We are livin’ it up outside these days, and we recently took a family trip out to the Monticello Trail for a family nature hike. The weather was perfection (if anything a little hot!) and the sun was shining hard.
Since little legs don’t walk super fast, we took the opportunity to point out different flowers, trees, and plants along the way.
If only I knew all the species by their botanical names!
Mazen had fun running through different plants along the trail.
Although we did stop to study a few!
He kept saying “We’re on a hike!” the whole time.
Once he was sweaty and red in the face, we plopped down for a lovely picnic in the shade.
We restocked the Sargento Balanced Breaks snacks, and we used this trip for an opportunity to enjoy them on a third outing. [See my other two Balanced Breaks snacks posts for more details on them!]
The little snack trays come in 4 different flavors and feature natural cheese and a mix of dried fruit and nuts.
*Each snack tray has a maximum of 5 grams saturated fat.
We had the Natural Sharp White Cheddar Cheese, sea-salted cashews and golden raisin medley this day. Matt said during our lunch: “These really do make such a good picnic food.” Portability + good taste + a balanced nutritious blend make an awesome combo.
We also packed fresh local strawberries tossed with basil, pineapple, chickpeas tossed in some olive oil and herbs, hummus and veggies and my favorite Everything crackers
De. Licious.
Thanks to Sargento Foods for sponsoring and inspiring our hike and picnic!

OMG! He looks so grown!! 🙁 No more baby face. He’s officially a little big kid! 🙁
I’m sad about this and he isn’t even mine! haha.

So CUTE!
It’s funny – since my Mr. Science has a background in dendroecology, he actually know the Latin name for plants more often than he knows the common name for things. Love it 🙂
Neat snack pack idea, too!
