When you find something good, ‘tis better not to stray too far away!
Tonight we repaid a visit to our new favorite restaurant, Commonwealth. Trip number one was just a few weeks ago with Anne P! This restaurant is just doing everything right. Ambiance, good service, amazing menu, local food support.
We loved last time’s Alexander Valley wine so much we got a bottle of the same again!
AND the same Lobster & Cod cakes! We generally are people who like to taste tons of different flavors, but these were just so good we couldn’t pass them up again.
For dinner I ordered a salad with avocado and goat cheese
And a side of red beans + chorizo. None of the entrees were calling my name, but these two were!
However Amanda’s pork and Matt’s steak were both outstanding! [We’re sharers]
We can’t thank Amanda enough for her expertise and enthusiasm. The bakery’s lobby looks SO MUCH better now – full and styled!!
The three of us shared dessert – ‘cause it’s my birthday week and ‘cause it’s delicious!
This was a coconut custard and it was OUTSTANDING! Like a crab cake made of pure coconut with a coconut reduction on top. Loved it 100%!
And with that, on this balmy autumn night, I’m tucking myself in bed!
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
Fun and YUM! Gotta swing by the bakery and check it out!!!
KathEats says
You do – and wait till you try the new coconut muffins on Monday (hopefully!)
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
oh goodness, that red beans and chorizo looks AMAZING. I would have ordered it too!
Brittany (Eating Bird Food) says
The Commonwealth looks amazing. I need to make a trip to c-ville to try all the delicious looking restaurants you post about. 🙂
Brittany (Eating Bird Food) says
PS – I was looking at my search terms today and someone is on my blog searching for “blogging job kath” – not sure what their looking for, but thought it was funny.
KathEats says
Haha – sweet!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
we are totally guilty of finding a spot we love and going there time and time again. if it’s broke, don’t fix it, right?!
kelsey @ living the gluten free life says
That meal looks delicious!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
We’re the same way, once you find something you like and trust…you stick with it. Dinner looks delicious! Sleep well!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i love red beans. wish they weren’t so controversial to cook in the crockpot!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
a little coconut cake w/ a coconut reduction? oh be still, my beating heart.
and that lobster + cod cake…wow.
And an Alexander Valley region wine? Oh, sounds like a perfect night to me!
Chris says
I say this as a compliment to you and not a complaint to your post tonight. I find your posts about your meals in your own home way more interesting. I just love reading them so much more. (I do love to go out to eat though, too). 🙂
KathEats says
I totally agree. I skim over other bloggers when they eat out. I have to wonder if anyone reads about the dishes in detail?
emily says
Ha, I love when bloggers (or good at descriptions bloggers at least) post meals out! Partially because it makes my inner foodie happy and partially because we are so dang poor right now and it’s fun to live vicariously.
…not to say I don’t enjoy your at home posts too 🙂
Sonya says
I read your restaurant and home cooked food posts! Love the pictures and the detail.
Kimberly says
I actually like the restaurant posts better! The meals are always more interesting to me…I do read the descriptions! Maybe it’s just because I love to go out to eat too. The oatmeal posts sort of run together for me, but I like seeing all the different restaurants you go to.
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
Ha! I totally just skimmed this post and then saw this comment. I don’t know why it is I find this less interesting?!?!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmmmm these look like tasty dishes!
Molly @ RDexposed says
We share the mentality of “what’s mine is yours” when we eat out! You get to taste so many more things. There might be times when I may flash a look of “take that last bite and you won’t survive to see the check”…but only if it’s really good of course!
I may have flashed it for that custard.
Angel7 says
It is totally a good night to get cozy underneath a warm blanket, because it is cold and rainy outside!

Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
I can’t wait for the bakery’s new decor photos 😉 Pls post some soon! Good night.
Allison @ thesundayflog says
So jealous it’s balmy there! Philly is about 40 frigid degrees and rainy tonight!! And supposed snow on Saturday! Eek
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
Gotta stick with what’s good! If it ain’t broke…
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
My family members and I are total sharers when we go out to eat too! It’s just so hard to pick one thing and not sample the others…
Lena @Fit on the Rocks says
That sounds so nice! My friends and I always share when we’re out. I don’t even think we ask anymore, but then we get to try a little bit of everything 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
The fact that you just used the word “balmy” to describe your night and it’s snowing here is pure torture!
Krystina (Organically Me) says
Wow, that steak looks so freaking amazing.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I would like that dessert. Please. 😉
Khushboo says
I’m guilty of sticking with the same dishes if I know they’re delicious…maybe I should branch out more!
Kelly @ Foodie Fiasco says
How do you get photos of food when you eat out to look so stunning? You’re so talented. 😉
KathEats says
A good lens, really low aperture and elbows on the table!
Hillary says
I never thought I’d crave chorizo at 7 am. But now I am.
Christena says
Yum! Love the blog, Kath, (and read every post) but I must say that it bugs me a little bit when you give justifications for why you eat dessert or sweets…you did that in the post earlier in the day as well. Just curious: do you feel like you have to do this because this is a healthy living/real food blog and you don’t think that eating dessert regularly is consistent with the mission of your blog? I only ask because #1 I don’t think you eat too many sweets (your portion control is impressive) and #2 you look great and are obviously fit, so your diet is clearly working for you. I don’t think you need to justify it. But I could be reading more into it or reading it differently than you intend.
KathEats says
Well I don’t always do this and I think a little commentary is entertaining, but I’m sorry if it was too much
Christena says
Don’t apologize! Commentary is definitely entertaining. I guess I just don’t get or like the idea of “guilt” around eating sweets/desserts, especially for some one who eats as overall healthy and balanced as you! And clearly I read more into it than you meant. You are right, you usually don’t do this — I just hope you don’t feel any pressure to because you are a healthy living blogger.
KathEats says
No guilt!!!! I’ve enjoyed every dessert I’ve put in my mouth 🙂 And despite the fact that I love veggies, am and RD and exercise regular, I don’t really consider myself a “healthy living blogger.” Yes I’m part of that niche, but that’s not what I think about when I write. I’m not trying to prove any examples or give exercise plans or meal plans or anything – I’m just eating and blogging my way through life.
Anne P says
JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to go back to that restaurant. Immediately.
KathEats says
It missed you
Emmy (Wine and Butter) says
I miss American restaurants!! I love ones in the UK too, but the ambience is totally different. I love the way US restaurants can be both swanky and informal – doesnt happen here!
Im also so with you on the sticking with a good thing. In fact my mantra – which my friends often repeat back to me is ‘stick with the formula’ !!!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I love how the restaurant displays their menu! Very unique. The lobster and cod cakes and the steak look delicious!
Cait's Plate says
All the food looks absolutely incredible! I’m glad you had another fun night – you do birthday weeks right! 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I sometimes order the same dishes at my favourite restaurants too. If it ain’t broke… 😉
Amanda says
I definitely have food envy over that coconut custard! I think I’m still searching for a restaurant that does everything right near me, but I may have found one (Oleana in Cambridge for any MA readers). But it’s kind of pricey so it’s a once-in-a-while treat for sure.
It’s balmy in Cville, huh? We got freezing rain and snow around Boston last night! Ugh.
Lexi says
I love the food here too! The downstairs is much better than the “rooftop”. I also get beer spilled on me upstairs.
Also, I didn’t know it was your birthday! Happy belated!
Lindsay says
Can’t wait to see the spruced up lobby! And the spread looked yummy…the salad and red beans just was a great balance! Glad you are still lovin bday treat week!
