Hello from the Bojangles’ eating area at Charlotte Douglas Airport!! Our airport is the coolest because we have FREE WI-FI and rocking chairs 🙂 And lots of good eats – including the only Jamba Juice for hundreds of miles! I always try to get one when I travel. I planned today’s to be part of my lunch. I got a Strawberry Banana one. I like Jamba a lot, but it’s no Smoothie King!
The rest: a smallish peanut butter + pumpkin butter sandwich and some carrots.
And I’ve got this guy:
Plus trail mix and bars galore for snacks
You may be wondering how my smoothie fits into the Thanksgiving Challenge. Well, this is a business trip for me. KERF is a small business! And we were given some funds to get us to and from our homes for taxis, luggage fees, etc. There’s just enough to cover some airport food and a few weekend cocktails 😉 Since I did not choose this trip for leisure, I think it’s fair to put the meals I have out toward my “client.” But I did bring most of my lunch, and you can be sure the husband is following all the rules at home – he’s got his 5 lb bag of potatoes to play with this weekend and will be grocery shopping for the coming week as well.
This morning’s organic test was somewhat of a disaster 🙁 Seriously. I was quite upset when I left and luckily my prof told me there would probably be a curve. I hope it’s a big one. I was very prepared for this test, but it was just that. hard. Thanks so much for all of your nice comments and wishes this morning though!
Gotta go do my Foodservice School Lunch Menu while I wait for my flight. Hopefully I can work a mile high as well.
PS. The couple beside me is typing an email in Japanese (or at least I am pretty sure that’s what it is)! She’s logged into Yahoo but her keyboard is set to Japanese. So cool!
See you in the Windy City!

Have fun on your trip!

I’m so excited to meet you and everyone else tonight! I feel like such a stalker right now, practically spying on you in real time here. Ah well–I think you like it.
Chicago has its sun out right now for you 🙂

Have fun on your ‘business’ trip 😉

Organic was so difficult for me, too. Just hang in there!!
Katie says
YAY! Jamba Juice is my favez!! Luckily for my wallet we don’t live by one anymore. 🙂
Aartee says
For a second I thought you were going to say your lunch was Bojangles! They don’t have them up here and I LOVE the french fries!
zestycook says
Have a great time Kath! Yay for free wifi!!
Beadie says
Have a safe trip!
Runeatrepeat says
I am personally offended that you like Smoothie King more than Jamba Juice! I lalalove Jamba 🙂 I have not found another smoothie place that compares. What is so great about smoothie king anyways?
Erin says
I’m sorry about your exam. That class sounds horrific.
ashley (sweet & natural) says
Yay Chicago! Say hello to the city for me! 🙂
Anne L says
Hi Kath-do not feel discouraged about orgo! I took that class as a pre-med science major in undergrad–WHY do they have to make the class and exams so difficult? Our class averages were in the 60’s and 70’s, and I was taking the class with some extremely bright people.
I will see you at Bin 36 tonight and we will definitely have a drink to celebrate another one of your exams being out of the way. Can’t wait to meet you!
DaisyMay says
im going to get in on the smoothie kick and say that ROBEKS beats them all hands down!
VeggieGirl says
Miss Gliding Calm is a fan of the PB-Pumpkin sandwiches as well 😀
Don’t worry about the exam!! It’s over, and I’m sure you did fine. Enjoy yourself this weekend!!
Santa Barbara Dreaming says
haha! I worked at Jamba for two years. While I was working, I got over smoothies, but as soon as I quit, I was craving smoothies left and right! haha.
Have a nice “business” trip, have an enjoyable flight!
Natalie says
My favorite part of that airport is sitting in the rocking chairs and fiddling with my computer! If I have to make a connection, my preference is always Charlotte.
Have fun on your trip!!
JJ125 says
Yeah Smoothie King rules…. Colorado can’t seem to keep them in business though which is very sad 🙁 I find Jamba Juice to be too sweet and not as real-tasting as SK.
Halie says
Heeey Jamba Jamba!
Yum eats! When I travel I can’t eat for some reason! I can only sip lots and lots of water.
Safe tarvels! I’m sure you did better than you think on that test! But you’ve got that behind you and an awesome weekend in front of you!
Moran says
Sorry about the test, Kath! At least you got it out of your way and now you can enjoy your weekend!!!
Jennifer says
It’s SO good to see someone eat PB/nut better more than once a day! I love PB so much, but I’ve always worried I was overdoing it by having it more than once a day.
Thanks for the affirmation!!!
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter) says
Jamba Juice was the first smoothie place that I ever tried! I like it alot more than Robek’s (something that we have in CT)! I have not found any good smoothie places in Philly yet, any suggestions?!
Have a safe flight!
And Jennifer-I used to be afraid of peanut butter, but now I have learned to to incorporate it about 3-4 times a day in my caloric range and well, it’s a beautiful thing anyone can do it!
Betsy in Pittsburgh says
Pshh smoothies? The Pittsburgh airport has a Ben & Jerry’s smack dab in the middle of the food court. I can never resist a phish food milkshake.
Oh She Glows says
*runs and hides because she’s never bought a smoothie before*
Jennifer says
seelee live- 3-4 times a day??? BEAUTIFUL!!! Seriously, the thought excites me.
Vanessa says
Mmmm Jamba Juice!! Sunrise Strawberry is my favorite 🙂 And once I won a free Jamba Juice Office party and they brought 50 smoothies to my place of work. So I like them!
And I’ve really enjoyed your blog over the past few weeks. I even bought Pumpkin butter as a result.
Michelle says
I LOVE Bin 36! I always make it to point to go there when in Chicago. Enjoy!!
Diana says
Hi Kath! I’ve never commented before, but I love reading your blog—and as for O-chem, hang in there! I took it in undergrad, and there was definitely one exam when the class average was a 47 (yup, 47!) and needless to say, there was a major curve. Have fun in Chicago this weekend (I’m jealous, it’s such a great city!)
jenner says
have a great flight Kath! I hope you really enjoy this weekend, you have totally earned every minute of it!
mi says

Oh Kath, the weather is awful today! It’s so cold and gross outside right now. PLEASE don’t base your opinion of our amazing and perfect city on this weekend’s nasty weather!

Ack! I’m sorry about your exam too! 🙁
However a whole weekend around oats will be fabbo! Have fun!

Here’s hoping for a major curve!!!!

Rocking chairs in an airport? That is genius!! 😀
MKM says
Oh, don’t worry about the curve, Kath, I’m sure you’ll be fine! 🙂
My organic class has a crazy curve, too! Last exam, a 79/125 was the highest A minus!!!!
WendyF says
Sorry to hear about your exam. I really like Jamaba Juice :-)..there is one by my gym which is kind of dangerous…..5 lbs of potatoes…will there be any gnocchi making this weekend?
Have a great trip!
Lisa says
Yay Jamba Juice! We don’t have them in Ohio, but when I took a super-quick trip to Chicago a couple of years ago (College Jeopardy! tryouts), I had one for lunch. And one later for a snack!
Erin says
I guess South Jersey doesn’t feel we deserve a smoothie stop….I was always the weird one that got the vegetable jamba juices, haha.
Kath, have fun on your trip! I can’t wait to see all the pictures!!!!!
Megan says
Love all your traveling snacks!
Maureen says
Sorry to hear about your organic test! I’ve been though many an Orgo test/exam where the class average is below 50 and I rode to curve up to a decent grade. Have fun on your trip!
