really change the flavor and consistency? Maybe use a little 1/2 and 1/2 to offset the loss of fat?
Katie says
i had a mild panic attack last night when your site was down. you’ve become part of my routine 🙂
Joelle (The Pancake Girl) says
That ice cream looks decadent and delicious- perfect medicine!
Grace says
I could have sworn I saw that same bar in Publix a few weeks ago. Maybe I’m losing it. That’s good that Matt is feeling better finally! Poor guy. That gelato looks AMAZING.
Cait (Cait's Plate) says
YAY! I’m so glad he’s feeling better! I can’t believe how quickly the medicine worked!
And HOLY YUM! That gelato looks to die for. It really doesn’t get much better than “Caramel Cookie Crunch”…except when you add a Veggie Girl Brownie Point!! So jealous right now…
Tina says
Weird, I got that same BareNaked sample but mine did have the label! It feels so soft, and I can’t wait to try it! And oh my goodness. That ice cream looks incredible!!!
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says

So glad you posted for the Stretch Island Fruit Co! Our store just recently quit carrying them and my daughter is addicted! They’re so much better than regular “fruit snacks”, so I love ’em too!
Kristacular says
Love your Chimay glass! Nerd definitely prefers to keep beer in ours 🙂 He looks at me crazy when I say I need a fancy glass for my grapefruit juice 🙂
ellie says
Glad Matt is feeling better!
The Bear Naked bars are on shelves now (I just found out Bear Naked are now owned by Kashi- am I the only one who didn’t know this?!)
Kath says
Re. Bars: Maybe Bear Naked was just cleaning out their cabinets!
Jun,
Oh my….sounds amazing!
Stefanie,
Chimay is delicious! Love the glasses too 🙂 Hope I can visit Belgium someday!
Hi Kelly!
Sophie,
I think you could omit the buttermilk. I would use 2% milk if you do, although I bet it would be just fine with skim.

I just tried the tropical fruit Bare Naked bar and it was Fantastic! I guess I’m not 100% sure on the nutritional content. I feel like it may be a little too high cal.

I’m glad to see your husband is slowly starting to recover!! That was starting to get scary at one point.

I LOVE Telenti! You should try the strawberry one … SOOOO good.
Carrie @ I See Monsters says
Hahahaha…I actually have my name in the credits of Be Kind Rewind despite not really working on it at all. Long story. I’ve never actually seen the film myself! From the little snippets I’ve seen, it didn’t seem like my cup of tea.
That gelato looks ridiculous. I always see it at the store and don’t splurge…but I think I might have to now. 😉
Chelsea says
I just had that Bear Naked bar 2 days ago and I liked it but I didn’t like that it was refined sugar free EXCEPT for the cranberries-that seemed stupid to me.
Tay says
I received that bar in the mail as my free sample from them, and posted the exact same thing – that it tastes like an oatmeal cookie!! Yummm.
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Looks good…both Matt and the food. 🙂
