Good morning!! It’s 5:40am and I’m up and at ‘em for Thursday morning athletic conditioning. Because I only get up once per week for an early class, I don’t dread it like I might if I was a daily occurrence (as it used to be back in the day!) It’s sort of, almost exciting to get up this early once a week!
Despite going to be really early, I didn’t quite hit 8 hours. Mazen woke up crying in the middle of the night and was hard to get back to sleep : (
After getting dressed and teeth brushing, I eat half a banana to ward off mid-workout hunger and give me some fuel to start.
Class is a good one for me and I feel strong ‘till the end despite being very tired and drenched in sweat! Here’s my Thursday AM bud Lynsie! People think we are twins all the time.
Back at home, I sneak in a shower and get dressed before Mazen wakes up. Outfit of the day is mostly Stitch Fix!
7:45 M is up! We head to the kitchen for breakfast and say goodbye to Matt. M has toast, yogurt and pear.
I give this guy a try – so much spice flavor! Loved it.
Served with some Carrot Walnut muffin from the bakery, almond butter and pear cubes
I get Mazen dressed – in his Halloween costume! It’s the day before and he has a party at preschool. No tears this time! After some practicing he gets that costume = fun and treats.
Tooth brushing for us both
I quickly clean up the kitchen
And we’re off!
Back at home, I have a little time to work on emails and comments before a 9:30 call with Relay Foods about a potential project.
After my call, I head up to Homegoods to meet my friend Sarah who asked me to help her pick out some décor for her new house. {Reason #562 why preschool days rock!)
I ended up buying a new piece for our family room, which needed something a little bigger than the small frame I had there.
Before:
After. Love the glam.
I put the frame in the kitchen!
Costume change – it’s getting warm outside and sweater was making me sweat!
I walk back to preschool (which is about a half mile away) and get the kiddo! The Halloween party was a blast.
Our walk home was a slow one because Mazen wanted to walk.
We put up his new artwork before playing trains for a little while.
Then it’s lunchtime!
M has leftover lasagna, carrot sticks and an apple.
I heat up leftover mac and cheese, toss in some salad greens and add carrot sticks. I also eat Mazen’s leftover lasagna and half his apple.
The mail comes!!! A Halloween card from Grammie!
Pre-nap snuggles on the couch while we read some books.
Night night Mazen!
I make tea – my naptime ritual these days
And open a package from a new small-batch nut butter company called Buddy’s! It was founded by recent college grad, Andrew, aka Buddy. I taste the chocolate right away and it’s heavenly – kind of gritty almost like little bits of crackle inside!? The cinnamon raisin reminds me of pumpkin spice!
Afternoon Jawbone check! Goal met!
I sit down to 2 solid hours of work at my computer, including uploading these photos and writing this post up to here! I also had a call with a sponsor. Exciting times. And an empty inbox at the end!
Mazen woke up just before 5 and had some granola bar for a snack.
Matt came home a little later and the boys went out for a walk.
I got started on dinner: sausage and root soup!
While the soup simmered, I headed back down to wrap up on the computer for the day. I thought about opening a bottle of wine but I decided to pass since there is a good chance ice cream is in the cards tonight during Survivor hour!
Then it was time for dinner! I added frozen greens to the soup. It was OK, but not amazing.
Mazen liked it! But he didn’t eat too much of the spinach. We also shared some Honey Whole Wheat rolls on the side.
After dinner we read stories…
Had a tea party…
And then read more stories in bed after bath. Diggers Go is the best!
We also love Goodnight Construction Site.
After M went to bed, Hillary and Ellen came over for some Survivor!! We try not to have dessert every night during our Survivor parties (most of the time it’s just hot tea), but I just got some new ice cream flavors from Sweet Sandies that we had to try.
Amazing!!
As was Survivor.
Lights out at 10:26!

Love that red & white stripe shirt. I’ve finally gotten over my fear of horizontal stripes and am LOVING them this year.
Lindsey @ SimplyLindsey says
I LOVE the new picture you got for your living area!! It looks so good! Homegoods finds are the best!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
I love day in the life posts. It’s always so interesting seeing everyone’s routines!
Rachel says
When are Mazen’s nap time and bedtime?
KathEats says
nap around 230 and bedtime around 8:30
sarah says
just out of curiosity, since i have a one year old who goes to bed at 7 (and i love it) do you prefer him to bed later and waking up later, as opposed to bed earlier and wake up earlier? i prefer to have time in the evening alone.
KathEats says
It’s really a toss up. I’d love a 7pm bedtime for the evening time to myself, but it also means we can go out to dinner with him more easily and attend parties and things. And the sleeping in later is a huge bonus. They both have pros and cons, but I am pretty happy with the later bedtime and wake.
Emily says
I love Relay Foods and keep hoping that they will carry Great Harvest products! Is this hope well founded? 🙂
KathEats says
They do have our bread!
Emily says
Oh. Lucky Charlottesvillians! I’m in DC (and we do have Great Harvest locations up here) but the Relay Foods in our area doesn’t offer any Great Harvest products.
KathEats says
Request it! I bet they could do it too.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Busy long as day! I only get up on a Wednesday now that early to hit the gym and so true, I almost look forward to it now that it’s not every day! Soup sounds incredible btw! And Mazen looks so big and grown up sitting in the white chair!
Maureen says
Such a busy day! Those nut butters sound delicious!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I know this is just a glimpse into your life, but you seem like such a great mom – Mazen always looks so happy and loved! And I LOVE the new piece you picked out from Home Goods – that’s one of my favorite stores!
KathEats says
Thank you <3
laura says
what time does Mazen go to bed? at what age did he start sleeping later? (i can’t wait for that?) and does Matt always go into work so late (7:45 seems late for a bakery owner!)
KathEats says
he goes to bed at 830 and has started sleeping later in the past few months. Matt just came off a month of 3:30 a.m. work So he is taking it easy a couple days a week. Remember he is a business owner and our wonderful staff do the early shift most of the time.
Linda @ The Fitty says
That athletic conditioning class sounds like something I would do since it sounds intense; I always love a challenge(although I don’t always approach it with enthusiasm!)!
I like how simple but delicious your meals are. The short ingredient list for even the ice cream has me nodding and smiling. Do you shop at whole foods often?
KathEats says
Yes every week. Love it there
Alyssa @ The Healthy RD says
I love that Lettuce Turnip the Beet picture. I’m always a sucker for a good food pun!
Catalina @ Shades of Pink says
Busy, busy but so fun., love reading these posts. M is getting so big, so tall 🙂 question, I really like you striped purple sweater, where did you get it from?
KathEats says
It’s Stitch Fix!
Dana says
What a great, jam packed day! Just curious – what time does M go to bed to wake up at 7:45??? JEALOUS, party of one.
KathEats says
About 830
Dana says
Same here… I just have an early riser I think. I’m jumping up and down if he gets to 7.
KathEats says
it used to be that way here too. 7 was a luxury. But I think Mazen’s pushed his nap back and his bedtime back and is therefore sleeping later.
Christine says
Random question, what did you do with the other half of the banana you didn’t eat? Sometimes I don’t want a whole banana but I don’t know what to do with it and end up eating the whole thing anyway. Thanks!
KathEats says
I stick it in the fridge in the peel and eat it the next day or later on.
Christine says
Thanks, I will try that!
Alli says
Just wanted to point out that there is a typo on the top of your bakery website. Charlottesville is missing an “l”.
KathEats says
Thank you!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Hahaha I love that there is a book called “goodnight construction site”… those are books I definitely never read with my nieces!
Chelsea @ TableForOne says
You’re days are so packed with fun! I am loving the new picture that you bought. It looks really nice!
mary @ minutes per mile says
love this post! makes me excited (and a bit scared, haha) to be a mom one day soon 🙂
Greta says
Can I ask you what type of case you have for your Samsung?
I have a very similar looking mint colored one by Rearth (actually it’s this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KIUGDR6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It looked like yours when I first got it but after a few weeks it started to look so dirty and no cleaning solution I have tried works. Any insight would be super helpful. Thanks!
KathEats says
that’s the one I have too and sadly it is also looking dirty
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Those nut butters look amazing.
Oh my goodness, did M go through a growth spurt lately? He looks SO tall!! 🙂
Amelia @ Eating Made Easy says
I haven’t read one of your ‘day in the life’ posts before – it was fun to have a peek into your day as a work-at-home-mom 🙂
Fancy says
Love this post and love getting an insight into more of your personal life! Do more posts like this one! 🙂
Kaci says
Thanks for going back to the post a day frequency! It’s nice to “check in” every work day.
Ashley says
Kath, what is that app that tells you so many details about your sleep? So curious!
KathEats says
It’s the Jawbone Up app.
Heather says
Ashley, you may want to look into the Sleep Cycle app, I got it for my iphone and my fiance uses it on his android so it’s available for both. We’ve been using it for a little over a month and really like it!
Dana @ fresh simple five says
Love the new piece from Home Goods! Looks perfect in your home. I’m jealous of all the time you spend walking during the day. Unfortunately, due to an office job it’s difficult to get those 10,000 steps in. I keep try though!
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
the new wall art is fabulous!
Christina says
How does your kitchen always look so clean? I don’t even have a kid and it’s a challenge.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
That Lettuce Turn up the Beet sign is amazing!! I love that for a kitchen 🙂
Heather says
Maze looks adorable in his costume! Looks like the practice paid off. 🙂
Oh also, we have the same high chair and I just lowered the seat so it would fit under our dining room table. You can also take the little center piece out of the seat, but I didn’t do that part yet because we still need the straps. Anyway, I didn’t remember this feature until I was heavy duty cleaning it and saw the notches for lower settings when I turned it over. We used to just pull the highchair with the tray up to the table, but this made meal time even better (I think R likes to be at the table like a big boy), although it is a little messier without the tray! Just thought I’d let you know in case you had forgotten, like me!
jen says
Thanks for a fun post! Life with toddler/preschooler age kids sure is busy and fun. My littlest is 16 months now and though I love baby snuggles and all, it’s so much more fun now and he and his 3 yr old sister are starting to love playing together. AND, by the end of the day I’m toast! Love seeing a glimpse of someone else’s stay at home life with littles.
Leah says
Looks like a nice, relaxing day! Mazen is so cute in his costume, though I’m curious as to why he still eats lunch on the side of the room? The two-year-olds I know would be insisting upon sitting at the table in a booster by now, haha.
KathEats says
He eats all his meals next to me at the table. I get him set up while I finish making the meal and then move him over. He actually likes his spot so much that sometimes he complains when I move him over.
Leah says
Oh, interesting that this is more convenient than just putting him right at the table. I love seeing how people have different routines for feeding and stuff.
Ellen @ Wannabe Health Nut says
Love these posts! Your productivity and efficiency is so inspiring. Looks like you have the work-from-home mom thing down pat. 🙂 Love Mazen’s hair cut, btw. He is too cute.
lea @ healthy coconut says
I love when you do this kind of posts, it motivates me to do the same too.
Any advice on camera settings when taking pictures of toddlers? I have an 19month old and I’m getting blurry pics 80% of the time 🙁 Your pics of Mazen aren’t blurry at all and wondering if it’s your lens or the camera setting? thanks in advance
KathEats says
I have the hardest time! I think it’s just luck every now and then!
Candice says
If you have a fancier camera, you can set it to prioritize shutter speed, which I would do high for action. If you have a regular camera, try the sports setting. Those toddlers move FAST!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
I’m currently obsessed with that pumpkin spice chobani. I can only find it at 1 store near me so I stock up like a crazy person when I see it.
Lindsay @ lifting in lilly says
I love this post! The wall art change looks amazing and this also brought back tons if happy memories of getting cards from my grandparents and my aunt for every single holiday! So special, I wish I could go back!
Lauren says
I really enjoy reading your day in the life posts – they are a fav!
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
Oh, that soup looks incredible. It’s amazing to see how much Mazen has grown. Easily the most adorable kid ever!
Heather @ Fit Mama Real Food says
M is such a cute Dino! Glad he got into wearing his costume. Hunter loves good night construction site too! We just got it about a month ago…anything construction is awesome to him. What a fun and jam packed Thursday! I miss the days of 5:30am classes (prekids)!
Leatitia says
You’re SO blessed. Being able to go to the gym in the morning with a husband at home, daycare + afternoon with your son… Very very blessed.
I’m alone with my son and finding time to work out is hard for me. I work full time and I have to get a babysitter if I want to go to the gym. I hate, hate working out at home. But I guess that’s what I’ll have to do. 🙁
Eva says
kath your life is awesome 😉 also, what’s the app that tells you your sleeping stats and how does that even work…
KathEats says
It’s the Jawbone Up app but apparently there are also some sleep apps that just use your phone.
Jess. says
Love these kinds of posts and I really really love the niece art for the family room. So glam! I love seeing your house/decor and I am seriously impressed with your cleared counters. Mine are always tidy, but there are appliances/utensils etc lined up along the back.
sarah says
hey kath, one more question for the night… i love all your stitch fix stuff- super cute. but the times i’ve done it it seems to me like i could’ve gotten something similar at tjmaxx for cheaper (i have indulged in it, though, just because it’s fun!). anyway, my question is if you have a monthly clothes budget? i know you’ve talked about budgeting before. and, what is it? do you stick to it? thanks!
KathEats says
I tend to balance it out over the year, and I don’t have a budget for clothes but a budget for “all personal stuff” which might include a pedi, massage, makeup, haircuts, and clothes. So if I buy too many clothes I paint my nails myself or go an extra month without a haircut : )
Rachel says
Love Mazen’s artwork wall–what a great idea. I would have been thrilled to have that as a kid!
Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork says
Sounds like a busy, fun day. Definitely what I would like my life to look like in the future (once I have a child). I’m sure the day was a lot harder than it sounded, though. I can’t believe how big Mazen is getting! He’s a little man!
Thanks for sharing your day with us. I always love when my fave bloggers do these kinds of posts. It’s always so interesting to see how our days are similar and different, how we all use the time we’re given in a day.
