Dinna Dawgs!!
Bilinski organic apple chicken sausage on a Flax Oat Bran bun! The bun totally made this meal!
The okra fries turned into okra bites 🙁 Matt accidentally chopped them up!
Still so good. Okra is one of my very favorite veggies!!! LOVE the sliminess and chewiness!
After dinner I had to run to Emily‘s to return her wedding rings. Got to play with her crazy dawgs and talk to her while she made dinner!
Currently gearing up for bed. Going to do some reading first! I almost bought The Help today but decided I should try to borrow it first. Thanks to Stacy for offering to pay it forward!
Nite guys!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I LOOOOOOVE slimy okra!! The slimier the bettah 🙂 I need to make some okra fries. My dad usually just stir fries them. I tried them raw the other day too…not quite as slimy but they sure make a quick snack!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
I don’t think I’ve ever had okra once in my life… not that I can remember. Must be an East/South thing? =]
Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales says
Me either – unless I’ve had some in a curry and not realised, which is a possibility! I’ve seen them in the supermarket but never known what they will taste like or what to do with them!
Angela (ohsheglows) says
I haven’t had it either! Must look for it at the market 🙂
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I agree with you and Allie!!! Okra is GOOD and sliminess is OK in my book!!
Erin says
It is RIDICULOUSLY humid and is raining here right now so tomorrow will be even worse. I’ve given up trying to do anything with my hair besides pull it up…
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Oh Kath…the slimy okra. I just can’t do it. I am scarred from childhood. Now that snack…I would have arm wrestled you for it! Looks like you had a time catching up! Have a great night.
Faith @ LovelyAsCharged says
Wow, I haven’t had a hot dog (well, faux hot dog) in ages! Even as a meat-eater, I always hated red meat. Either way…that looks fantastic! You’ve definitely got me craving one.
Maggie says
We love okra too! I haven’t picked it up in a while – thanks for the reminder 🙂 Will have to try it this way. I usually just saute it or put it in a stew.
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I am reading The Help now! It is very good!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
LOVE the Belinski chicken sausages! The factory where they’re produced (in Cohoes, NY) is actually only about 10 minutes away from where I live! 😀
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
The flax oat bran bun looks amazing – I love hot dog and hamburger rolls that have some whole grain texture to them!
Evan Thomas says
Ahh you’re totally making me want some yogurt with a cupcake for dessert. I will have to take care of that now
Camille says
I have never had okra but I really want to try it! That will definitely be one to pick up next time I’m at the farmer’s market!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
I wish I had connections for some special made GH buns, those look good and I could see why they would make the meal.
Crystal says
If you love okra, you definitely have to try the Fresh Market Okra Chips. They are awesome!
Eileen says
BLACKBERRY bran? That sounds delicious!
KC says
OH Yum, the bun and the okra look delicious!!!! BTW, Kale is REALLY quite good and the eggplant parm was fantastic. Put it under the broiler to brown up the cheese a bit more before serving.
Maria says
GH, please come to the Bay Area! That “hotdog” looks fantastic. Trader Joe’s makes some great italian chicken sausages as well. *Adds to shopping list*
Kristin says
I think I would still be hungry after that dinner . . . No?
Kath says
I wasn’t. It was a pretty hearty bun
KC says
OMG had to post again… Is that an R2D2 lamp behind you??? Say it’s not so. My son calls him R-Tootie!
Kath says
Yep!
Jenna says
I wish you were opening up your Great Harvest in So California! There are a couple in CA but they are all pretty far away from me.
Also, The Help is one of my favorite books! Enjoy! 🙂
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I really wished I liked okra… the texture just doesn’t do it for me.
Have a great night 🙂
Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf says
AAACK! I can’t stand slimy okra! The only time I eat them in fried, and even then I’m not totally taken by them. The bun+dog looks yummy though!
Shannon says
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, “The Help”. Enjoy! Also, that muffin looks terrific.
Hannah says
It’s so nice to see how smiley you are these days! Keep it up 😉 You deserve it!
Katie F says
The Help was great! I listened to it on CD (downloaded to my Ipod and listened in the car). It was fun listening to all of the voices since there are several characters. Hope you enjoy it!!
Chelsey says
I have never tried okra – it sounds yummy.
I looooved The Help – such a great book. You will absolutely love it.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Ha, you looked like I did after my run this morning! The heat is wonderful, isn’t it 😉 Your dinner looks delicious! I’ve never had okra, though. What is it like?
Alyssa says
Those look delish!
I love Amylu’s Chicken Sausages…they are all GF!!
~Alyssa
Heather says
I must mention the lamp as well lol!
Christine says
Kath- what kind of sports bras do you use/rec? I checked your q+a but didn’t see it at a glance. thanks!
Avery says
Just started The Help on Saturday! Can’t put it down!!
Laury @thefitnessdish says
I heard The Help was one of those books you just can’t put down!!!!
I need a muffin, like now plz..haha….loving the beer in the stemless wine glass, classy….loves it!
Mary Frances says
It would be nice to see update PIQs of the dawgs as they do change as they grow. Dog years progress much more rapidly than how children change (and that is fast too!)
Allie says
How do you make your okra fries (bites)!?
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
gotta get those buns – i hope they have them in pasadena!!!
Cara says
Yum, yum and yum!
The Wife of a Dairyman says
I have never tried okra. Maybe I’ll buy some tomorrow on my grocery shopping excursion.
thanks for the idea:)
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
Ahhh love hot dogs!
Emily @ Come and See says
Just finished The Help two days ago. Powerful novel!
cheers!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Why on earth did you have Emily’s weddinr rings lol?
Gah, you don’t look hardly at all sweaty after your run! Just abit shiny, but no red – I’m VERY envious! I look a mess after mine 😛
Kaci says
Yummy!!!!
Georgie says
I saw you were talking about portion control for Karen before, I was hoping some time perhaps you could talk a little bit on how much you think is a correct portion size per meal? Thanks
– Georgie
Kath says
Georgia,
This is so subjective that I couldn’t really do a guide. It depends on their person and their needs. But I think most people *KNOW* what the correct portion size is. Think about the 1950s 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
I could never get into Okra! I love the idea of it, but there’s something about the texture that turns me off. Maybe I’m just not cooking it quite right. 😉
Great job on the run!! 😀
Emily says
The Help is totally one of the best books I’ve read all year! Enjoy!
Sara @ myfancytuna.blogspot.com says
I really want to try that brand of hotdogs! And I LOVE okra too, thanks to you!! I’d never thought to eat okra that had just been roasted (I had only eaten fried okra – good, but not very okra-y) until I saw okra “fries” on your blog. YUM! It’s my favorite way to eat okra now 😀
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
haha those okra fries are like tater tots! I’m sure just as tasty as the other shape.
Angela (ohsheglows) says
I love how both of you both look better in the after picture- healthy, glowing, and glistening!!! A good run really wakes up the body doesn’t it?
Ashley@thehungryscholar says
I have never tried okra. Thanks for turning me on to a new veggie!
Brittany @ A Healthy Slice of Life says
How do you make okra fries? Does it taste like fried okra? YUMM!!!!
PS- I can’t wait to see what you think about The Help… I thought it was great!
Rosey Rebecca says
OMG I love that lamp! Where did you get it!? I must buy one for my boyfriend. Okra fries look so good!
Kath says
It’s Karens. She’s had it for 20 years..
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
Those sausages sound great…and as always your goodies from Great Harvest look amazing.
Wei-Wei says
Hahahha I love how it’s food with life in between. Totally the story of my life 😉
Wei-Wei
Amanda @ The Hungry Wanderers says
I miss okra!!! We’ve only found it in one grocery store once and it was $6/pound. Kale’s nearly impossible to find too 🙁
Joanne says
Great run!
That slim on the okra is why I avoid it. I think the only way I’ve had it and liked it is fried. But …ho-hum…don’t eat fried anything anymore. 🙁
Laura says
I’ve never tried an apple chicken sausage before…they do sound utterly delicious! x
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Sweating that much is a great reward for a great workout.
Kristen says
I recently bought a bag of frozen sliced okra that was on sale and I just couldn’t pass up the deal. Do you have any recommendations on how to prepare this like your okra fries?
Kath says
I have never made okra fries with frozen okra. You could probably put it in the oven and bake it nicely, but I’m just not sure how it would go.
