They are everywhere. Don don donnnnn.
But they are friendly!
When walking, running or golf carting you are bound to make several wormy friends!
Yesterday we spent some time on the beach until it got too cloudy and cold to stay warm. Bummer.
We had lunch at the Peli beforehand – Asian salads with shrimp and wontons on top and a trio of flavorful dressings.
Nye’s Ice Cream sandwiches for dessert (split 4 ways). Good, but not as good as Sweet Sandies of Cville!!
Monday night we joined a few other local couples for the monthy Bald Head Island potluck! Unfortunately there weren’t many people in attandance, but fortunately we had appetizer, main course and dessert covered! Fruit salad // quinoa, turkey and peppers // chocolate brownie trifel (YUM!)
We also brought some of Matt’s home brew to share!
Tuesday morning I got in a 3-4 mile run (I wasn’t measuring) and ate breakfast on the fly on the way to an appointment with the BHI Nature Conservancy. My parents bid on a tour at a silent auction on the island last year and finally scheduled a date.
Emily was our wonderful tour guide and showed us some special natural highlights of the island, including a bald eagle nest (via binoculars) and an Ibis sanctuary.
We thought we saw a gator, but it ended up being a stick with a turtle on top : ) Back at the Conservancy classroom we got to touch turtles – a sweet baby included!!
And play with snakes!! (Some of us…)
We had a {very} late lunch at MoJo’s –
Beer and fish tacos with the best sweet potato fries!
After some quiet time, we walked over to our friends’ house for cocktail hour. They live on the harbor, and have the most beautiful views!!
Their house is also super charming and cute – all beadboard and cottagey. They need to be featured in Cottage Living stat!
I’m obsessed with their galvanized lighthouse candleholders ; )
We drank prosecco and red wine (and apple juice) and ate chips and quac!
After we said farewell we walked to Delphina’s for a light dinner – nachos and a tiny pizza for Mazen.
Tomorrow is our last day. We have great weather in the forecast, and high hopes for fun on the beach!
Mazen will be the first to tell you “I’m on island time, Old Baldy!”
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Baby turtles!! What a fun time!

Delicious foooooood! Well, I hate bugs, but inchworms are cute!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
Just realized I haven’t seen an inch worm in years! I wonder if they exist in LA?!?
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Stunning pics! And that house is incredible!!!
Kate says
Rock Hill is drowning in those inch worms- I am constantly picking them off of me.
These pictures make me so excited for some time of the beach!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Oh my goodness, that cottage is super cute! Your friends have an adorable spot! Alex and I are trying to plan a trip to the beach soon 🙂 Hopefully sooner rather than later!
Tonya says
IDK what’s cuter–Mazen with the turtle or Mazen at “mocktail” hour! HA!
Your friend’s house is beeeeaaautiful!
Sara says
This has seriously been one of my favorite posts! Loved the pictures! AND…… the ‘Cottage Living’ cottage was absolutely adorable! Hopefully there was some Great Lakes Brew in that Great Lakes Brewery glass. 😉
KathEats says
We had the porter the next day…it was GREAT!
Sara says
Try the Chillwave if you ever get a chance! It is a bit on the strong side, but very refreshing on a warm Summer day. 🙂
Hannah @ eat, drink and save money says
Enjoy your last day! I’m so glad you were able to have a fun beach vacation.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
omg the little turtle!!! How fun! I loved stuff like that as a kid (okay, and as an adult) haha
Matt Monson says
Make sure Mazen learns the proper sound of an inch worm walking: “ween, wornk, ween, wornk”
KathEats says
We’ve been doing it!
Blythe says
How fun! Where did you get Mazen’s shark shirt?? My daughter will be 3 on August 1st and she LOVES sharks! (Like she’s into watching documentaries “loves sharks” 🙂 ). I need to get her that shirt!
KathEats says
It’s by Mini Boden (I think that’s the name). It wasnt cheap but it was ome of my grandmothers last gifts to M
Larbs says
Man, I have never been on a BH trip like this one – you’re getting spoiled like an only child:) Love that beach cottage!
KathEats says
Haha! Fly in next time!
Connie says
It looks like you’re having a very special trip with your parents. My son is about Mazen’s age, and I think it’s such a fun age. My parents’ adore their time with our guy, as it looks like yours do with Mazen. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Oh, and is Cottage Living magazine back in publication?? I was devastated when they stopped publishing a few years ago (aside from maybe a special publication a couple of times a year). I would be SO happy if I could subscribe again!
KathEats says
You’re right. ..Cottage Living was my favorite ever! So sad it’s gone. I should have said Cottages and Bungalows or Coastal Living!
Connie says
Bummer, I thought maybe it was back in circulation!!
Alexa says
There aren’t many kids I think are as cute as my own, but my goodness, Mazen looks so freaking cute in those sunglasses. He is such a cute little boy!
Jeanie says
Oh, my goodness! Can you imagine going to bed and waking up with that view every day?
Sara says
I wish I could get over the inchworm fear. But they creep me out! They love our Japanese Maple and hang out on our front porch and front door. Ugh!
