Morning
The fun is over. Time to get back to work. I’ve got a lot of writing projects lined up and also things I’ve been meaning to do for KERF, so gotta get focused. I always say I’m going to go to a coffeeshop to work because it sounds so fun, but I never do! Kind of like going swimming, the thought of packing up my whole life to work elsewhere just doesn’t make sense. But it does help spark creative juices.
Breakfast this morning was to the point –
Pumpkin yogurt (1 container greek yogurt + 1/2 a cup pumpkin, pinch ground cloves, sprinkle all spice, 1 tsp pumpkin butter) plus half a banana, 4 little figs, half a seckel pear, coconut and half an Alliebar!
Textures gone wild

Krystina (Organically Me) says
I don’t think I’ll ever understand how nut butter can be $35 ON SALE.
M says
I have to agree!
I enjoy many aspects of your blog Kath and happy belated bday….
the opensky stuff/prices make me cringe when I know people can save so much more money by supporting their local
stores (rather than mailordering and having things shipped)and can find much ,much cheaper items that are still tasty and organic and support local businesses.
Of course if someone wants to spend that kind of money it is not really my business, but I can’t help but raise my eyebrows!
Amber K says
The prices scare me off as well. Off to the local store I go! 🙂
Lynda says
I agree. I would like to try some of these things but the cost deters me. It shouldn’t cost that much for these kinds of food items.
Tinka says
Definetely. Some of the prices are insane!!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Breakfast looks great – I love that bowl! Hope you have a good day Kath! 🙂 PS. – the sardines were a success! http://eatspinrunrepeat.wordpress.com/2010/10/27/recap-try-something-new-tuesday-28/
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
That bowl of breakfast looks awesome! Keep eating figs while you can – they are so close to being out of season! Sad story.
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
I love all your oatmeal combinations! You are always so creative!
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Love the quick and to the point breakfasts every now and then – especially after a hot workout, because they’re usually cold 🙂 Have a great work day!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Figs are my FAVORITE.
Shannon says
I don’t think oatmeal has ever looked that good.
Katie @ The Boston Marathoner says
I’ve never tried figs! What flavor are they most comparable to? They remind me of the color of fresh cherries or pomegranates – so pretty!
Kath says
I think they are kind of like plums. They are a bit grassy. Very sweet.
Katie @ The Boston Marathoner says
I’m a huge fan of plums – I’ll definitely try them! Thanks for the info.
Katie
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Figs! So good and I love the texture. Nice way to start a busy day! Have a great one Kath!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I always wanna go to a coffee shop but then I remember I have to ask someone to watch my stuff every time I have to pee. Plus no matter how many snacks I bring, I always get hungry! I think it’s all the delicious aromas swirling around.
Very jealous of your fresh figs right now.
Heather says
I have never tried a fig – I need to put them on my grocery list for this weekend.
I agree about packing up all of your stuff to go to a coffee shop – I have the same debate with myself about going to the library to study for school. Is it worth packing everything up and driving there versus just studying at home?
Good luck with your writing!
Hannah says
Even though its a little annoying to pack up everything, (I feel like I’m moving into the library every time I go) I always love the feeling of just getting out of my normal setting, getting some coffee, and being productive 😀
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
There is something about going to a local coffee shop to get the brain working 🙂
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
I think I would be more distracted working in a place like a coffeeshop. I don’t know how people do it! Then again, maybe not because then I likely wouldn’t have the toddler to look after too.
Tabitha (From Single to Married) says
mmm… granola looks good. Putting that on my shopping list this week!
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
i’m with you (and others) on the difficulties of packing up & going to a coffee shop or the library or what have you… but it so helps me focus because i just think the whole time, “i’m not here to procrastinate, i’d rather be home in my pjs with my husband and kitty.” then i can get stuff DONE! 🙂
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
I love the Halloween sale 🙂
I like to go to a coffee shop to read, but I can’t really focus too much because I am too busy people watching.
Ann says
Did you post about a good salad dressing with honey and mustard? Can’t find again and don’t see in your recipe heading? If so, please share.
Kath says
I make a homemade honey mustard that’s equal parts honey, mustard, lemon and olive oil.
Ann says
dry mustard or dijon?
Kath says
Dijon
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
love the line “textures gone wild” – you’re too cute 🙂 i love working at coffee shops…i get so much more done with fewer distractions there!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Good luck getting work done! I actually much prefer working at home– the distractions are so much less!
Camille says
Good thinking on that garlic gold. It’s always better to be prepared!
Allison K says
I really need to try fresh figs, I’m sort of afraid of them.
Also, your birthday looked fabulous. Those fall leaf colors!
Ashley @ Nourishing the Soul says
I definitely find that my creative juices flow when I’m in a new place. So I love trying to work at coffee shops, but also anywhere else I can get an internet connection – occasionally in an urban park, for instance.
Lea @ Healthy Coconut says
I use a noise cancelling earphones and even with that, I still get distracted when I’m doing work at the coffee shop. Library is where I get most of my work done, preferably a library with a coffee shop in the building and also a fire place. Gotta love it!
I like the creative Open Sky page for the promotion, so cute!
Natalia - a side of simple says
Great discounts for Open Sky, thank you!
Jasmine @ Eat Move Write says
You should definitely go to a coffee shop. I hate packing up my stuff, but I’m always glad I did. Different scenery is good for the writing flow. 🙂
I bet that pumpkin coffee there under Gina is a hot item. People die over pumpkin spiced lattes.
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Yayyyy a Nuttzo promo- off to go order some, it’s been a year since I last had any!!
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
Glad you had a great bday!! I go to coffee shops to work sometimes just because it makes me feel like I’m “at work”– not at home being lazy 😉
grocery goddess jen says
That bowl looks awesome. I have a serious Greek yogurt craving!
Sarah @ Sarah's Shaping Up says
I’ve tried SO hard to like oatmeal and I fail everytime! Maybe I need to look into some of your combos! Happy Wednesday!
Liza says
I love Halloween! I might have to get something from the opensky deal…must see what I need.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Working at home makes it really hard to get started sometimes! I can’t tell you how many different locations within the house we have tried; we even create seconds offices for a change of pace, lol. It’s hard being your own boss at times. 😉
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i always wind up doing my work from bed or my couch, which is so stupid since i have a nice big office! but i always get the most work done at a coffee shop – esp. one w/o internet!
Meaghen says
I love dried figs, but I’m not sure I’ve never had a fresh one. I may have to pick one up the next time I’m at the store. I really want to try one with a salad!
It wouldn’t matter to me whether I did work at home or at a coffee shop, it’s the access to the ineternet that is my downfall. As I type, I am supposed to be studying and here I am commenting 🙂
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
I was the same way in college! I only ever left my room to study if I knew I was going to be there for a LONG TIME. Otherwise it was too much work to gather everything I needed!
CMae says
Maybe the UVA library will let you rent a study carrel or cubicle? I rented one in grad school at Wake Forest, and it was LIFE CHANGING. I got so much done in there. Totally quiet, deliciously dark, and it locked, so I could safely leave all my stuff if I needed a snack or sanity walk. I think I paid $25 for two semesters.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Your breakfast bowl is full to the brim with all kinds of lovely flavors and textures. Love it! 😀
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
That breakfast bowl looks amazing!!
Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) says
Really love your oatmeal bowl Kath !! Is that pale purple ?
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Happy Late Birthday!
The Wife of a Dairyman says
I just love figs. My parents had a fig tree when I was growing up, it has since died unfortunately….hmm…..maybe I’ll buy them one for Christmas. I would love to again have home grown figs. {they won’t grow at my house….too many deer}
Jillian@ Reshape Your Life says
I actually bought garlic gold at the store the other day, I have yet to use it…
I’m deciding what I want to try it with first!
Brae says
Love love love that bowl…. where can i find it?
Kath says
It’s one-of-a-kind hand made by my neighbor 🙁
Dave from Running Tips says
It looks delicious and scary at the same time. I’m kinda’ afraid of the pumpkin.
Hope says
I always think it would be so super cool to go and sit in a coffee shop when I’m writing! I get far to easily distracted though!!
Amy says
You know, I’ve never had a fig before, but they always look soooo delicious in your pictures.
I LOVED the fall foliage pictures from your trip yesterday. I can’t believe that kind of scenery is so close to where I live. I definitely need to get out of D.C. this fall to see it before the leaves are all gone.
Jean@RoastedRootsandPumpkinSpice says
I love that bowl! It’s my favorite color and it’s gorgeous. Makes the pumpkin yogurt look dang good.
stacey-healthylife says
The figs look so pretty.
Hannah says
Oh, fresh figs! Be still my beating heart!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’m the same way about working at coffee shops! It seems like such a nice idea, but it’s just so much easier to work at home! One of these days I’ll actually do it. 😛
