I nearly got lost in the fog this morning! But it made for a fun run. That is, until it burned off halfway through!!
The key to morning runs for me is to mentally prepare. I swear my body feels more energized if I know I’m going to run then if I wake up and consider a run. I usually back on with the latter.
4.16 miles to start my day.
On days that I run I like to plan insta-breakfasts that are cold. OIAJ is the perfect solution!
Today it’s “overnight oats in a decorative tall jar”
Filled with:
- 1/3 cup raw rolled oats
- 1/3 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk (I add slightly more milk to accommodate the chia seeds and because I like my dough on the softer size – more liquid makes it softer)
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- Sprinkle cinnamon
- Half banana
- 1/3 cup blueberries
- Lots of Cville Cluster granola
Iced coffee. In the new permanent iced coffee cup!
I shot these with my 50mm lens, which I rarely use. Since buying my 35mm f/2.0 I’ve barely put on my 50mm f/1.8, which I used to think was fabulous. Not only did I have trouble getting good frames, but all the photos (even those shot in f/8.0) seem slightly blurred. 35mm or bust!!
I’m taking the morning off from the bakery to get some things done around the house and for the blog.
One of those things involves these. Get excited. So excited you can almost taste ‘em!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
You have the prettiest jars, mugs, and spoons! They *almost* distract me from your yummy looking food! Have a great day!
amyt @ Chicken Nugget Momma says

Cait's Plate says
I’m dying for that cinnamon oatmeal raisin. Ever since you posted it I’ve wanted some!
LOVE that jar! Where did you get it??
KathEats says
Mom gave it to me!
Mom says
I got a mess of those jars (they have a nice sturdy wooden lid) at Michael’s years ago when we were giving M and M’s to welcome new members at church. Don’t know if they still sell them or not.
Cait's Plate says
Awesome – thanks for letting me know! 🙂 I love Michael’s so I need no excuse to head over there and check it out!
Cait's Plate says
PS – I don’t know what’s better, having those jars filled with M&Ms or those oats! It’d be a tough call 😉
Mom says
Well the M and M’s sure look pretty in them!
Cait's Plate says
I bet! I did that once with a small vase and it was the prettiest sight I’d ever seen 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Love the jar… it is super cute!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with. 🙂

Lisa Fine says
I knew you were out running this morning. I think a few days ago you mentioned that if it’s late morning and you still haven’t posted, you’ve probably gone running. I was right! 😉
And I love those mixes in the bottom photo. Do you package them yourself at your bakery?
KathEats says
You were right!
yes, we made the mixes from scratch
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
What a cute little jar! Although I have to make overnight oats in mason jars or big PB jars because I don’t like taking spoonfuls out and then having it glob over the side of the jar.
Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
Only good can come of the ingredients in that last picture!
Mrs. Fish says
Great looking oats in a jar, I need to keep some jars on hand for my overnight oats!
Baking 'n' Books says
Are you selling the granolas online from GH?
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
Mental preparation is always the biggest challenge for me, in any task! Sometimes, though, I find just not even thinking about it and doing it before I can talk myself out of it is the best method, whether I have mentally set up or not. Yesterday, I randomly just laced up my sneakers and started running. About 1/2 a mile through I was totally shocked and said, “Whoa, when did I start running?!” Ha. At times, I just have to trick myself into not knowing what’s going on 😉
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
It’s so funny how the prettier the jar/plate/linen is, the more I want to steal whatever it is you’re eating. 🙂
Sarah says
Do you ever put granola in the fridge overnight for overnight oats instead of rolled oats?
KathEats says
No I haven’t done that
Nikki T says
Can’t wait to see what the surprise is!! I just hope it can ship to Canada 😉 !!
Dee says
Hey Kath – do you think you guys would consider selling your Cville Granola online?
KathEats says
That’s what the hint is about..
Dee says
Yay!!! Can’t wait!
Kelsey @ My Search of Summer says
I love that jar the oats are in! Is the coffee mug still available anywhere?
KathEats says
Not that I know of
Lindsay says
Ahh I really hope you are considering selling the cville cluster, pancake mix, and oatmeal online! I’d love to order some!
Heather says
If you are selling/shipping them I will take one of each! They look fabulous!!

Stephanie @ Food and Fitness 4 Real says
I always love how I feel after an early morning run too, but this morning I skipped my run because I was up waaaayy too late last night. I had a good reason though, I was at a concert with my husband at the House of Blues and we had a great time. Now I have to fit my run in on my lunch break.
Your pictures are great and they made me crave some oatmeal with blueberries. Love both the jar and the coffee mug too.
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
4 miles ia great start to any day! I love your mug.. so colorful 🙂
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
Your breakfast looks so fun! I love all of your coffee mugs, bowls, jars, spoons, towels, etc. 🙂

Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots says
Those oats look delicious!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says

Cait @ Urban Fencepost says
Your coffee cup is super cute! Now you have me craving oatmeal with blueberries!
Julie H. says
Oooo, I think you just started a jar revolution with the way that one looks. It is so UNIQUE and CUTE!
Hillary says
That jar is fantastic. I’ve started collecting jars every chance I can get!
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Fog makes everything more interesting 🙂 Good thing you had such a yummy breakfast waiting for you at home!!
Sarah @ The Strength of Faith says
The 50mm is a tough one to shoot food with. The 1.8 is such a neat effect, but it makes the focusing hard. When I shoot food, I try to keep it at 2.8 (which you could do with the 35mm but not the stock lens) and I usually always manually focus because the auto focus goes nuts at times. My next purchase might be the 35mm … you have me pretty convinced …
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
Ohh, your bakery will be carrying granola! Can’t wait to hear more.
KathEats says
The bakery already carries granola! I’ve been eating it everyday for a month straight!
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
Cool oats in a jar are the best – I had my first one this morning! I love that soaking them in soy milk overnight gives them a touch of sweetness, and creaminess. Loading it with fruit is great too.
Jennifer says
I absolutely LOVE that cup! Where did you get that? Enjoy your morning off. 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I love that jar! I’m such a junkie for old school dishes and bottles! Breakfast looks delicious!
Emilee says
I just opened my yahoo email, and there was an add for Open Sky with your picture 🙂
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the two different lenses. I often consider buying another lens for my camera, but I would never know what to buy.
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
That jar is SO pretty, i’m on the hunt for cute ones right now
Nice to know about the lenses, i’ve always wondered what you use!
Can’t wait to see what comes of those bags of yumminess 🙂

Ooooh Cville Cluster Granola! That’s got me excited.. and hungry!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I don’t think I’ve ever gone on an early morning run without planning it first! If I know it’s coming, I usually feel ready. If I don’t plan it, I’ll never go either 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
whoa how did you eat out of that jar?! Looks cool, though.
KathEats says

I kind of like running in the elements! It adds a bit of fun to regular runs and makes them more interesting.
Coco says
I am dying to try that cinnamon raisin oatmeal! Unfortunately, down here in good old Clemson, there is no Great Harvest :(. Huge fail!
Namaste Gurl says
Have you ever used cottage cheese instead of yogurt for overnight oats? Mmmm, cheesy berry oats 🙂 HIgh protein, too!
KathEats says
I haven’t. I’m a bit weird about cottage cheese. Love it sometimes. Don’t love it others. I think the texture would get to me in OO.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I am literally so excited to see what those goodies above mean!! I have a jar similar to that one too! it always makes breakfast seem a bit more fancy with it haha!!
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says

Cori says
Gah I wish I lived near your bakery! All I want is to be able to try everything you always talk about. Man. Looks good!
Jennifer says
I’ve dreamt about you (and Matt) twice now. Just me in your life doing regular things (going to your bakery, etc). Hopefully this doesn’t seem creepy and stalker-ish (I live in CT so I can’t stalk anything but your blog). I think it might be because I read my google reader on my iphone in bed before I go to sleep some nights. So now I feel like I’ve met you (last night it was one of those very realistic dreams where you really feel like it was real–despite being sort of a regular, every day sort of experience).
KathEats says
🙂
Julie says
Hey, don’t feel bad, the same thing happened to me the other night. I was reading blogs right before bed and then had a dream Kath announced on her blog that she was really 72 years old. I was like WHAT????!!!!???? and immediately started scrutinizing all of her photos. She claimed clean leaving was the explanation for her youthful appearance. Go figure.
Julie says
*living (not leaving)
Mom says
Gosh if Kath is 72, that makes me REALLY old…
Julie says
I read your comment mid-sip and now have water up my nose!
Mom says
Yep, I love the blog and all of you readers, but I’m already feeling old. I can’t be that old yet!
Jennifer says
Glad I’m not the only one!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Wow, the oats sound amazing and I wished I lived near your bakery too, the granola sounds wonderful!
Rebecca says
YOU ARE SELLING YOUR GRANOLA ONLINE? I think I just died of joy. Please please please…I am SOLD already 🙂 Haha, blueberry and yogurt is one of my favorite combinations. Lately I’ve been in a rut of blueberries and watermelon with yogurt and cereal. Not that I mind or anything. Got to take advantage of fresh summer fruit when it’s here.
Angel7 says
I think I will make an iced coffee now, since it is hot and it sounds good 🙂

Katherine says
Loving the jar! And the oat mixture 🙂
karin says
You ran 16?
KathEats says
?? I ran 4.16?
Sophie says
Oh that is such a pretty jar!
The contents sound pretty good too, might have to make an appearance in my breakfast in the near future. I have been a keen reader for ages now, I’ve never commented before but now I have my own blog I can join in properly :-). I love your blog, I wish I could visit your bakery, it all looks so yummy!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
I love the decorative jar!!! I have an empty PB jar so I am going to have my first oats in a jar soon…. Kinda excited!! Any tips?
KathEats says
Overnight oats are the best in it! And find a long spoon 🙂
Sonnett says
this jar’s contents look so yummy! i want to find out from you if there is ANY possible way i can buy your clusters, mixes etc from the GH range although i am halfway around the world… is it possible to transfer you the amount and after you have confirmation ship me some? seems like the only way , seeing that i cannot do purchases via OpenSky? i am interrested in quite few products and would like to be able to support your business 🙂
KathEats says
And I would love to sell them to you. But I just don’t know logistically if we could make it work. I just don’t think Matt and I are ready to start shipping. I’ve gotten a lot of requests and feel that I’d have to honor them all.
I’m sorry!
Brittany says
Looks delicious, and the photography is a big part of that!!
I have been wanting to try overnight oats for the longest time, but I havent yet. Im still nervous!
katie @KatieDid says
I’ve been doing some research about lenses and have learned that 50mm is popular for food photography so it’s interesting to read your perspective. I’ve also heard some awesome things about the 35mm before as well so I’m diving in to some more reviews and forums to come up with a decision, but thanks for sharing!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Hats off to you that you have the energy to wake up and run 4 miles so often!
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee says
Your dishes are beautiful!!!! I’m finally allowed to run again!!!! 🙂 I went to the surgeon who said that running won’t cause a dry socket at this point, so yay!!!
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
I wondered if the hint was about online sales! I sure hope so! 🙂 I don’t know if you are allowed to tell me this but does CVille Cluster have walnuts in it?
KathEats says
Yes it does 🙁
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
Darn I’m allergic. Oh well–I bet there are plenty of walnut free things I could try instead! 🙂
Joanne says
Foggy runs are nice but wondering whether or not the cars see you gets a little scary. It sure beats the sun shining down in full force.
Good run and DELICIOUS eats.
Heidi - apples under my bed says
How pretty do your OIAL look?! I love it 🙂
Heidi xo
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I love coming home to OIAJ after a run! It’s so nice to just be able to grab it and eat. 😀

Angela says
I have to agree with others your jar collection is so cool!
