I love having company and entertaining (we’ve talked about opening a B&B as a wild future idea before), but I don’t realize how much it wears me out until I am by myself in my house. I sent the padres on their way this morning – but not before I fed them some more oatmeal!!
My dad NEVER eats breakfast. He only does when he goes to a B&B or when brunch is the planned event of the day. He’s just a big lunch + dinner person. But somehow I convinced him to have a bowl of oatmeal this morning! He said he “enjoyed it very much.”
Here’s his half portion of whipped banana oats topped with coconut butter, coconut flakes, flax, raisins, Maple Nut ProBar, and Honey Cinnamon PB –
My bowl was the same, just a bigger portion. I rarely cut back on breakfast on recovery days after a weekend of overeating – but I do try to keep lunch + dinner extra healthy. A day with a simple plain bowl of oats just wouldn’t be exciting.
The husband put leftover whipped cream on his oats and a dollop appeared in my bowl!!
With a half cup of coffee (my dad stole my cup!!) Ah geez, that photo is blurry!
The husband wanted to workout before he went into EarthFare today so we went to the gym together this morning first thing. I got in a sweaty 40 minutes on the ET followed by a heart-pumping (I just typed pumpkin!!) set of weight lifting: biceps, shoulders, pushups, squats, lunges (jumping).
I’ve got a long to-do list and a rainy day ahead of me and am sipping some tea while I start this big Foodservice paper. Andrew is due at the airport later this afternoon and I might be joining him and Karen for lunch, but our plans are up in the air at the moment. His suitcase is here but we don’t know where he is after going out with friends last night!
Hope all of you have a relaxing holiday weekend!

Yay for oatmeal! And yay for your dad trying it! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I find it hard to understand when people skip it.

Hey kath, made some Bob’s Red Mill wheatberries last night. i added them to my oats this morning and i am so grateful that I did! you are so right, they do add a great “chew” factor–and they were so easy to make! I have them stored in a tupperware container now in my fridge and i plan on bringing them back to school with me.
good luck on the paper-i’ve got some work to do, too!
Have a nice day!

Have you ever stayed at a B&B? They are all so different and can be so enchanting. Ted and I have also talked about opening a B&B when we’ve had enough of the corporate world! I think if you really enjoy something and you aren’t going to school, dealing with a 40+ hour a week job, etc., then it might be truly enjoyable. Our dream is somewhere in the Napa or Sonoma Valleys… gotta keep on dreamin’ !

Hi Kath!
I just had an idea for oatmeal this morning and I thought I would share it with you. Have you ever thought about or had a gingerbread cookie version? Like with added mollasses, ground ginger, nutmeg, allspice with candied ginger pieces or crumbled gingersnaps on top? Maybe with some creamcheese frosting;) Anyway, I thought I would pass the idea along since I have no idea how it would taste and you seem like the adventerous type!

Kath, I just wanted to know that I found your blog recently and started reading it and i’m hooked!! The food you eat sounds so delicious and I admire how you eat healthily and promote healthy eating and exercise instead of quick fad diets. Also, i’m going to try your oatmeal recipe because I love oatmeal and it sounds absoutely delicious! Thanks so much!

Laura,
You’ve got mail.
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter),
Yay!! I need to make some more!
AppleC ,
Yes, we’ve stayed in lots of them. I much prefer them to a hotel. Sonoma would be my choice too!! Or at least in one of the wine regions 🙂
Megan ,
I’m not a huge fan of ginger, although I do love gingerbread things….and I think gingersnaps + icing sounds awesome!! I’ll just have to bake some after my finals and incorporate them that way 🙂
Jessica ,
Thanks and welcome!
