So tired. Must post quickly.
GOTR was great today. We took them “out on a run” in the neighborhood instead of just running in the field. Some complained and dragged, but I’d say a third of them liked it and did really well. The change of scenery was certainly good. I ran about a mile before practice to track a route, then another 2.5-3 with the girls, then another 2.5-3 with my coach. Score on the activity today!
I went to the YMCA to shower afterwards and was a bit rushed to get to dinner, so I ate my apple in the car. Here’s me at a stoplight –
I also packed a ham + hummus + romaine sandwich on High 5 bread –
But the spotlight was on the Chobani (literally!) with Quaker Squares
Dark, dark student lounge! It was a very filling combo of foods despite the small appearance.
And despite all my jibber jabber about the Thanksgiving Challenge this morning, I stopped into Trader Joe’s to get oranges for Girls on the Run and saw that bananas were $.19 each. So I splurged $.40 and got two 😳
Once home from lab (it was our last real one – the rest are projects and tests!!) I snacked on a bit of the pumpkin scuffin. It was just like a pumpkin muffin but flat in shape.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Oh She Glows says
Don’t ya just love how cheap bananas are?? I wish all fruit was that cheap!!
Justy2003 says
Bananas are a staple in your household, so I think it’s okay that you “splurged” your $.40 and got some 😉
And that pumpkin scuffin looks so good! I love pumpkin muffins, so I can only imagine this was just as good!
Mara says
I want a scuffin!
I’m also going to have to try cereal in my single leftover Chobani for breakfast tomorrow!
Megan says
Yeah for cheap bananas and scuffins!
Krista says
You must be relieved to have bananas back in your life! Oats just aren’t the same without them!!
Amy says
i love when bananas are really cheap. but i hate how they charge 75 cents or more at little cafes and student coffee bars on campus. annoying?! yes. the pumpkin scuffin like scrumpsh.
Madison says
i just bought .19 cent bananas too! =P
i have to buy them extra extra green though…don’t like ripe bananas!
Halie says
GOTR sounds like a lot of fun, and a lot of work! Worth it though.
Glad you didn’t fall asleep mid-post! Have a pleasant evening!

Hi Kath! I’ve been following Jenna’s and your blogs since your Quaker trip..I love the good nutrional foods you guys talk about and love the pictures, too! I thought I would stop in and finally say hi! And I also had a question about Barney Butter…you have me totally interested in ordering some now, haha. I am natural peanut butter LOVER so I bet i’d really like this, too. But my question is about the free shipping code…is that just for a certain amount of time or can I use that code at any time? thanks!
Lisa says
When I worked at a local grocery store, the PLU code for bananas was the first one the cashiers learned – 49. Really, when it comes to cheap nutrition, it doesn’t get better than a banana. Though oats are pretty economical, too.

Firls on the run sounds like a really great program! Do they have it all over?
I don’t love dim lounges 🙁 Something about dim lighting. I know it’s “mood” lighting, but it’s actually been proven that people consume More- plus, I like to see and appreciate how Amazing my food Always looks (har har)
Charlie Hills says
Was that the end of your post, Kath? Or did you actually fall asleep before you were finished?
emmy says
all your bread talking is making me jealous – opposite of your situation, our thanksgiving challenge has currently put us out of bread!
Runeatrepeat says
I always get naners from TJ’s or Costco, they can be cheap if you know where to go. I wish they had a Girls on the Run around me. I checked the site and they don’t, boo.
Maggie says
Going off of Lisa’s comment… When I worked at a grocery store it was 4011. I can’t believe I still remember that. I worked at Wegmans in 10th grade. If something is organic you put a 9 in front, so organic bananas would be 94011.
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter) says
Bananas at my school cafeteria cost 1.00. And the weirdest thing about it is that they do not weigh it. So I could get the world’s smallest banana, or a huge banana on steroids and I’m still forkin up one buck. CHA CHING!
bobbi says
I wish we had a gotr in my neighborhood, I think I would love it!
haya says
sadly what we pay for bananas doesn’t at all represent their true environmental/social/economical cost to the world.
i have considered giving them up several times but i keep coming back to them! i wish there was an equivalent alternative. i have cut back quite a bit though.

OMG

our Tj’s sale them at 0.19 normally……. ^_^ I guess I live in a cheap city.
Kath says
kristi ,
It is for a limited time, but I don’t know how long. Maybe through the end of 2008? I think it’s more than the next few days for sure, but not forever (unless she makes it forever). Enjoy!
jess ,
I believe it’s nationwide (and international) but not all cities have it. Try http://www.girlsontherun.org.
Charlie Hills,
Ya know, I don’t remember!
MizFit ,
LOL!

Great day, great eats!!

I wish I lived closer to a city… my non-organic bananas cost more than $0.20 a piece. 🙁

hehe…”drive by eating” love it! Although, I have to admit that it reminded my of when my husband and I were dating – he would call and say that he’s on his way for a “drive by hugging”! Thanks Kath
