Just Matt, me, the couch and a pizza tonight!
I decided I should root for Wisconsin since Matt’s dad’s family is from the state and also because of the cheese hats and my love for cheese and the work I’ve done for the Wisconsin Cheese Council!
I’m actually enjoying watching the football!
I actually know the rules of sports thanks to my dad taking me to Duke football and basketball games and Durham Bulls baseball games for many years. But clearly the commercials are the best part. I think they’ve been kind of lame. No ones have made me LOL yet.One funny thing: I commented early on that there haven’t been any good alien movies out in a while and all of a sudden the alien movie commercials started up! THEY KNOW!
I thought the halftime show was awesome! Loved those ALIEN people!!
A couplea drinks to start us out.
We paused the live TV to make up our pizza. Matt used whole wheat pastry flour to make a version of his whole wheat dough.
Toppings included peppers, olives, leftover pork and bland pre-shredded cheese Karen left here last week plus Nello’s Sauce, which made a perfect pizza sauce
It sure tasted amazing! The crust was very PANCAKE like!
On the side I made a spinach salad with avocado, soy nuts, dates, lavender salt and a drizzle of olive oil and honey (our honey is solid – hence the white blobs!). Cilantro for garnish!
A bit later we pulled out our leftovers from last night’s party and made sundaes on Sunday!
Apple pie with ice cream and caramel sauce
I’ve had this sauce on hand for AGES – a sample sent for review. Sadly, it tasted more like corn syrup than caramel so it is being recycled.
This tasted good, but now my stomach hurts from overload of sweet!
I really cannot remember the last time Matt and I spent this many hours on the couch. It’s quite nice!
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Glad you’re having a relaxing Super Bowl Sunday! It’s been a good Super Bowl so far, commercials and all.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
Bummer about the caramel syrup. Have fun on the couch! Sunday night is the best for that activity.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
The game has been kind of bakcground noise around here – I know what’s going on, but I’m not really watching. Meh!
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
Looks like you’re having a great Superbowl. That salad sounds delicious and gourmet
Sana says
I spent the day relaxing as well! Mumm that pizza looks amazing!
Jessica says
This post and your dessert inspired me to have a brownie & ice cream 🙂
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i’m with you, sometimes it’s nice to be a couch potato 🙂 especially during something fun like the super bowl!
stacey-healthylife says
I’m having the laziest Sunday in a very longtime also. Dinner looks awesome.
Kasey says
Mmm, apple pie sounds perfect right now. I convinced myself I wasn’t a ‘pie person’, but who am I kidding. The caramel apple spice drink at Starbucks tastes just like warm apple pie. It’s too sweet for a regular drink, but makes a perfect special treat!
Christin@purplebirdblog says
Glad you get to relax with your honey today! I’ve been slaving over homework, although my roommate did take me on a sushi and ice cream date for fun! 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I wish I couldn’t remember the last time I spent hours on the couch- it’s been happening with alarming frequency lately 🙂
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Oh goodness, the food blog world is absolutely killing me with pictures of pizza!! It is WAY too late to be craving a slice.
Your dessert looks lovely, i’m so glad you had a nice evening! The commercials were my fave part:)
Heather says
We watched the commercials and fast forwarded through the game – I enjoy college football much more than professional.
Was their sauce on your pizza? It looks amazing!
KathEats says
YES!!! NELLOS! Forgot to say – it was great.
Kristen, Sweetly says
Happy Super Bowl! I’m 70% in it for the commercials, too.
I’ve been wanting to ask you all week… Your photos are looking so fun recently, sort of like there’s less contrast in the colors, maybe? I see it especially in the photos of you outside, with your sunglasses. Is there a specific reason? They look fantastic, and I didn’t know if it was an effect, or a lens, or something else. Thanks, Kath!
KathEats says
I’m experimenting with different editing styles to change things up a bit. Just unleashing some creativity.
Kristen, Sweetly says
Well keep it up, lady! I know I don’t know what I’m talking about, but they rock.
Annette says
We had a nice relaxing evening together (with the husband) as well- and it has felt amazing! I too had some sweet stuff (cookies with soy milk) and I enjoyed it….no stomach ache for me 😉
Camille says
That pizza looks phenomenal. Now I am craving pizza like crazy 🙂
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
I really didn’t watch the game too much, I just left it on in the background.
Pizza looks amazing! 🙂
Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete says
We had the game on the whole time, but really never sat down and watched. Background “music” for the evening!
Emma says
do you mind if I use photo #11 my desktop background? because the sight of it fills me with joy!
KathEats says
Haha – go right ahead!
SmA033 says
I have the biggest problem trying to get my pizza on the pizza stone– how do you guys do it & still make it look so pretty?
KathEats says
We put cornmeal on the bottom and use cardboard to slide it on
Laura (Starloz) says
damn, i need a pizza cutter like that, it’s AWESOME.
Christine @ Merf In Progress says
I’m not sure what one can learn watching Duke football, lol.
Kiran says
Love the idea of pizza while watching Super Bowl!! I think everyone is a couch potato, at least for today 😉
Katy Jo says
Hi Kath,
Quick question – does that Kombucha give you a buzz at all? I know it supposedly has no alcohol now, but I had one in the office the other day and could swear I was feeling it a bit… just curious! Maybe it was a placebo effect. 🙂
KJ
KathEats says
I am very sensitive to alcohol (read one drink has me slurring my speech sometimes) and I have never – now or then – felt any effects from one. Maybe I just lucked out (or un-lucked out!)
Hannah says
Oh, how I wish I had someone to share a couch with 🙁
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
I agree with you about the ads – I honestly wasn’t really wow-ed by any of them..and Kim Kardashian’s Shape-Ups commercial made me roll my eyes. The pizza looks absolutely phenomenal though!
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
Yumm-o!!!!!!!! We made pizza too! Perfect food for tv =D
Kim Winson says
Hello!
It sounds like you had a lovely Sunday! I’ve been following your blog for a couple weeks now; I love your photos! When you mentioned that you grew up in Durham I decided I had to say hello to a fellow Durham-ite! (I’m originally from FL but Durham is now home!).
I’ve bookmarked this post for future reference…I love making homemade pizza dough. I can’t make your husband’s recipe just yet…I don’t have a kitchen scale but it’s on the wishlist.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers,
Kim
KathEats says
Hey Welcome!
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
Couch? What’s that?!
My desk chair, i.e. computer/blog stuff is where my butt is usually parked. I am a desk potato 🙂
“Sadly, it tasted more like corn syrup than caramel so it is being recycled.”–ok that sucks…i loveeeeee caramel sauce, sorry that one was a dud.
Baking 'n' Books says
LOL – I know, I’m always parked at my kitchen table -it’s the only “desk” I have.
Love the pizza!

Same here! Me, Chris and the couch…but really, could it get any better? Sundaes looked phenom! Even for leftovers…
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I agree, the commercials were kind of lackluster.
The pizza makes up for that, though! YUM And sundaes to boot? Sounds like perfect cough pickings to me. 🙂
Oh, and yeah, the cheese hats had me on their side just for that fact, lol.
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
Sounds like you guys had a really relaxing evening with DELICIOUS food! It’s bedtime right now, but that pizza is making me hungry! Mmm 🙂

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Today is one of those days when I’d love to spend hours on the couch! I agree that the half time show was great. Unfortunately in Canada we don’t get to see the cool super-expensive superbowl ads that you guys get, but I plan to watch some today. (Ours our just lame ones that really have nothing to do with football, sports, or Snickers bars!)
Lesley Lifting Life says
Looks like the perfect Super Bowl couch potato meal : )
Erica says
I have to say that the pizza looks ahhh-mazing!!! Seriously making my mouth water at 8am! Glad you had a relaxing day:-)
Haleigh says
Homemade pizza is so much fun and relaxing! Also, the pizza always seems to taste a million times better when it’s made from your own hands 🙂
Joyce @ Flowing to Fifty says
Hey, thanks for the pizza dough recipe. When I saw the pic, I was going to do a search of your blog to see if you had a dough recipe somewhere. I am on a mission to make pizzas that look as good as yours. Do you think you & Matt would come to my house to give me lessons? Oh, I live in Canada…….
Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
Yay for couch time! I’ve calculated – and it seems as though I spent 6 hours (!!) on the couch last night. That makes me want to get up and DO something today 🙂
Go Packers!!!!
Kara says
That pizza looks fantastic. I wish I was married to a baker 😉
Hope says
That pizza looks delicious!! I love homemade pizza. It always tastes so much better and is healthier than buying it. 🙂
Melomeals: Vegan for $3.33 a Day says
It looks like the perfect superbowl meal. I love that you started out with kombucha!
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
That pizza looks incredible! I made pizza as well, and my husband and I sat at home and watched a movie instead of the game (well, my husband watched both thanks to modern technology).
mary (whats cookin with mary) says
Your pizza blows mine (from last week) out of the water ?! I can’t wait to be better at the whole homemade dough thing.
Jill says
You must of gotten SOME exercise with all the jumping and cheering?!
Next time, come visit Matt’s distant family in WI and you’ll find out what the Packer obsession is all about… real cheese, local beer and all!
sally mae says
As a born and raised WI girl, I couldn’t help but get into the game too. I definitely had my fair share of beer, pizza, and sweets last night and was feeling it at work today too;) Thanks for cheering for us. It was a great game.
Also, I just put a post up about my homemade fig newton cookies and thought of you because you are always eating figs! I was thinking they would be a great and different thing to serve at your new bakery soon!!!!!! I be GH could make the best fig newtons:)
Maria @ The Fitted Apron says
The sundaes look to die for.
