When I checked my phone upon waking this morning the weather said "FOG." Sure enough, upon looking out the window, there were no mountains to be seen. Just hazy sunlight.
I donned my slippers, bounded down the stairs…
It’s the week of Thanksgiving! Let the thanks begin.
I am thankful for oatmeal
And wheatberries, which I was happy to remember were already cooked in my fridge and ready to be added to oats!

I love wearing my pjs and slippers and making breakfast – it would feel like such a weekend!
Beautiful picture of the fog. I hope your drain is working better – there is nothing worse than a slow shower drain.
Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year?
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
slippers always make me feel so cozy! I love your oatmeal bowl today!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
I loooove wearing slippers when its cold outside. That oat mix looks AMAZING. I haven’t had hot oats in ages – maybe tomorrow. 🙂
Julie @ Honey B. says
I LOVE that Ancient Grains cereal!! Your creation looks phenomenal, I think I might try it with some buckwheat groats. Your recipes always look so delish but I’m trying to amend them for a grain-free, or at least LESS grain, diet at the moment. Not the easiest but totally do-able it’s fun to experiment!!
Christine says
Me too! I was not expecting to LOVE the Ancient Grains as much as I do. How’d they get the pieces so big and not hard as a rock?! I’ts pretty awesome!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I can’t get into slippers. I love being barefoot!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Yay!!!! I love holiday weeks! And I love slippers too…I have some ugg slippers that are SO cozy!
Natalia - a side of simple says
I live in my slippers. I wish I could walk around outside with them on, too! (Oh, wait… there are those couple of times…)
Happy Monday!
hippierunner says
oh no! hope fog doesn’t make things too gloomy!
sweetersalt says
I love the Whole Foods morning buzz. And, the big bag was on sale for $5 this week. Score!

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
I love meal planning the week of Thanksgiving. So many less meals to come up with because you know you will have plenty of leftovers. 😀
Christin@purplebirdblog says
Slippers!! I love them!
Samantha @ Bikini Birthday says
Have you ever tried sprouting wheatberries instead of cooking them?
Kath says
Yeah, but I didn’t think it was worth the wait.
Samantha @ Bikini Birthday says
Yeah, you kinda have to plan ahead a bit, but they keep in the fridge for quite a while. I’m a huge fan of sprouted wheatberries.

I felt compelled to let you know you may want to ask your landlord to seal the bathtub. I have the same problem with my bathtub and black mold ended up seeping through and making me (and my kids) rather sick!
In the meantime, you could spray some bleach (or a more green-friendly product) on the areas to at least slow down the mold growth.
And now… I’ll head back to ogling your coffee!
Kath says
We might if the problem persists, but I think it’s fixed for now.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
This is my favorite week of the year! Let it begin! 🙂
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
do tell how the tub goes! i need all the help i can get with ours!
Lisa Fine - lisasfoods says
We’re living in a land of fog in the Berkshires too. It makes for a beautiful morning, but I have to force myself to go outside for a walk today.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I wish my morning had started as relaxed as yours!! I love wheat berries as well and have been cooking up batches (as well as spelt berries) lately for use on salads during the week. It’s kinda like the Whole Foods grain bar… but not quite as tasty. 😉
Kiran says
I’m thankful for your pumpkin oatmeal creations 😉
Kelly says
We are bathtub twins. We have the same porcelain tub in our new/old house. 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I am so thankful for my pumpkin oats this morning!

Isn’t the feeling of it being holiday week wonderful! I have been feeling especially cozy all morning 🙂
Nienke at Revel says
Fog is so super cozy!!! And perfect slipper weather 🙂
Pass some fog may way would you?
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i like fog in autumn. spoooky. good luck with the drain!
Halley (Blunder Construction) says
Do you always plan out your meals ahead of time? I wish I could stick to a meal plan like that. But for me, too much planning leads to a very confused chef in the kitchen.
Kath says
I try to! But I am not always the best planner. And my plan is always loose.
Felicia (a taste of health with balance) says
the oatmeal and wheatberry combo was probably so delicious! Love the holiday feelings 🙂 enjoy!!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Ohhhh… I never thought to add wheatberries to my oatmeal! That with some greek yogurt and berries would be so good right now.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Oats are perfect on a foggy morning! Kind of makes me wish I had slippers, too. 😛
grocery goddess jen says
I love my slippers. I wish I was wearing them right now!
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says

Shayla says
Hey Kath! I thought you’d be the best person to ask this – I’ve been debating on whether to buy chia or flax seeds? Do you have a preference and do they each have their own nutritional benefits or are they about the same? I’ve tried researching it but it gets a bit confusing! And I’m mostly looking for one to add more fiber into my diet and to help with “getting things movin” so from what I’ve read I think chia is the way to go….but wanted your opinion too! 🙂
Kath says
I like chia more because they don’t have to be ground and I think their effects are better in cooking (i.e. oats) Why not get both!?
Shayla says
True I think I will get both – why not right?! Thanks Kath for your input 🙂
Jan says
microwave?!
Kath says
??
Em says
We had tons of fog here too. Granted, NC isn’t that far from VA lol. And I also made channa masala for dinner tonight! Man am I thankful for channa masala, YUM!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Slippers are one of those things that I always want to buy, but never remember to!
Hannah says
As an Australian who doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, I mostly can’t wait for the Peanut Noodles day! That’s a recipe I can feasibly make soon, you see 🙂
Ally says
Kath! You’re so neat! That black stuff couldn’t possibly be mold all around the tile grout could it?
Kath says
I have scrubbed and scrubbed. And this house is many years older than I have lived here!
Ally says
haha, I was just giving you a hard time because your house is always SO clean. Wish I had some advice, there were a couple spots we couldn’t ever get totally clean in our old house (and I was using abrasive stuff) so we just ended up re-grouting the tile.
Kath says
Yes, it is very sad when it won’t come out 🙁
Angelea says
We too live in an old house with a tiled tub and it is a source of irritation to me. We hired someone to regrout it in places and paint over the grout in other areas. It was expensive and two years later it is starting to look crummy again. Let’s just call it character, okay?? 🙂
Candy says
Have you ever added oat groats to your oatmeal? I love cooking steel cut with oat groats for my pumpkin oats. You’d love the texture! I love wheat berries but must do gluten free.
Kath says
I’ve blended them into Scottish oats, and also made regular steel cut oats
