It’s been ages since I’ve made a Dough Boy Smoothie! But last night one was calling my name. The essence of them is that you make soaked overnight oats in the blender and turn it into a smoothie in the morning. The texture is thick like a doughy batter!
My bowl was nearly overflowing! I made this recipe – Strawberry Cheesecake Dough Boy Smoothie – and topped it with blackberries, crushed graham cracker and sunflower butter (my coconut butter is doing a strange separation and I can’t get it to work – must melt it next time).
Served with some freshly brewed cold coffee concentrate. Good!
Have a bright and beautiful day!
Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma says
I REALLY need to make these! If only I could find my blender…
Ann says
Hilarious, because I was thinking about this yesterday – Kath hasn’t made a dough boy in awhile! lol ESP!
Johanna B says
I haven’t had one of your Dough Boy Smoothies in a while either. Guess this is a good time to make another one. Love the strawbs one.
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I had overnight oats this morning and haven’t tried the dough boy smoothie yet… now I wish I still had them so that I could throw ’em in a blender! Oh well- there’s always tomorrow morning. 🙂
It looks like that smoothie is about to go overboard!
Meredith says
Looks delish!
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
I want to run over and hold the one side of the bowl up to keep it from tipping! 😀 Enjoy your Tuesday!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I’ve never tried one of your dough boy smoothies but that strawberry cheesecake one seems to be calling my name. Looking at the recipe now!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I really need to try this one day. Right now I love doing a quick, thick oat mixture with raw oats, protein powder, almond milk, and various flavors (pumpkin, cinnamin, etc.). I mix it into a think pudding and let it sit for an hour. Awesome doughy mix!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
How fun is that breakfast! Love the presentation…all the colours…that tea towel is gorgeous!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I’ve never tried the overnight oats that way. I should give it a try!
Millie Snyder says
Me either!
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
Gorgeous colors for this somewhat gloomy morning!! The smoothie looks delicious!
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
your breakfast certainly looks bright and beautiful! I have to try the dough boy smoothie soon… I do love cookie dough… and I love overnight oats. I’m sure it would be a win.
happy tuesday!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
This looks and sounds perfect for this morning! I’ve been making my oats a little on the runnier side and then adding protein powder to the top of them and swirling it in. It makes doughy pieces in my oats! My favorite addition to that is blueberries (tastes like a blueberry muffin) and pumpkin!
Cait's Plate says
That’s SO strange – I woke up Monday morning and suddenly had a HUGE craving for a dough boy smoothie bowl and was so sad I hadn’t set it up the night before! Then I forgot again! I think I gotta go prepare mine for tomorrow right now 🙂
Andrea says
I love how it filled your bowl to the brim! When I made your pumpkin smoothie that was the first time I used graham crackers as a topper… and now I loveee using graham crackers to top things! Graham is definately one of my favorite flavors. Have a great day 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ooh I remember these and you’ve also reminded me that I need to try them!! I love my smoothies nice and thick and had a perfect one this morning. You know it’s gonna be a good day when the consistency is just right! 😉
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Ooohhhh I have to try this soon!! Happy Tuesday 😀
Claire says
Yum! Coincidentally,I had almost the same breakfast this morning! I had oats soaked overnight in unsweetened chocolate almond milk, and then blended with frozen banana, a fresh peach and a bit of flax. I even put sunflower butter on top!
Emma says
I can’t believe I still haven’t tried overnight oats – those look great, especially with the graham cracker pieces and sun butter!
wesley @ the way home says
Yummm that sounds awesome. Reminds me of cream of wheat or oat bran. I never ever would have thought of that!
Grace says
Just got my all my wisdom teeth removed and have been living off these! I modified your recipe a little and actually use less oats, more goat whey instead of milk, greek yogurt, and no chia seeds (I’m afraid they’ll get in the holes!). Plus blended nectarine to go with the banana 🙂
Let’s just say they’ve been hitting the spot! Thanks for the inspiration and happy Tuesday!

What an interesting breakfast! Love graham crackers…one of my favorite cookies! A cookies and cream dough boy would be great! With oreos and chocolate syrup on top! Or maybe cookie dough…with chocolate chips and some kind of nut butter.
Khushboo says
Definitely keeping this in mind for those mornings where I’m rushing to eat my overnight oats!
Erin @ erinberries says
That is a really cool idea. I’ve never made overnight oats, but I like the idea of eating something with a dough like consistency in the morning! Can you do overnight oats with steel cut oats or does it have to be rolled oats? Then, care you able to blend them to have the same result for the dough boy smoothie?
KathEats says
I don’t think the steel cut have the surface area to really absorb liquid enough to be soft in the AM – but if you’re going to blend them, then it might be fine?
Erin @ erinberries says
Thanks! I might research it a bit more too. 🙂
Working Girl @ Caffeinated Contentment says
That looks like the PERFECT summer breakfast. I’ve been meaning to try one of these – so easy and portable! And your presentation makes it look even more appetizing, if that was possible…
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I made a dough boy smoothie once almost a year ago and it didn’t turn out so well. I think I’ll have to try again this summer seeing as I’m much better now at making oats and smoothies! Looks delicious!
Angel7 says
Overcast skies today here, but the sun is peeking out. We could use a little rain, though, to help green the grass and such.

Fill us in on the ratios for the brewed cold coffee concentrate that you’ve ended up with after you have it down to a science. I want to start doing it but not at 2/3 c ground coffee at a time…gets a little pricey!
KathEats says
Today I did about 2/3 c. and 1/3 water.
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
wow time flies by!!~~I remember you used to make these a lot like, a year ago? And I followed the recipes and gave it a try! I really liked it too–but I’m just used to eating more “chunky” meals for breakfast. 😛 When it gets hotter here I’ll def. have some.
Margaret M. says
This is deliciously yummy, perfect for breakfast with coffee. Oh, I love it! I’ve gotta try this out at home.
Rachel says
I found about dough boy smoothies through you and omg it really was like eating cookie dough in the morning! I haven’t had one in a while lol
Annette @FitnessPerks says
I LOVE all the color! SO fun!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
I had my first smoothie in a bowl yesterday and I’m hooked! Delicious! I’m going to have to try your version tomorrow.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I love how bright and cheerful your breakfast spread is! 🙂 I’ve never had a dough boy smoothie. I should try making one. It looks delicious!
Katie says
Oh that smoothie looks scrumptious! I don’t know if I could handle that much sugar first thing in the morning though. Is it horribly sweet? I’m just trying to watch my sugar intake 🙂
KathEats says
Not at all – there isn’t any sugar in it other than fresh strawberries and blackberries. Leave out the graham cracker if you don’t want that.
Susan says
What kind of blender do you use? Do you like it? I swear that I always buy sucky blenders. 😉
KathEats says
A vitamix…. Expensive but amazing
Susan says
I’ll have to check that out!
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
Mmm I totally forgot about the wondrous dough boy smoothie! Gotta give that one a try 🙂

I even make it in the summer time! I never thought to add graham crackers but I will do that!
