Tonight gave me some practice working on flexibility š
I started to get hungry while at work around 5pm and had a Clif bar to tide me over. I knew dinner was a loong way out, but this guy seemed to do the trickā¦for a while.
We headed up to Huntersville here Mary works at a health center once a month. She had four 15-minute consultations scheduled, so I got to sit in on those. I really like working with people thus far š
About halfway through, though, I started to get REALLY hungry. And it was frigid in the office. Hunger + cold make me an unhappy camper! I tried to keep smiling thoughā¦.
Then we went directly into a small nutrition seminar for a few of the patients. We chatted about balanced eating and answer>ed many of their questions. By this point my hunger was shooting pains in my side (although I seemed to have skipped the growling stage?!) And the room had gotten colder š But I still enjoyed it. Just wish Iād planned to have a bigger lunch or snack this afternoon knowing dinner would be late.
We were finished around 8:15, and I headed out. I was about 30 minutes from home and while I had mixed nuts and a banana in my car, I didnāt think I wanted to wait any longer for a hot dinner. So I used my AroundMe app on my iPhone to research the nearby food choices. SO CONVENIENT!!! It would have been fun to fine dine alone, but I knew I shouldnāt spend the time or money. Luckily there was a Panera right around the corner!
But when I pulled up to Panera it looked awfully cold compared to this:
So I headed to Mooooooeeeeās! I was totally in the mood for warm rice + beans.
I got a vegetarian burrito with pinto beans, rice, lettuce, green peppers, jalapenos and cheese.
A tortilla on the side
And my free basket of chips (he gave me free queso because I said it was my first time)
Salsa!
I ended up eating most of my burrito bowl, half the chips and half the tortilla. I focused on just eating a ānormalā amount as if I were at home. And it was perfect. It tasted like real food and I ate until I was just satisfied, not full.
I came home to find a surprise on my desk! After 3 days together, I didnāt get to see Matt today š
I have no idea what this was or where it came from, but it tasted good! (I think Karen brought it over since they had dinner together)
Iām tired and am going in earlier tomorrow, so I better get my beauty rest.
Nite!

Ooo. I love Moe’s. Hunger and cold are two of my biggest crabbiness triggers. Sorry it was so miserable!
Elizabeth says
Oooh – my favorite Cliff! š Moe’s looks pretty tasty as well!
Glad you are enjoying work so far. Any tips for finding a good, reputable RD my own area? I know that you won’t have any personal recommendations, but what should I be looking for in terms of background/training/etc? I know a lot of people advertise themselves as qualified ‘nutritionists’ when they aren’t.
Thanks Kath!
Katherine says
Aw so cute to find a surprise by your computer. Sleep well!
Deva says
Moe’s is one of my favorite places to get food when out- I love their tofu!
DC says
It’s so weird to see you eat “fast food!” It looks delicious though.
Anna says
Oooo there is a Moe’s near me, but I’ve never been because I didn’t really know what it was all about. Looks good, though!
PS check out my giveaway!

Welcome to MOE’S!!!
Hate when I get too hungry…but looks like you did good despite being ravenous!
And what a lovely treat to come home to. YUMM!!!
Michelle Hisae says
Ugh, I hate when that sort of hunger comes around. And it’s all you can think about. My body is screaming…PUT SOMETHING INSIDE ME!! Rice and beans was a great choice!!!!
Layne says
I’ve never been to Moe’s – looks yummy!

Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Yikes, it’s so hard to concentrate when major hunger pains strike. Glad you were able to still enjoy the work. I guess it’s all a part of figuring out this new schedule and working around it to fit your needs.
Sounds like a great “hot” dinner to warm you right up! And that was so sweet of Matt to leave you the treat. What a sweetheart! š
Hope you get a good night’s rest!
Bec says
I get cranky too when I dont eat for a while, glad you enjoyed the meetings with clients though!
Sues says
I hear so much about Moe’s but we don’t have any around here! Sounds like a fun day!!
Caroline says
So sorry to hear about your experiences with hunger pains–no fun! At least you ended up with some Moe’s. I love getting a burrito bowl with tofu and guac:)
Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) says
I have never been to Moe’s or Panera, and I have both fairly close by.
I think that “treat” was left by your garage critters. They want revenge.
Ali says
what a nice surprise š and your burrito bowl looks yummm
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Hunger makes me extremely irritable, good job on toughing it out. I’ve been to Moe’s one time when in Atlanta; the burrito was huuuuuuuge but sooo good! Now I want one and there’s no Moe’s for hundreds of miles lol.

š Hunger pains + being cold+ not seeing the husband would make me a bit blah too
Debbie Burke says
Welcome to Moe’s! I haven’t been there in a while. Yummy, I need to get there soon.
Susan says
Aww, so sweet he left you a little piece! š
When I’m that hungry, I can’t concentrate on anything else. The only thing that makes it worse is eating a bunch of small snacks when what I really need is a hot meal!
cindy says
Hi Kath-I was wondering have you and the brewmeister tried any “beer floats”? There is an ice cream store in our area that has them on the menu for the summer (made with a stout). I immediately thought of you. Have a good day.
G. says
Oh, Moe’s is the best! Very veggie friendly! Chipotle too, if you have those. And I’ve started stocking Odwalla bars in my drafting table for random hunger pangs.
And I just love your blog. š I photograph my food too, along with a few foodie friends. Most folks think we’re weird, but we don’t care. lol! Thanks!
Ada says
I am glad you enjoyed your day at work! It must be interesting to meet clients individually.
Mara @ What's For Dinner? says
I’ve got to get myself to Moe’s and soon! When you mentioned last night that you were going, suddenly, all I wanted was a burrito!!!
Rachel (Rachel's Work Bites) says
Moes is so yummy! I love their queso! I usually get the kid’s meals when I go, they are small and not too bad for you!
Melissa @ For the Love of Health says
hunger pains are the worst!! Sorry to hear you suffered through some. It just sucks when you can’t control the environment- at least you know to eat more beforehand now.
I love how Matt leaves you treats. That’s very sweet.
Have a great day!
Danielle says
I went to Moe’s once when i was in Virgina, it was so delicious!
Sarah says
Gosh, I haven’t been to Moe’s in forever! I’m going to have to try that vegetarian burrito bowl, yum š
brandi says
glad you got to have a hot dinner! I’m sure the planning/eating will get easier with the new schedule.
i wish our Moe’s was better or something – we went to one here a few months ago, and it was disgusting. The guac tasted like plastic and nothing else was good.
Johanna B says
The special little treat by your computer must have been a welcome sight. A nice way to finish off your late dinner.
JENNA says
Dinner looks like a nice treat!! YUM! I’ve heard Moe’s are really good! i’ve never been though.
Emily says
Moe’s in awesome! I love how you can customize so much. I usually get the salad option and chips. The salsa is so gooooooood too! I haven’t been since last summer as we don’t eat out often, but when we do have to eat out, I always try to suggest Moe’s!! Interesting fact: A high school/college friend of mine actually did all of the nutritional analysis for Moe’s!!!!!!! Cool, huh? š She also did work for Carvel! She lives in NC too. š
Kath says
Elizabeth ,
You can search for RDs through EatRight.org. I would maybe call a few and ask them what they specialize in. Ask what their food philosophies are.Personality is probably most important!
cindy ,
No, but they sound delish!
Emily ,
How cool!!

Ohhh hohoho Moe’s. We used to have them all over here in Mississippi but then all of them suddenly closed! So sad, because that was definitely our favorite place. You could get a Rubrick and split it with two or three people! Everytime I’m in Atlanta or a place remotely close to one, we always go.
Elizabeth says
Thanks for the tip Kath! That was just the info I was looking for! š
Patty M. says
Moe’s is a great place to get something healthy when you’re out & about! I usually get a salad w/ black beans, guac & veggies. Their tofu is also very good. Maybe someday they’ll carry WW tortillas, that would be fab. We also have a similar, smaller chain called Willi’s here in Atlanta that is also very good & veggie-friendly.
