Tequila? What’s tequila?
I am not even sure I would like the taste of tequila in my ‘ritas anymore – I am so used to them virgin-style! They’re so good!
On Friday night, Thomas and I went downtown in heavy rain to see the comedian David Cross! My raincoat would not zip 🙁
Before the show we had dinner at Zocalo.
Of course we got the pepper. We can’t ever not get it.
But we DID branch out away from our favorite salmon dish (which – gasp – they had changed up a little on the menu!) and got the scallops instead! So delicious with a carrot-vanilla sauce and smashed plantains underneath.
Because our favorite ice cream was calling our name a mere five steps away, we just had to. I just wanted one bite and ordered a kids’ size, which was still too much! Somehow I fit it all in though and was uncomfortably full through the show!
There was no photography allowed, but we did get a glimpse of Mr. Cross on the downtown mall before the show! He has been my favorite comedian since college, and Thomas surprised me with tickets (not even knowing this!) earlier this summer. The show was great with lots of laughs. My favorite bit was his story of getting a colonic, during which he described the acrylic poop collection machine (!!) as something that looked like “modern art for rich assholes.” Love a good pun!!!!
Back at the casa on Saturday morning, Thomas made us GH Cinnamon Chip French toast while I researched resorts in south Florida and the Keys for spring break next year.
We’d like to take the boys (plural! Knock on wood!) somewhere warm and beachy, and I’m being really picky about the rooming situation because I know 6-month-old babies nap a lot, and I don’t want to be stuck in a dark hotel room. Hawks Cay is at the top of our list for the townhome-style accommodations and lots of kid-friendly activities for Mazen. Anyone been there or have recommendations for us? (We’d like to stay within the USA for ease of travel with a baby reasons…)
I went for a run/walk later on. I ran about 3/4 of a mile before stopping to walk. As much as I wanted the cardio burn, it just didn’t feel good. My abs felt like they might rip off! I was wearing a support belt too. My mom says I have the rest of my life to run, so maybe I should just give up for the next 3 months.
I did a little maternity wear fashion show for Instagram Stories before lunch. Loving the sleeves on this new top. And these are my go-to shorts! I’m thinking I might post the videos and links in a blog post for those who missed it?
For lunch I made T and I salmon salad with chopped carrots, pepper, yogurt, mayo, mustard, salt, pepper, relish, paprika, and herbs. Whew!
+an apple and some Dove Promises for dessert!
We spent the afternoon relaxing a bit. I am reading this book and it’s SO GOOD! A mystery of sorts.
I Facetimed with Mazen who enjoyed sailing camp in San Diego all last week! I can’t wait to see him.
On Saturday night, we had our friends Jami and Timon over for games and dinner. We played two rounds of Chickpig and grilled up steaks.
NY Strip steaks + corn on the cob + Jami’s pesto mozzarella zoodles. I made the chimichurri sauce with lots of cilantro, parsley, oregano, jalapeno, a little vinegar, olive oil, lime juice and S+P.
On Sunday morning, Thomas headed to golf and I worked on the house + wrote this post!
Simple little breakfast: leftover french toast with PB, peach, milk, coffee.
Hope you guys had a great weekend!

Looks like you had a delicious weekend! Glad you are keeping busy in fun ways while your little one is out of town? Your fiends pesto dish looks yum too! What did she include?
PS. Your Mom is right?

Your dinner looks fabulous. How did jami make the zoodles?
KathEats says
She spiralized them herself, drained them with salt over a colander, and then added “a little bit of everything,” including pesto and mozzarella, and heated till everything was warm!

Hawks Cay is fantastic! We spent 5 nights there a few years ago and loved the resort and the middle keys in general. We spent the weekend in Key West, but I could have easily stayed at Hawks Cay the entire time.

Good to hear!

Hiii – Would love the pesto mozzarella zoodles recipe if your friend is willing to give it up. Sounds simple enough. I have a jar of pesto and pre-made WF zoodles in the frigo because it’s too hot to deal with food prep right now for this girl. THANKS!
KathEats says
She said she just drained the noodles with some salt (so they wouldn’t weep water everywhere while cooking) and mixed pesto, fresh mozzarella, and some spices (maybe red pepper flakes? salt and pepper?) in a casserole dish and heated until the cheese was melted and everything was warmed.

Looks like a fun summer weekend! With lots of delicious treats 🙂

As a nod to the Young House Love plea to show the blogs you read some love, I thought I’d comment to let you know we are all still reading! I think a blog post with your short finds would be great for all the expecting mamas looking to snag some shorts before they are out of the stores! Thanks for sharing your life with us in this way and your tips, tricks and all the content through the years.

I’ve been to Hawks Cay with a five-year-old last year and we had a good time! It was very kid-friendly. Feel free to follow up with any questions. 🙂

Great! My biggest concern is being on one end of the resort with Mazen and baby has to nap. How easy is it to get from one side to the other? It looks huge! I think I saw there’s a shuttle? Which part did you stay in?
Emily says
We were in the Marina Village. It was close to the kid’s play place and one of the pools but farther from the main resort and the salt water lagoon. The resort is big, and it’s not the quickest to get from end to end. We rarely used the shuttle, though. I don’t remember how regularly the shuttle came by, but I didn’t like waiting. Once you get the lay of the land, you will find that there are some cut throughs so you don’t have to use the main roads and sidewalks.

Thanks!

Hawk’s Cay is a great choice. Cheeca Lodge is also awesome (we went there a ton as kids). Tranquility Bay (and its sister resorts) are also wonderful. Can’t go wrong with the Florida Keys! – Kristen (Florida native)
KathEats says
Those are all on my list! Tranquility Bay is my top choice, but I’m a little concerned there wouldn’t be enough for Mazen to do. Have you been there to have an opinion?
Kristen says
I’ve been there but it was before I had kids so I can’t say. Good luck!
KathEats says
Right-o! If we were going with Mazen it would be my top choice. It looks beautiful!

Just in case your hub hasn’t told you, dogs SHOULD bark at the mailman. They are guarding your house, and it is their duty to do so. Another time, it might be someone casing and hearing the dog is a great signal that this is not a good house to break into! Your mailman hears this at every doggie house and doesn’t think it is rude at all. Dog being dog is a great thing.

Yeah, I know it’s his instinct. I’m not actually punishing him – just making a joke. But because our delivery peeps come at different times everyday, I spend a lot of time rushing out there if Gus is outside to assure them he’s not about to attack and intercept the package and feel bad for anyone he scares if I don’t get out there in time. I’m not sure of other solutions other than not letting him outside that much.

Check out South Sea’s Island Resort on Captiva. It’s almost a “sister – resort” to Hawks Kay. We’ve had family go to both Hawks Cay and South Seas and they prefer South Seas. We’ve been there three times now (most recently with a 4.5 and 2 year old). Lots of different accommodations to choose from (standard hotel to condo units). We have stayed in a 2 bedroom condo for the exact same reason (naps with the littles). They also have small kitchens so you don’t feel the need to eat bfast/lunch/dinner out every meal. Extremely family friendly, rent a golf cart to get around the island. Stuff for big kids and babies! https://www.southseas.com/

Thanks checking it out now!

I’ve been reading for years and never commented, but had to say — I LOVE that you love David Cross! We had tix to see him in our town but had to cancel due to sick kiddos. Glad to hear he is still a hoot! Congrats on the baby!
