Everything is rushed on Friday! My alarm went off at 5:02 and I was up at 5:10 (after a few 2-minute snoozes…) My computer stopped me on my way out the door with some emails to read, so I finally made it to the gym at 5:45. While there I did a really nice 45 minutes on the elliptical followed by a round of strength training doing Kelly’s lunges with upper body moves and stability ball pushups and ab work. I added in some more variations to the lunges – instead of just biceps, shoulders, triceps, down, I doubled up my reps, then tripled them on both the way up and down for a harder burn. It was a really effective challenge. I’ve also got something Re. weight training I’ve been meaning to blog about and I haven’t had time! Perhaps tomorrow.
This mornings menu featured a Lovely Dry Cereal complemented with Vanilla Soy Milk, Nuts, Banana and Coconut.
- ~1/2-3/4 a cup each of Kashi GoLean and Quaker Oatmeal Squares
- ~1 cup vanilla soy milk (from Costco) with about 1 tbsp rehydrated raisins heated together until mildly warm
- 1/2 large banana
- A few walnuts pieces
- Sprinkle coconut
- 1 tbsp flax
- Small spoonful PB
+ Chai Coconut Tea
The ambiance…
I actually ate in complete solitude today. Trying to listen to my hunger / satiety cues and all and focus on the flavors of the food. Normally I’d grab something to read or turn on the TV to watch from the other room, but this was rather pleasant and I enjoyed it. Not sure how long it will last, but I’m going to make an effort.

Did you heat up your cereal? I find it makes it more filling and more like oatmeal. YUM!

Isn’t it strange to eat without distraction! It’s almost challenging. =)

wow – I never eat without distraction. For some reason I just really enjoy reading and eating at the same time. I don’t think I enjoy my food as much without a book 🙂
Andrea [bella eats] says
I love that you always have candles with your meals…so serene. And I’m impressed with your quiet breakfast! My breakfast is either eaten hurriedly as I download pictures for the blog, or at my desk in front of the computer. 🙁
Have a great Friday!

I’m amazed at the ambiance you seem to have at every single meal!! I’m lucky if I can clear off my counter enough for a full-plate shot!

Dang it – I missed the Country Bob’s contest. 🙂
I need to try the cold cereal thing with flax and walnuts – I think the added fat is the key to making it stick. Thanks Kath.

Hi Kath! I know you’ve been enjoying these audio yoga classes, but can you recommend a good yoga class with visuals that is also free. I’m a yoga newbie and you’re making it seem so enjoyable and relaxing! I wanna give it a go:)

That cereal mix sounds fabulous!

I would like to second Jaime’s question about Yoga. I take the yoga stretch class at the Y, so I am familiar with some of the positions but would love to learn more.
Also, can you tell me why you add the flax? I see this on several of the blogs I read…what are the benefits?
Thanks!

Today on the Austin morning news, they were talking about healthy breakfasts. The example they gave was Steel cut oatmeal, berries with a spoonful of PB. I thought of your blog instantly:)
Course YOUR recipes are much more yummy!

Jaime ,
I don’t really have any recommendations for visual yoga that’s free online. Yoga Today does have some, but I wasn’t really a fan of the style. YogaDownload is great for beginners if you do the Beginner ones and study the PDF pose guide beforehand. Try Gentle Hatha I first.
MaryBe ,
You can find out about the benefits of flax by Googling it, but I like it for both it’s health benefit and it’s texture. I like how it’s nutty, a little crunchy (when you grind it coarsely) and the grittiness.
Sarah (lovINmytummy),
I said in the post I heated the milk until warm.
Fancy ,
The Knot!! For our wedding. It was the local Carolinas one.
brooke ,
I just have a few big chugs from my water bottle. If you must eat, just play around with snacks until you find one you like.
Samara ,
I don’t even know – I got it for $20 on Craig’s List. It’s probably from Target or something.

Hi Kath- You have to tell me, how do you manage to only eat one spoonful (any tiny at that!) of PB?! If I have one, I end up going back for more, and usually dark chocolate chips, to boot!
jen says
