If there’s a hot power vinyasa studio in the town I’m visiting, I’ll do everything possible to go! Sadly I didn’t make it to Charm City Yoga in Towson, but since I had all Sunday to travel to Fairfax, I made a point to come up early and try out Dancing Mind Yoga! It’s a Baptiste-affiliated studio here and has all the components of a great practice: heat + power + flow.
The class was just what I was looking for. It was hard, it left me shaking, and most importantly: drenched in sweat. Some of my friends have said that I never sweat – that’s sort of true – I DO sweat, but it takes a lot to get me going. I need the heat to get the most out of my practice. ‘Heat from within’ doesn’t always work with me.
Jessie of the Messie Kitchen offered to try out hot yoga for the first time with me. [She had only done some cold yoga classes and she is now hooked!!]
She also baked some Amish Friendship Bread and brought me a loaf!! Can’t wait to try some of this tomorrow
After yoga I came home starving. I downed my Hungry Bar before yoga – my lunch was not very filling! And even with a snack, I was more than hangry for dinner.
Luckily I travel with dates – they worked perfectly to ward off a hunger crash so I could shower and quickly get over to dinner.
All future KERF meetups are going to be at Whole Foods!
So easy to coordinate. Always an amazing ‘menu.’ Something for everyone! I met about 15 new (and old) friends at the Whole Foods here for dinner. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening! The WF here is GINORMOUS and there were THREE big stations of salad / hot bar.
I loaded up and took these gorgeous photos ; )
The lighting in the café was awful
Highlights of this dinner were forbidden rice, chickpeas, some kind of spicy potato and lots and lots of wheatberries!
Also kombocha to drink (although this flavor was a little bland for me)
Amazing group of NOVA friends!!
It’s past my bedtime and I’m beat. Can’t wait to snuggle in my king size bed with my pillows!
Tomorrow AM Home Clean Home goes up!!!! I’ll be back at lunchtime live from the dietetics conference!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
Man sourdough cinnamon raisin bread, I hope you guys will be baking that soon! 🙂
Christina says
It takes me awhile to sweat too.
Yum, you definitely stocked up on the goods there! Love that last pictures. You guys look so healthy and happy. 🙂
staceyhealthylife says
Love WF and I can understand why it would be perfect for a get together with other healthy friends.
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
“some kind of spicy potato” sounds delicious. I so wish we had Hot Bar for dinner tonight!
Have a great night!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
What variety of dates are those pictured? They are much lighter than any that I’ve seen before!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I wondered the same thing.
andrea @ chocolateandoranges says
They look like figs to me?
KathEats says
Oops! They are figs – plus a date in there too. I call all dried fruit “dates” now 🙂
B & B says
I was wondering what they were – I was thinking dates must have shells or something…;)
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
“all the components of a great practice: heat + power + flow.” – amen!! My definintion, too.
It takes a lot to get me to sweat, too. I have never been a sweater, even for the 9 mos I lived in Phoenix, I swear, I just am not a sweater. Except..in a properly heated/door closed ashtanga yoga class.
Ashtanga is my love, the mother that gave rise to power, flow, vinyasa, Baptiste, etc and it’s the style I adore. If you do the ashtanga primary series, I guarantee you will sweat. I would love to do yoga with you! 🙂
KathEats says
I like the beginning of Ashtanga, but I don’t like all the floor stuff in the second half, so it never comes close to vinyasa. But it’s second!
krissy says
Loved meeting everyone! Thanks for organizing!
KathEats says
Ditto!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
So great to see you again, Kath! The remote controlled group photos turned out fabulous. I hope you get a chance to enjoy the sunshine tomorrow during the conference.

I’m excited for your home clean home post. I would honestly pay you to come get me organized. If only we weren’t several states away. My organizational and cleaning skills are terrible.

Love your Whole Foods choices, and I’m addicted to Synergy’s Kombucha. 🙂
Laura (On the Threshold of Greatness) says
Bummed I couldn’t make it to Whole Foods tonight! 🙁
But, I am super excited about HOME CLEAN HOME!!! 😀
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Whole Foods does seem like the ideal place for a blogger meet-up! I’ve had their food bars in takeout but never ate there. I have to try it next time, just for a change of pace. 🙂
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
I am obsessed with hot flow, but I can’t find it anywhere here in New Zealand! And I don’t really care for Bikram–I need the heat AND the movement
Laughter-Loving Stacy says
WF is pretty fantastic. And I should try yoga again… *ponders*

Ooh which WFs did you go to? The one I went to in DC was MASSIVE and had 3 bars too, plus it was right opposite a Starbucks – double whammy 😛
KathEats says
It was the Fair Oaks one
Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) says
I agree. Whole Foods should always be the place to meet. That looks like so much fun! 😀
Have fun at the conference tomorrow (today?!?)
Chad says
Wheatberries ftw!
Lauren says
I don’t seem to sweat very much either, expect in a spin class. I always leave that class drenched!!!
Lauren at Keep It Sweet says
I always love the WF salad bar. Looks like a really fun meet-up!
Christie {Nourishing Circle} says
I actually had that same kombucha on Saturday (while at Whole Foods :D) and agree that the flavor was very bland. I am actually making my own kombucha and am growing a “mother” right now – it has a couple more weeks before I can make anything with it but I am very excited to start making my own (and saving a ton!).
Katherine: Unemployed says
dance your cares aawayy; worries for another day; let the music play…

I love eating lunch or dinner at Whole Foods. It’s dangerous though… all that yummy stuff on display. I end up spending a small fortune every time!

Amish Friendship Bread YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!
I think I’m going to create my own hot yoga studio in my bedroom by turning the heat up. What do you think?
KathEats says
Invite me over!!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Hot yoga is definitely intimidating. It scares me… I’d probably need someone to go with me too 🙂
Stephanie says
I love yoga…but hot yoga doesn’t really appeal to me. That salad is gorgeous! And I smiled at the group photo…half the ladies are doing Powerful Pose in the front row, so the yoga lives on!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Yummmm! Your WF meal sounds amazing. I’m with you on the hot yoga – I need the heat to make the whole experience feel great. I just can’t seem to get into the practice when I’m cold/regular temperature! Can’t wait to hear about your conference today. 🙂
Hilary says
Mmm….looks delicious…sad for me that the nearest WF is over an hour away…but good for my wallet…on my first time there, I went a little nuts on at the salad bar and before I knew it, had a $16 salad!
Kristina says
That yoga studio looks gorgeous!

Katie @ Shared Bites says
Wow, no grass grows under your feet! You must have gotten that post up fast! It was great meeting everyone last night . . . I’m always pleasantly surprised at how fun the blogger meetup events are. Best of luck with getting GH open – will stop in if I’m ever in C-ville. 🙂
Brandy says
I’m jealous of your lack of sweat… I can’t even blow dry my hair without breaking a sweat and having to stick my head near the window A/C unit for a minute. (seriously….hah).
Liz says
I knew I saw you there yesterday! I was coming in as you were leaving and I almost said “I love your blog” — but didn’t want to make a fool of myself it that wasn’t you! The studio IS great — I usually do Bikram but found the hot flow yoga to be a fun change! Hope you are enjoying your time in Northern Virginia!
KathEats says
I can’t believe you didn’t say hi!!!
Angel7 says
