I spent the morning sipping tea and working on my outline for my Foodservice paper. Blah! But I did get to enjoy this yummy loose leaf tea that Alex from Chicago gave me. I had no tea strainer and just got this little spoon guy yesterday –
I have also been admiring the modern new shower curtain my mom got me yesterday for our powder bath. It totally makes the den peeking out from the bathroom! Thanks mom!
Andrew surfaced (he spend the night at his friends’) and came over to shower with Karen around 1pm. Then we all headed to lunch at M5 to wish him bon voyage back to New Orleans.
We ordered some pita bread + hummus to start. They have the BEST pita bread! Doughy and hot out of the oven –
I also had a little of Karen + Andrew’s Caesar salad –
I debated ordering the Spinach + Goat Cheese Salad and a cup of Squash + Apple Soup but I decided to order something I wouldn’t normally order to be different – a “SPT” – Salmon, Pancetta + Tomato Sandwich. It was good, but way too oily for my taste and left me wanting more healthy bites. I didn’t even think to ask for it without condiments and butter and for some reason was picturing a flat sandwich instead of a huge bun. Guess I get what I always get for a reason, and I don’t order sandwiches enough to remember all of the tricks to make them lighter (like requesting the bun “dry”) But it was still good. It came with a little salad (I asked for “extra salad” and am not sure where that was…) and really fancy crispy fries.
I ate the whole sandwich open-faced without the top half of the bun –
And about 5 of the fries –
Plus I had a bite of the husband’s grilled cheese + tomato soup (he met us on his work break – just typed bread by accident!)
I wasn’t really planning a big lunch today, but I got a big lunch! We’re just planning a low-key evening at home tonight, so I’ll have something fresh and simple.
Off to crank out this paper. I just realized that if I just type it up and get it over with I can relax tonight so I’m on a mission to finish it ASAP!

I did the whole touristy vacation with my family when I was in high school, but that was years ago. Maybe we’ll see each other!

Kath, I was just wondering if you ever experience any “guilt” feelings after overeating/overindulging. I know you don’t do it often and you concentrate on living a healthy lifestyle, but when you do eat more, do you feel upset by it?
Mary says
Hi Kath! I’m a student at tulane…it would be fun if we could meet up when you come down!

What a cool presentation for the fries! I’ve never seen such elegant looking fries. mmm.
You have such a beautifully decorated house with really cool colored walls! I really find it fascinating! I like your style.
Good luck on that paper!
katieP says
yes! maybe so! there are many cute diners in the tulane area! 🙂
Kath says
Marisa ,
It depends on the situation. After a fancy Thanksgiving dinner with my family where I enjoyed everything I ate with pleasure, I wouldn’t feel guilty at all (knowing I’d be back on track in a jiffy) but I do sometimes feel guilty if I just stuff my face at a buffet and can’t even remember the desserts I ate or eat too much while I’ve been drinking. But even on those days/nights, I know that all it takes to get back on track is a fresh start the next day, so it’s not a big deal.
Mary ,
Definitely! Let’s get in touch in April 🙂

Kath, Thanks for a look inside the “maintaining mind”! I’m still in weight loss mode, so I do have the “guilts” when I’m not on program. I’m looking forward to that new maintenance mindset!!
Elina says
I hardly ever order sandwiches at restaurants but I never thought of ordering them “dry”… great idea! I always say no “mayo” or whatever else sounds fattening but yeah, I guess they sneak in butter in there sometimes with no warnings 🙂 I’ll remember this little trick next time! Thanks, Kath!

Kath, your bathroom is so pretty. You should take more pictures of the house…. I’m trying to get decorating ideas. Love the new antique chairs too.

Those fries look wonderful. Eating only 5 must have been quite the exercise in restraint.
