Had a bit of a crazy morning here! Blog was shut down by the powers that be for a few hours.
Apparently my host thinks my blog should only feature one photo of the Buddha bowl per post to minimize potential server interruptions. I was very offended at the suggestion that I post too many photos of the same bowl! And apparently the photo of my cool coffee "just adds clutter."
Imagine KERF without photos: "Good morning. I ate oats. I drank coffee. It was good."
I got all dressed up in a skirt but our meetings were pushed from 10AM to 2PM, so we just hung around
Since we’d planned a business lunch out today that was canceled, we reverted to the leftovers in the fridge when we were hungry. Lots of choices!
I went with a hodge podge salad – my favorite!
Romaine, roasted veggies, tomato, tofu, pesto clumps, kale granola [<– was indeed fabulous on a salad!]
On the side some Breakfast Blast toast with a drizzle of local honey
And that’s the end of that chapter!
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
Yeah, I think just one pic of each item would not be the KERF we all know!
Leftovers are best on a salad or folded into a wrap — works every time!
Heather @ The Single Dish says
Love the fork/napkin shot! KERF without photos would be horrible, the server people just don’t understand!
marie says
Your pictures are awesome, and please do not stop posting just as much or more than you are currently posting!!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
No photos on KERF? Yeah..that would be goood…how rude of the blog powers!!!
Marisa @ Loser for Life says
Host schmost, whadda they know?! Sorry that happened, Kath 🙁 Don’t let the powers that be bring you down !
Great looking salad!
grocery goddess jen says
Jeez! I hope you set the host straight! We like seeing the Buddha bowl more than once per post, and love all the photos!
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
Coffee Cup pic “just adds clutter” – LOL! That’s quite the leftover selection and it reminds me that I need to go grocery shopping, we’re down to milk, eggs, and Indian leftovers in our fridge 😉
Nicole says
Your blog surely would not be the same without all of the beautiful pictures!
Maria @ a Healthier Maria says
hahaha did they really tell you that your coffee pics “add clutter”? That’s crazy!
Steph@stephsbitebybite says
I love hodge podge lunches too! You get a little of everything 🙂
Camille says
Kale granola!? How cool and unique! I must try that!
erin says
i’m going to go out on a limb and disagree with (what i guess is) the majority of your readers. first off, i do love your photographs. i think you are really talented and take pretty pictures- there’s really nothing worse than reading a blog post with crappy, blurry photos of food. BUT sometimes i think you could condense down to just a select few, or maybe only take photos that are *actually* different. I would never complain (wait, am i complaining?) but it’s sort of annoying to read a food blog and look at 4 pictures of the same bowl of oatmeal, no matter how nice the photography. But, i guess that’s what the scroll bar is for!
this is not to say i’m siding with your host- i don’t think they should have a say in your blog content and it’s pretty jerky of them to assume they do. (i hope i’m not being a jerk! just my opinion here!)
good luck getting it worked out!
Kath says
I know what you’re saying but they are usually not all the same – I make a hard effort to do one creative, one zoomed in for toppings, one zoomed out for bowl – 3 perspectives. You’d be surprised how many photos I do NOT post because they are the same photo form same perspective twice.
Christine says
I’ve noticed–and loved–the pattern to how many photos you take!
Now that I am trying out this crazy blog thing–I wonder how you actually ARE able to cut down! It’s not easy!
Sarah says
You’ve just convinced me to add a piece of toast to my lunch.
Liz says
I ended up reading your breakfast post in Google Reader with no pictures and Umm.. it sucked! You need to have pictures.. Tell them to stuff it you’ll post what you want!
Kath says
No pictures!? What’s going on!!!!!!!!!
jolene says

J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Honey over a salad sounds sooo good right now!
A good food blog definitely needs good images. I know this personally and as a frequent food blog reader. 🙂
Jenn
Jillian@ Reshape Your Life says
I wish the leftovers in my fridge were like yours!
shauna says
Long time reader, first time poster . . . love the blog, it wouldn’t be the same without pictures. Looking at other blogs with tiny, blurry pics isn’t fun at all . . . and is the reason why they don’t remain in my daily readings.
I’ve wondered for awhile where you’re cutlery set pictured above is from. I’ve seen it before and loved it, but have no idea where to order it from! Thanks!
barefootgirl (our first CSA) says
I would happily eat leftovers from your fridge… I’m so jealous of the TO herbed tofu….. I’ve looked high & low and can’t find anything like it here in Plymouth 🙁
Caitlin (EatFeats) says
Hah. Photography is part of your job! That’s silly of the-powers-that-be. The salad looks delish!
Kaci Higgins says
LOL! I love all of your photos, and my twin and I take multiple pictures of our food to get different perspectives. That’s probably because of reading your blog and seeing how yours look. 🙂 Have a great day!!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
kerf without the many photos? shudder to think!
Judy says
I love the photo’s every single one…. not the same at all without them… It did make me laugh this afternoon tho, thanks Kath I love your blog just the way it is….
Judy
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
I love your photos, and for your host to complain to a food blogger that they post too many pictures of food is beyond ridiculous!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
Kath, I saw your same piece of bread in several photos. I don’t appreciate that kind of clutter.
😉 What a frustrating morning! Tell them we love your pictures!
Maria @ Kale and Cupcakes says
I think I have to buy that kale granola – stat!!!! Or make some myself. I heart kale.
Valerie @ City|Life|Eats says
The salad looks great – boo to the web host and their opinions on content though.
Amanda says
The salad looks delicious 🙂
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I used to come to your blog and be astounded by the number of pictures, but since I got my DSLR, I can completely understand. I just get snap-happy and want to post all the pretty ones!! Your food photography is always gorgeous though 🙂
Maggi says
Wow. A webhost that actually censors content? Or attempts to?
Amy says
Hmmm…They don’t know what they are talking about!!! The pictures are the best part!
Ella says
What is the name of your blog host? This is the perfect opportunity to use your blog clout to get what you want… mentioning their name can only help your cause!
Kath says
I originally said it…then I thought they might come back to haunt me!
Amber K says
I was bummed this morning when I attempted to check out your breakfast and it wouldn’t work. Made me realize that I have certain blog habits that feel strange when disrupted! LOL
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Oh good– I was worried that it was my computer!!! Whatever– bring on the multiple pictures!! 🙂
That salad looks killer.
Jen (Life's Too Short to Eat Fat Free Cheese) says
Have you considering uploading your photos to a photosharing site like Flickr? At least then your photos are on the flickr server — not your web host’s server. That way you can post as many photos as you’d like in a post.
Plus, I’ve seen free programs that will make a mosaic out of selected flickr images and spit out a single .jpg file.
I’m not familiar wordpress, but with blogger I just grab the html code from flickr in the size photo I want, flip over to the code in my post and paste it. The only two aggravations being that I have to add border=”0″ in the tag to get rid of the nasty blue border and unless you pay for a pro membership, you have to reduce your file size a bit if you’re using a dslr. But that shouldn’t be a big deal since you shouldn’t be posting 28M photos to the web anyway!
Kath says
I definitely don’t have time to upload to Flickr. 3 posts a day – all I have time for a drag and drop in. I always resize my photos down though, which should help a lot. I’m looking at a deicated server. Thanks for the suggestion though, and the single JPG mosaic would be great.
Jo @JAGSfitnessblog.com says
I for one love your pics and hope you don’t stop posting as many 🙂
Stacey says
KERF without pics?! No thank you! Love the hodge podge salad! That’s the best way to use leftovers in my opinion. Hope you had a good meeting!
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
Sometimes random salads really are the best!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Bummer about the host thing! Your pictures are a staple of your blog and would be the same without it. 🙂
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Weird your blog was acting up.. good thing it was a quick fix, though 🙂 The salad looks delish. Love the kale granola!
Natalia @asideofsimple says
Hold steady to your turf KERF! =) Keep those pictures coming.
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
… That is pretty much the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
stacey-healthylife says
Too many pictures, can’t be. They just don’t understand. 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Haha…the comments from your host made me laugh. But, really, KERF would not be the same without all the gorgeous photos. Really. 😀
A Teenage Gourmet (Sami) says
I adore your blog, but I agree with your server to some extent. A photo less wouldn’t hurt. (Just my opinion, please don’t take it offensively!)
Emilyeatsclean says
Mmm honey on bread….yumm-o!!! Food drool!
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
Your post hasn’t shown up in my google reader 🙁 Very frustrating indeed!
Kath says
wha!? I don’t need another problem at the moment 🙁
Natasha says
Your lunch and dinner posts were not on Google Reader for me either, and one from a few days ago was missing too.
Colleen says
Same for me, sadly! Your posts from yesterday didn’t show up in my google reader so I checked your site directly. I figured something must be up! Hope it gets resolved soon for you.
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
I had a similar lunch- salad w/ tofu and multi grain bread on the side. It was awesome!
Lana says
Thanks again for your journey! 🙂 Fun.
Do you / did you ever struggle with binge eating?
Do you have any resource suggestions?
Kath says
I’m sorry but I haven’t. There are several binge eating support groups online that would help, such as the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Eating Disorders (ANAD) helpline at 630-577-1330. I’d also recommend seeing a doctor in your area.
Laura (Starloz) says
the photographs are what help make your blog the best it can be. no photos = no fun.
um, holy salad heaven. that is incredible!
jrf says
I don’t know anything about your agreement with your server company, but it seems to me that you are the client/customer…and they don’t get to tell you what to do with your blog. If you’re exceeding some limit that’s part of your agreement, then they tell you that and charge you more for the service — not tell you what you can and cannot post.
Wendy Heath says
If they’re trying to limit what you’re posting, it’s time to find a new host. End of story. Good luck to you!!
Sarah says
🙁 Your lunch and dinner posts didn’t show up in my google reader. I was so concerned that you had fallen off the face of the earth that I hopped right over here to check. I’m relieved that you’re ok, but bummed that something strange is going on with the reader…
Sheri says
Ummmm…KERF without photos would just be weird!! I for one love reading your blog because of all the beautiful pictures you take!
The hubby says that a dedicated managed server is what would probably be best for you. He owns his own webhosting company..his career is all things computer related. However, the downside is that kind of service does not come cheap!
Lucy says
wow, i can’t believe you make enough money writing this blog for it to be your job!!
Dionne says
Your server host obviously has no idea what makes your blog special. I love the amazing photos of your breakfast and your coffee, they remind me of the small beauties in everyday life. I read your blog every day and I don’t want it to change.
Ally @ Girl in Her Kitchen says
I love your pictures, don’t change! Bring on the Buddha bowl! 🙂 PS Your lunch looks fabulous. Yum.
Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun says
I love the abundance of KERF pictures! Especially those of your salad – I’ll have to try kale granola! 🙂
Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) says
The photos are what we love so much!! Tell them we all say so 😉 No photo reduction! hehe
Dee says
WOW. This just posted to my google reader today. Crazy!
On another note I can’t believe your host would say that to you. Talk about rude.
Jean@RoastedRootsandPumpkinSpice says
Less photos is never the right answer for KERF. 😉
P.S. That kale granola sounds so interesting and delicious!
Hannah says
Pesto clumps? Hmm… maybe I can make that sound appealing in my head… 😛
