Here’s a glimpse into cottage living at our new rental cottage!
Cottage Living
RIP my favorite magazine, Cottage Living! This house would have fit right in.
We are LOVING our rental cottage!
It is such a good fit for our needs right now. The cottage is so light and bright, and the indoor/outdoor flow is so nice. Like many magazine cottages, I feel like I’m living in a garden (even though the most of the gardens are all dead right now haha!)
Take A Tour! Cottage Tour on YouTube
I’m feeling inspired to cook!
We are also totally obsessed with the kitchen here. The windows are so lovely, and the workflow is great.
The countertops are almost exactly what we have picked out for our new kitchen. And I profess my love nightly for the single basin sink. Single basin club for life!!!
The windows provide such perfect food photography light!
Still on a salmon patty kick
Green Chef Meals
We’ve been doing Green Chef and are liking it! It has a healthier feel and the meals are organic too.
Family Dinners
Green Chef Cuban Chicken with Chimichurri
Tuscan Soup Night
Mazen made his own pork sandwich to go with! AND he ate Tuscan soup (a win!)
Birch eats sporadically

Linen Linens
Another great thing about our cottage are the linens! They are LINEN! I am so obsessed with the duvet covers and sheets I checked the tags so I could research the brand.
Lucky us they are sold on Amazon. The brand is Simple&Opulence. I can vouch that they are soft and lightweight and have a very luxurious feel! I also love that the button closure is hidden and tucked around the edge of the cover so the duvet does not poke out the bottom. If you’re going for cottage living at your house, these would be great!
I have my eye on this grey stripe set for our new bedroom : ) I love this style too.
My Work Station
We have a little green desk set up in the living room where we’re working from laptops. The view to the front is great, and the desk is comfortable enough!
Gus has been very happy!
In other news….
We got to go into Birch’s classroom with him for the FIRST TIME! The cov*d cohort parents have been deprived of so many of the preschool activities. He loved showing us his work, and the child is on the verge of reading!!! (Simple 3-letter words that is.)

Mount Ida Reserve
My friend Cindy and I went to Mount Ida to meet with the business development manager there on the most beautiful afternoon. What a hidden gem Mount Ida is! They have wine, beer, and food, and are kid and dog friendly. They even have a TV with March Madness going on in the bar patio. And the views are incredible of the mountains and sunsets!
A Court Of Thorns and Roses
I just started this series! It comes highly recommended by so many of my friends. So when I saw this book on the dining room bookshelf I had to laugh out loud!
And for those who have inquired, my pink slippers are Rothy’s!
Back at the home front….
Meanwhile, this is what our old bedroom looks like. I have a big demo post coming very soon! You can follow my Instagram Stories for all the videos!

You don’t realize how much you’ve been missing a single basin sink until you have one. I knew I’d truly become a Boring Adult when we first saw our current house and I got overly excited about the big, deep kitchen sink.
I’m also the parent of a preschooler and am glad I’m not the only one with dinner struggles. He loves to help cook but it’s so hard to get him to try anything new! I hope this phase passes soon.

hahahaha!! And same, same. B loves to help make dinner!

The “blue trapezoid” cracked me up because my daughter is roughly Birch’s age and the other day we got a “yellow triangle” in her backpack along with the same tracing letters of her first name.
Also same on the dinner fronts with kiddos over here, solidarity.
Kath Younger says
Haha!! Solidarity for sure!
Kelly Amber Haag says
Birch! ha ha
Yes, solidarity on the dinner front!

What’s the difference between cottage and a small house?
Kath Younger says
Charm, woodwork, character?? I’d say most cottages are small houses but not all small houses are cottages.

Cottage Living magazine was the best! Finding it had arrived in the mailbox always made for such a happy day! I was seriously crushed when they ended publication.

Hope you enjoy Court of Thorns and Roses! I have read all of SJM’s series and while they weren’t all hits for me, she does a good job of crafting a fantasy world. The second ACOTR is my favorite of all of her books, so hope you like the series enough to get there!
