I finally s-wiched it up! (Get it, sandwich, switched!?!)
I decided I was in the mood for turkey today and did a build-your-own panini. I decided on the following:
- Foccacia bread
- Smoked turkey
- 1/2 a slice of pepper jack
- Tomato
- Sprouts
- Cuc
- Dijon mustard
I have to say, I was kind of disappointed in my sandwich. I thought “panini” meant “grilled sandwich” but despite asking for it to be grilled, it was ice cold in the middle. I also think next time I need some hummus or pesto or something with more flavor and less veggies because I couldn’t taste the pepperjack cheese at all.
I immediately packed up half to save for later because I got a small salad too and know bready sandwiches like this clock in pretty caloric. (Yes, I used my hair band to hold it together – and then went to get a brown bag to carry it in).
(OMG a HUGE bug just crawled up the wall beside me – I thought it was a spider!!!)
My salad was all veggies plus sweet potato and pineapple. The rest: lettuce, spinach, broccoli slaw, carrots, grated carrots, green beans, sprouts, beets.
Plus tea in my to-go cup. Today’s was Egyptian Mint.
And 2 ginger cookie samples for dessert (DElish!)
I’m still feeling a little hungry, so hopefully things will settle soon or I’m going back for more sandwich!!
Off to catch up on blogs + emails before I make the trek back to campus.

That sandwich certainly does look good, but I would be disappointed if my “panini” wasn’t even warm in the middle. Just kind of ruins the meal and almost makes it unsatisfying when something isn’t as expected.
Hope the rest of your day goes well!

I would love a ginger snap cookie right now. Those pieces look moist and delicious!

what’s up with that? paninis are definitely supposed to be grilled – and hot! still looks good though, since we can’t see the cold!

I’m always to nervous to s-wich it up when I go to Whole Foods – I love the salad bar too much!
Your dessert looks yummy 🙂

WOW, sweet potatoes and ginger cookies… those are two of my favorite things ever… you’re a lucky lady!!! Sometimes I make mashed sweet potatoes with candied ginger, chopped prunes, golden raisins, and a little butter and pepper/salt mixed in. It’s suuuuper good =)

FYI… “panini” actually just means sandwich in Italian. Only us Americans expect them all to have nice little grill marks all over them. Just something I learned in my Italian language class last year. 🙂

Maybe if the sandwich wasn’t so thick? I bet it will be good heated up at home though!
One more day til the weekend!

Haha, at “s-wiched it up!” So cute!
Good idea using your hair band to hold the sandwich together!
I bet the leftover half would taste real good if you grilled it at home! Then you can make sure that everything is all nice and hot!

Another “panini” fact…Two panini, one panino. Fancy that, eh?!

The panini and the salad looks delicious! I too have a problem with not being able to taste the cheese i put on my sandwiches=/
Katelyn says
That’s too bad the sandwich didn’t heat through…though a nice deli sandwich is def. one of my favorites.
Were the sweet potatoes warm or cold?

ooh, grilling the other half at home = good idea!
i agree that a cold sandwich doesn’t really fit my definition of ‘panini’, but it looks yum.
HangryPants says
So sorry the panini was cold! I always need to wrap up my sandwich first if I want to save any!
Yummy cookie samples!

So this is my first comment, even though I’m a loyal reader for a while now! I have a blog but I’m not doing pictures at the moment…. I was curious: as a blogger, if YOU were in the market for a new camera, what features would you be most interested in?
BTW, cold or not, that sandwich looked pretty delish!
Maureen says
Oooh, I love that salad!! Good technique on the sandwich, I always feel bad about asking the waiter to do that, but maybe they shouldn’t put 5 servings of pasta/bread in every dish!!
Hey Kath, do you think we could blog-roll each other? 🙂
Kath says
Anne ,
All you need is a Macro setting!! But check yesterday’s morning post for some reader recommendations.

I second Meghann, I want an EarthFare too!! The nearest one to me is in G’boro, which is a good 20 miles away, booo– way too far to drive when there’s a Whole Foods and Fresh Market in town. 🙁

Kath & other cold bikers/outdoor exercisers~!
I got these convertible running gloves/mittens
http://180s.com/pages/catalog_view.aspx?g=1%2c3&y=2&i=92&c=18
and foldable behind-the-ear earmuffs (which fit under a helmet) http://180s.com/pages/catalog_view.aspx?g=1%2c3&y=7&i=84&c=1
that have made running in the winter soo much more enjoyable for me… not sure why the website says they’re not available right now, but I’ve seen 180s brand stuff at the Sports Authority, among other places…
