One gorgeous city!
Matt and I got dressed up to head out to a Davidson event this evening.
Guess what happened to me when I was crossing a street? A guy leaned out of the passenger side of a car and said “HURRY UP PREGNANT LADY!” [I was not walking slow at all.]
I can’t decide if I found this amusing or rude. Probably a little of both : ) But it was kind of funny to me that a teenager thought I looked pregnant. 6 months tomorrow!
We headed to The Local for drinks and cheese with Cville Davidson alumni.
There was a fun group from the class of ‘06 who we talked to for a while. It was nice to talk to younger alumni since we shared friends, classes and experiences.
I had a cranberry soda and a small platter of cheese + crackers
After chatting till about 8, we headed downtown.
I had had this yellow cereal snack after a long walk + conference call this afternoon, so that plus cheese meant neither of us was terribly hungry.
We discovered that Dierks Bentley was playing at the Pavilion!
Sneak peek of him from behind!
And then we bumped into part of the Great Harvest family!! These guys just ended dinner together. So glad they are friends and they are my friends! We chatted laughed on the mall for a while before Matt and I got hungry enough to break away for dinner.
When brainstorming quick service restaurants, we lightbulbed our way to the The Flat Takeaway Creperie! We’ve been wanting to try it out for nearly two years and our timing has just not been right. When we have been moderately hungry a few times, it’s been closed, or we’ve been too full after dinner. But tonight was our lucky night!!
They have savory..
And of course sweet!
We settled on one of each. The first a [local!] Babes in the Wood sausage, spinach, feta and cheddar crepe that was incredibly delicious!!
And the second, Mom’s Apple Pie – apples with cinnamon, sugar and butter. We alternated bites until both were all gone!
So glad we can cross this great little spot off our restaurant to-do list!
I think I walked close to 6-7 miles today, and my legs are ready to rest!
Janelle says
That looks so beautiful ! And wow what a rude comment that guy made! I would have been offended. When I see a pregnant lady i take extra steps of courtosy, like letting them go ahead of me in the washroom line or offering my seat. People can be so RUDE
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I love dierks Bently!!! What a fun evening, and gorgeous photos!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I CAN NOT believe that someone said that!!! …..I don’t know what I would think or do! Shock would have taken over my body- that is for sure. But wow!……. Gutsy move passenger guy shouting- gutsy move.
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
I loooooove crepes! Savory are my favorite….stuffed with swiss, mushrooms, and spinach!
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
I love crepes I make them almost every weekend for my husband, savory and sweet!! 🙂
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I think that is SO rude!!!! but then again, it’s a teenager…
Roxanne says
At least he called you “lady”…
Andrea says
I would say, yes I am pregnant and proud of it! 🙂 Looks like you had a great night. I’ve never had crepes before so I would love to try a little restaurant like that! ‘Night!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
YUM! I really do like crepes. There’s a place not far from my work that I keep meaning to try and keep forgetting…I should really go there. 🙂
Kara says
That crepe place looks great! Too bad the savory crepe wasn’t made with buckwheat flour, which is how traditional savory crepes are. (At least, it didn’t look like buckwheat.) You’d probably love one like that!
jen_alluisi says
Kara, they have buckwheat crepes (as well as vegan and gluten-free crepes) – but you do have to ask for those specifically. I’ve never actually tried the buckwheat because their regular crepe batter is fantastic, but maybe next time I will – I never knew that buckwheat was traditional for a savory crepe!
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
Haha, I love your title -very clever. And I love love love crepes – yummm! Those both look and sound delicious.
jen_alluisi says
I adore The Flat. I eat there as often as possible. It doesn’t hurt that it’s owned by a girl I sang with in college (though I rarely run into her there), but in addition to that, it’s affordable and delicious! And they use local ingredients and real food, their homemade drink concoctions are AWESOME (last time I was there I had a fantastic mint limeade)…they’re just fantastic. So glad you got to stop by!
KathEats says
Oooooo mint limeade sounds great!
Maura @ My Healthy 'Ohana says
I can’t believe that guy yelling at you! In general, I’ve found people go out of their way to be nice to pregnant ladies 🙂
Kelly Turner Fitness says
I’ve never had savory crepes. Whenever faced with the choice, I just can’t pass up sweet
Jen says
Kath, I love the jean shirt with the black shirt. Looking good!
j3nn says
That cheese platter is gorgeous!!! And the guy in the car was rude! No one should be so rude to tell someone to hurry across the street if they are clearly in the process of doing so. People can be so inconsiderate.
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Great pics of you ladies and love the cork-board. And oh, that “small” platter of cheese + crackers looks pretty fab, too 🙂
Shannon Bell says
Look at that bump! So cute!
Nescett @ BananaOats says
I’ve said it before, but your city looks like the most amazing place to live!
Sarah says
Who yells at pregnant ladies?!
(But, hey…cool, you are now a “pregnant lady!”)
Bizzle says
I think it is funny and rude! Funny for you as not too long ago you just couldn’t wait to look pregnant;-) Hey, at least he didn’t say, “Hurry up FAT lady!” Which has happened to me and is extremely rude. In general, I think hurrying anyone along is rude.
KathEats says
Yes, that would not have been funny!
Mom says
A friend of mine was walking with me downtown at a conference. She said, “You’re walking so slow.” I thought it was a rude comment.
Michelle@PeachyPalate says
Those crepes look and sound so good! Of course you look pregnant, though your still so neat and tidy! 🙂
Sara @ Real Fun Food says
Kath, that first picture is absolutely gorgeous!
Clare says
Ooo I had a crepe just yesterday – banana and cinnamon.. it was divine! Yours looks delicious 🙂
SkinnyRunner says
ive never had a savory crepe but id be all over that sweet apple cinnamon one like runners at a GU gel sale.
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Gosh…I have not had a crepe since childhood. My mom received a crepe maker and we loved to make them on the weekend drizzled with lemon juice and sprinkled with sugar all wrapped up. My mom would make this chicken divan recipe with the crepes that was truly divine. I wonder if she still has it somewhere in the basement! lol Looks like a great evening!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I hate when people shout at me while I’m walking! I always feel offended. 😛
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
I LOVE your kitchen curtains and the pop of yellow from the radio. Way to go with the sewing project. Very impressive. Your crepe dinner looks delicious. Glad you enjoyed your evening.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Those crepes look so good! 🙂 I’ve never had a crepe before but I’ve always wanted to try it! 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
The Flat sounds like a great spot! It must be great living near such a busy downtown area with so many places to explore!
Sana says
Hahah the guy was deff being rude, but I am glad you did not let it get to you 🙂
Cait's Plate says
Crossing places off your restaurant to-do list is the best! 🙂
Whenever I got to crepe places I usually go sweet and savory too. Gotta have a little of both if you ask me.
Also, LOVE Dierks Bentley! I saw him in Charlotte in December.
Lindzjane115 says
Hello to 2 of my students, 2 of your GH Family members, Jenny and Nicole!
I pass The Flat when I walk to the gym, and I keep thinking I need to go! It’s hard to find the perfect time for crepes, though. Glad you got to enjoy both savory and sweet. I love your pictures in this post!
Katryn says
You…look…adorable!!! 🙂
So beautiful!
KathEats says
🙂 Thank you!
Angel7 says
My thighs have been really sore since yesterday. I think being pregnant, and all the walking I did while visiting family for a few days made for really sore thighs. It took a day or so to catch up with me, and now I need to take it easy.

The creperie looks like a fun spot! After 6-7 miles, I can only imagine you’d need to put your feet up!! Holy cow 🙂
Erin says
I’ve been a reader before but never commented… I also live in C’ville but you are always mentioning places and activities that I’ve never heard of before. This crepe place sounds awesome and I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m on the downtown mall.
KathEats says
Fun! If you haven’t checked out my cville page, you can see every restaurant we have been to!
Tami Jo Eaton says
You are famous. People recognize you. You don’t look pregnant unless you frame your belly, so I bet he knows you. Even if I thought someone was pregnant I wouldn’t say anything, unless I knew for sure. Good thing you didn’t let it ruin your awesome evening. Pretty soon you will have to be manuevering a stroller on all those nice strolls. You must be getting excited.
KathEats says
I am sure this guy was not a blog reader 🙂
Amanda says
The pictures are stunning! The food doesn’t look so bad either! 🙂 I love the idea of oats in a jar. I haven’t tried it yet. I think I must have about 5 current jars of many different “butter” selections opened. When the first one gets bottomed out, I will have my oats in it for sure!
Amelia says
Oh, the things people say/yell to you when pregnant! I’ll never understand.
You look ADORABLE by the way. Can’t wait to see the baby bump “live” next month 😉
