I feel a bit like a different person this morning…thanks to a dream. I woke up sometime in the 5:00 hour unable to go back to sleep after 30 minutes of tossing and turning (which is more like a sloth’s movements given my current physical state!) and with painful hip aching from sleeping on my side. I eventually got up and did my magical trick: swigged some lemonade. Incredibly, that’s the last thing I remember.
When I woke up for the second time (having slept past my normal wake-up time!) I was in the midst of a crazy dream about our baby. In the dream, I had given birth to him 3 times – once at 26 weeks, 27 weeks and this time was 28 weeks. The first two times Matt and I had looked at him and put him back inside after concluding he wasn’t ready to come out. But this time – at 28 weeks (now basically) – he couldn’t go back in because he was breathing. I panicked and called my doula and she came over and basically helped us welcome what appeared to be a healthy full-term baby into the world. (We couldn’t explain how he seemed to so full term). I started to breastfeed him (which was amazing!!!) and then we realized we had no way to get home (this scene was taking place in a city) so we drove with me in the back of the car nursing him without a carseat. We then realized we had no baby gear, no changing table – nothing – and he had a dirty diaper! I proclaimed that we could just start with cloth diapers, but we had no wipes. I woke up with a very panicked feeling that we just weren’t quite ready to have him yet because we didn’t have any baby stuff and we should head to Babies R Us that afternoon.
Overall, it was a really strange dream because I kind of feel like I “met” my baby last night. So weird. Also I’m guessing these feelings of unpreparedness have to do with both our hospital tour and the To-Do list post on BERF yesterday!
Insta-breakfast to put me back to reality:
A lovely bowl of yogurt topped with blueberries, crumbled Great Harvest Morning Glory Muffin, chia seeds and coconut plus a spoonful of almond butter.
Lipton Tea a la mom
I missed my cycle class this morning due to oversleeping, but that’s probably for the best because I have loads to do today to prepare for my trip tomorrow (my flight leaves at 6:30am!)
Dream on!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
When I first saw the title of your post, I instantly thought of the song, “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserable! I’m sure you will have enough time to get everything you need for the baby and that you will be very well prepared. I think it’s natural to be nervous.
I’m loving the color your bowl! Everything looks yummy this morning.
KathEats says
That’s the song I was quoting! Love it
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
interesting dream! i always find it crazy when i wake up in the middle of a dream how disoriented i feel! that happened to me yesterday morning, and it took me forever to wake up and snap out of it.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
That is a crazy dream night! I get freaked out when they are so real that you have to talk yourself back to reality when you wake up.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Now Les Mis will be in my head all day! Have you seen the trailer for the movie? #omg
KathEats says
I haven’t!
Lace @ Real Food Quest says
OMG it looks amazing! Can’t wait for it to come out.
Movie trivia: Anne Hathaway was originally cast as the lead in Phantom of the Opera but had to drop out because she was under contract with Disney to do Princess Diaries 2.
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
It reminds me of the wedding dreams I had when we got married. I’d have nightmares about things until they were checked off the list then not another dream about it. I think the more you get checked off your list, the better on the dream front. 😉
KathEats says
I had those too! That was getting ready for my wedding but my hair was still wet or I wasn’t showered or something but it was 5:00 – go time!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Hehe i have crazy dreams already, but pregnancy ones sound crazy too!! I loved the bit where you said you and Matt looked at the baby and decided it wasn’t ready yet…. you can tell both of you work in a bakery!!! 😀
KathEats says
Hahahah. Back in the oven!
Linda says
I had a weird dream last night too. In my dream, my husband was telling our 18 month old to finish her gingerale and all I could think was OMG please do not be giving our baby girl gingerale. LOL This morning my husband asked if my subconscience was concerned with what he gives her to eat drink. 🙂
KathEats says
Haha
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I’m glad you were able to fall back asleep! and crazy dream! I bet you’ll have a lot of those kinds of dreams while pregnant!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Funny how our mind works! I often have dreams like that…I am what they call a ‘worry wart’. I don’t mean to be…it just happens. Thank goodness my husband is the calm one…he keeps me grounded! lol
Katie says
I remember having similar meet the baby/we’re nowhere close to being ready dreams. So strange and terrifying, yet so comforting and motivating. Glad you were at least able to go back to sleep for awhile, rest up. Your breakfast does look lovely.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Pregnancy dreams are so strange. I always had the one where I was on a roller coaster and it goes off the track. So weird. I don’t want to even begin to think about what that meant. I hope you have a great day!
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
I always get thios weird dreams when I have a big event coming: wedding, birthday etc. I am glad that the lemonade helped you go back to sleep, I sould keep some close to my bed! 🙂
Amanda says
I’m just over 25 weeks and had a dream where I had the baby and then put it back because it wasn’t ready yet too lol!! Funny how our brains work!

Hi! I’ve been peeking at your blog on and off for about a year now. When I happened to think about it a few weeks ago, I realized you were pregnant. This was particularly exciting because I’m 12 weeks into my own little adventure. It’s been nice to read about someone who’s into fitness while pregnant. I was a big runner, body pump, and cycling class person before my pregnancy but I’ve scaled back a lot. My midwife suggested not running, which makes sense because I was starting to feel like crap on my runs before I realized I was pregnant. I’ve gone to Body Pump once but took the weight WAY down and felt a little weird laying back on the bench. Anyway, my real question is about cycling; how do you like it while pregnant? I haven’t tried going back yet because it just seemed like it would be awkward and hard to get a great workout without pushing too hard. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks for all your sharing!
KathEats says
Congrats Eileen!
Yes, cycling is great because you can control how hard you spin. And it’s low impact. The only modification I do is I often skip when we do lots of jumps in a row – the up and down is a bit too much
Erin says
First time commenter but I had to share that I had so many of those dreams the last few months of both my pregnancies. Many times it was just a hand or foot that would come out (of my bellybutton) and we would oo and ahh over how cute and soft and then push it back in, and put a band aid over it….so odd!! Love your blog by the way!
Lisa @bitesforbabies says
Wow! What an great dream! I had a dream shortly before I gave birth…I was so worried about the pain because I was adamant about going naturally. Well, in the dream, I was delivering my son (with no one else around!) and I think I was reading a book or watching a t.v. during the entire process!! Needless to say, it didn’t hurt one bit! This worried me even more because they say our dreams usually represent the opposite!! Well, I can say it DID hurt BUT it wasn’t as bad as I thought!!! 😉
KathEats says
Whew, that’s good!
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles says
I’ve been having vivid dreams lately too…..I always have to regroup for a few moments when I wake up because the dreams seemed so real! Hopefully the next few months will fly by and you’ll meet your baby FOR REAL in no time 🙂
Angel7 says
What a dream! The (Great Harvest) bun was not ready to come out of mama’s tummy (LOL) 🙂

Emily @ Emily's Olives says
Love the Les Mis trailer! I didn’t think Anne Hathaway could sing that well but she sings ‘Dream a Dream’ perfectly! It’s worth checking out. I also think it’s so weird how dreams can change our perspective on things, like if you have a fight with someone in a dream and are angry at them the next day. I once had I dream I ran away with Jack Shepherd from Lost and I haven’t been able to look at the actor the same since! Will you be running out and buying baby items now, ahead of schedule??
Joanne says
What a dream. Wonder how that would be interpreted?
Janice says
Lol, thats funny. Put him back in each time 😛
samantha @ peach in the city says
yummm I want yogurt now!
Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner says
What a weird dream! Those definitely make me feel a bit off in the morning. But now you have me even more excited about the upcoming Les Mis movie! 🙂
Roxanne says
Aren’t we all glad they’re just dreams? Can you imagine pushing that baby back in? Shudder…
Courtney says
I am pregnant with my fourth child and I always have a dream where I give birth to the baby. And what’s crazy is every single one of them actually look like the baby in my dreams!! It’s kind of like a sneak peek at them. I love it!!
Amanda @flecksofgreen says
What a vivid dream! Sometimes when I have dreams that seem so real I am convinced that they happened. In dreams where I get into an argument or am angry at someone, I have to actively remember it was just a dream so I don’t take out my fictitious anger on them from the dream lol –Oh the intracacies of the inner mind!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Crazy dreams and pregnancy go hand in hand…and that one’s not all that crazy given how much baby-related stuff was on your mind yesterday and the fact that you’re now in the 3rd tri and things are getting so close!
Grace says
I have the weirdest dreams that never make any sense! I’d be perfectly happy having no dreams at all!
Erin Motz says
I also had a weird baby-related dream last night. Something must be in the water! 😉
Kel says
Ha! I HAD my first son at 27 weeks. Trust me, you can’t put them back. 🙂 Your dream was our reality – we had NOTHING. No crib, car seat, diapers.
We were quite lucky! He was 2 pounds 3 ounces at birth and at 18 is now 225 and almost 6 feet and is graduating tomorrow!
KathEats says
Oh my gosh – so glad he was OK!
OliePants says
I had similar dreams the week before my wedding and the week before I gave birth. It’s intense. Some good – some very bad. Geez. I really went through the realm of emotions before both big events. 🙂
barefootgirl27 says
What seems like a lifetime ago, when I was pregnant with my first child, I too had a dream when I was about 6 months pregnant.
I dreamt that I was laying in bed & I rolled over and saw his sweet little face.
hand to God, when he was born it was the same face that was in my dream.
I do believe that your little one met you last night:)
KathEats says
Aww
Millie Snyder says
I find those types of dreams to just be the weirdest thing- they completely alter the rest of my day, especially when the dream is so vivid in my memory. I can’t imagine how you feel after “meeting” your unborn baby- interesting! The worst is when you wake up make at somebody that really didn’t do anything.
Anyways- I was going to comment on your instant breakfast. I have never though of topping yogurt with muffin pieces- that’s a great idea and it looks delicious! I’m not sure about adding butter though, what kind of taste does it add to the dish?
KathEats says
It was almond butter….so it was delicious. I don’t think I’d add a pat of regular butter 🙂
Carrie says
Last pregnancy I had a dream that I was delivering the baby and instead it was a bunny. And everyone was trying to convince me that it was totally normal to have a bunny instead of a baby. So strange!
Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac says
Oh man! I have crazy dreams like that already when I’m stressed about something. I can’t imagine what they’ll be like when I’m ready to have a baby! Breakfast looks great, as usual!
Katie says
I use a “leg wedge” pillow that I put in between my legs when I sleep on my side and it has cured my hip pain. Plus it doesn’t move around like a pillow would. Just thought I’d share 🙂
KathEats says
Hmmm..I have a pillow between mine, but it’s the hip I’m lying on that hurts (I think?)
kate says
How much of a muffin do you normally put on your oatmeal? It looks soo good!
KathEats says
This one was small, so half. The bigger ones – 1/4
Tapioca Sunshine says
Kath: I’ve just reconnected with your blog after a year! You look great and I’m thrilled about the baby! You amaze me with your blogging dedication. How are the bears getting along? Are they excited about baby? Remember, dreams don’t tell us what we already know. They address that which needs attention. Happy for you in everything!
KathEats says
welcome back! The bears are great 🙂 We just got a new addition – one that plays a heartbeat!
Sarah says
I met our son several times while I was pregnant. The best one was when I delivered him all by myself and had to yell at the nurse for a diaper because he was peeing everywhere! But when I looked at him in the dream, he looked just like my husband (this part definitely came true!) and I was calling him his name, Samuel. It was a wonderful dream and so nice to “meet” him before he formally arrived. The peeing part came true, too- he peed 4 times before they could put a diaper on him after he was born!
wesley @ the way home says
Love that bowl! And what a crazy dream. Dreams are so weird…
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
Pregnancy dreams are so fun! I had so many of them, that is when I could sleep. If it wasn’t that I was uncomfortable, it was because my brain wouldn’t shut off and I’d be thinking baby thoughts.
I’m glad your bun isn’t ready just yet! 😉
Tapioca Sunshine says
Me-again! I just happened to think that at week 27, you have just entered the third trimester, and you are anxious to meet your baby just as he is to meet you.
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
I hate dreams where I wake up all panicked, but it sounds cool that you got to “meet” the baby. Funny how the body works 😉
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
What a crazy dream!! The part that was funny to me was the “he wasn’t quite done so we put him back inside” — haha!! I’m sure there are several underlying signs in that dream…
Nicole says
That is the SAME exact dream I repeatedly had with all three pregnancies…that part or all of the baby was born before it was ready and I had to put them back in. Sometimes it would only be a foot or a leg that came out and sometimes the whole baby. There must be something to this dream!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I can’t speak from experience, but I’m sure that the crazy dreams about having the baby will keep showing up over the next several weeks! It would be fun to write them down though each morning, so that you can look back and see if anything actually happened (obviously last night’s won’t….)
donna says
Funny how some dreams seem so real! Did you get your test results back? Or did I miss that in your posts?
KathEats says
I did – check BERF tomorrow!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Interesting dream…just keep in mind that in the dream, you handled everything. That’s what matters. Travel safe tomorrow!
DHA says
Hi,
Just want to say i recently discovered your blog a few weeks ago and i am hooked! I am also an RD (in Canada) and a mother to two little boys so we have a lot in common. Enjoy your last trimester of pregnancy!! There is really nothing like the anticipation of waiting for that first baby!
KathEats says
Thanks for stopping by!
Sara says
What a crazy dream! I laughed aloud when I read about Matt putting the baby back because he thought it wasn’t ready 😛 Although I’ve never been pregnant (or had pregnancy dreams), it sounds like exactly something my unconscious would come up with, haha.
Becky O'Brien says
Hey there! I read your blog daily, but haven’t commented lately. Such a talented writer, photographer and soon-to-be great mother! So thankful to know you, Kath. Have a great time on your trip. I’m sure your presentations will go off without a hitch. Thank you for all you do to make a difference.
Julia H. @ Going Gulia says
Holy cow, that is one crazy dream! I don’t know about you, but I always get really excited when I’m able to remember a dream I had. Of course, then I end up thinking about the dream all day & trying to analyze it or something. Guess that’s the psych major in me!
Megan says
I had some WEIRD dreams during pregnancy, one time that I gave birth to a doll. I was talking about it in my labor/delivery class and my friend told me that she had just dreamt that she gave birth to a puppy, haha! It’s never a bad idea to get done with the to-do list as early as you can, so you can just sit back and relax at the end of the pregnancy.
