Other than the fact that I slept poorly due to mucho excitement, it’s a beautiful day here in the new cottage!
Our mattress felt tilted all night (we have some wood blocks to help keep a sagging bed board up and I think they were not put back quite right) and I woke up at 5:26 ready to start the day despite being sleepy. The worse thing about insomnia to me is that my bed gets so uncomfortable. It’s like I just have to get out of it. Perhaps yesterday’s coffee was to blame too?
I’m not a napper, but maybe I will take one today…
Upon hopping out of bed I noticed that my surgery foot is SOOO sore and my legs really do feel the same that they did after my half mary last year. I had to hobble to the basement and dig behind lamps and kegs to find our box labeled “medicine cabinet” and was lucky that the ibuprofen was on top.
Breakfast was SO fun in my new kitchen! I am already so in love with this house!!
I had Siggi’s Peach (prefer plain flavor though) topped with frozen blackberries that I thawed out, a big portion of a Blueberry Oat muffin that Matt brought home last night, and the best sunflower butter eva.
My black teas are unpacked!
I’m SO excited to get moving! If unpacking were a pie chart, the biggest piece would be the kitchen and all the breakables that go with it. The rest of the house is much, much easier! Just gotta move all kinds of stuff around.
Have a great one!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I like your mental thinking in forms of pie charts! Enjoy unpacking!
Khushboo says
I know what you mean about insomnia- such a burden! That breakfast looks fab- fuel for unpackers for sure 😀
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
You WOULD be excited to unpack the house 🙂
Are the Oat Berry Muffins back?! I may have to swing by for a taste!
KathEats says
He changed the recipe – they are not the same!!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
Enjoy unpacking and getting settled in! I hope you feel better!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Gah, I know how you feel about the insomnia. I just got a new puppy and I was so excited to play with him this morning that I was up at 4:30!! (I know.)
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Ha ha – you should make an unpacking pie chart.
Mimi says
Can’t wait to see more pictures of the house — especially with your awesome photography skills!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I think kitchen stuff would be the biggest piece of my pie chart too! Looks like you’re settling in very nicely. Can’t wait to see more of the house!!
cat @ catsbellyfatcure says
Congrats on the new house. Sounds like you really like it. Your breakfast looks delish. Love nut butta on almost anything. 😉
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I’m not a napper either because it always disrupts my sleep that night but I’ve found a short, early afternoon nap is usually alright for those nights that I just couldn’t sleep. Have fun unpacking! 🙂
Meredith @ Food, Shoes, and Booze says
I loved looking at all the new pictures you posted yesterday! Hopefully you aren’t too sore after today 🙂 unpacking is WAY more fun than packing – enjoy!
Katie says
Sorry to hear about the insomnia, hopefully you find some time to rest and relax today. I am the exact same way about needing to get out of bed immediately and then I must get something done! Sounds like you are settling in and having fun doing it. Your breakfast looks delightful, love the combination of oats and berries in a muffin
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Haha, yes totally agree on that pie chart distribution. Kitchen + dining room China took us FOREVER! The rest of the house comes together in a matter of hours 🙂 Have fun unpacking!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
So exciting to have a new kitchen! Seems like you got a good place to take photos too 🙂
Samantha @ Bikini Birthday says
I LOVE moving. I don`t know why people hate it so much. I think it is so exciting to start fresh in a new space. It feels like you are starting anew.
Cait's Plate says
Ah I’m so glad you love your new place!
Also? I fully support that nap – sometimes even just a quick one can make a HUGE difference. The only problem is when you get to be a really GOOD napper and you nap too long – then you wake up feeling groggy. It’s the WORST.
We were on the same breakfast wavelength today – replace that blueberry muffin with Cville Cluster and you’ve got my breakfast 🙂
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Your nut butter looks especially amazing and melty today! We missed you at the Musselman’s trip too : (. Hope you house moving in is going well.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Have fun unpakcing! Haha I always like doing that 🙂
Jennifer says
You did quite a lot yesterday so I’m sure you are going to feel sore and a little extra tired for a few days. Aside from that, you sound SOOO happy! 🙂 This house is going to create a lot of great memories for you.
veganlily says
I bought my first house a few years ago and remember the initial excitement (and long to-do lists) so well. Congratulations and enjoy this time period! You are doing so well already, and I agree with your general approach – i.e., master bedroom and kitchen are first priorities, the rest can follow. Have fun!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Haha a pie chart. I liked that analogy!
I love fruit in yogurt. YUMM 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love unpacking — have a great day!
Hannah says
I hate, hate, hate insomnia. I get bouts of it generally at least one a week, and it’s awful. And yes, I star abhoring my bed. Usually I get up and fluff out the doona after it’s got all twisted, go to the bathroom, throw the pillow off the bed…
KathEats says
Doona!! My good friend is Danish and she always called down comforters doonas 🙂
Hannah says
Oh how fabulous! I only ever knew it as an Aussie term!
Marie says
Lol, I live in Denmark and a down comforter is called dyne in Danish but pronounced just as you spelled it
KathEats says
Oh good – clearly I don’t know Danish!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
A week and a half after moving back to our house…I still don’t have everything put away. It’s so clean now and I don’t want to put everything back where it was before. I feel like there’s a better way. I’m going to have to get this done soon though…I’m tire of the clutter being out. Good luck today!
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
Yikes– I hope your foot feels better!! Have fun unpacking–that’s the best part!
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
Breakfast looks amazing – and I hope your foot is feeling better soon!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
What a fantastic breakfast! I had a total breakfast FAIL this morning and am motivated by your breakfast once again.
I’m really trying to count my calories and am in total shock by how many I’ve been consuming… Trying to just get back on track and to not be discouraged.
Annie @ On a Back Burner says
mmm I love crumbling up muffins! It fools me into thinking there’s more of it 🙂
Mer @mersworld says
I never would have thought to crumble a muffin on top! It looks so yummy! Glad you found the ibuprofen- hopefully it will ease in the next few days as you get settled and everything back into the right positions! We ended up adding a memory foam topper to our mattress when it started to sag- for ~$100 it made a HUGE difference in quality of sleep!
KathEats says
We got a memory foam too – but it’s still sloping! I think because it’s not the mattress but the bed
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
Haha…you think like me. I love that you organized it all into pie charts. 😉
Gorgeous colors in your breakfast! 😀
The Healthy Hipster says
Tea and muffin breakfast! Just perfect. I’m going to be so sad when berries are totally out of season but frozen ones definitely still do the trick.
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Insomnia is the worst. I typically get it when I am anxious and have so much to do the next day. In other words, at the worst time ever, lol.
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Moving definitely left me sore too! The best thing about moving is purging out all the unneeded stuff and organizing a new space.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That breakfast looks like dessert!! Yum!
Elisabeth says
My granola came from Open Sky yesterday! I immediately had to try it – the CVille Cluster is delicious (I’m sure the other will be too)! I’m gonna have to get more… Good thing I’ll finally be near two GHs when I move next month (Upper Arlington, OH and Westerville, OH) 🙂
KathEats says
Whee!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
YAY! If I lived closer I’d bring you a Hanukkah ham as a housewarming!!! (jk) Have fun!!
Amanda at the red table says
Ugh. I despise moving, but it looks like you got through it unscathed, except for the soreness factor 🙂 Every time I move, I’m bruised from head to toe and exhausted! Have fun unpacking! I’m excited to see how you set things up. You’ve got cute home decor style!
Ashley says
Once our cabinets were finally in place, it took me daaays to figure out where I wanted everything! We still have yet to hang things on the walls too. 🙂
Kori says
I’m really sorry that you didn’t sleep well, and you’re absolutely right about beginning to really dislike your bed enough to have to just rise and shine. BUT it sounds like your new house is really coming together, and it’s all very exciting! I love the wall and draw colors that you all have chosen. So pretty! Can’t wait for more pictures!
Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather says
I totally get that uncomfortable bed thing! That happens to me sometimes and it’s no fun. Hope all your unpacking goes great today. So much excitement!!
Angel7 says
Maybe you will sleep better tonight!
Take it easy today so your body has a little break from all the hard work the move taxed on your body yesterday 🙂

lynn @ the actor's diet says
congrats on your first breakfast in the new home!
Hillary says
Excitement makes sleeping so difficult! Glad you had a great breakfast to wake you up ; )
Laurie says
Here’s a moving gift….Livingsocial.com has a deal for Whole Foods. Too bad we don’t have one near us…
Kena says
I just wanted to tell you that I LOVE your pictures! They are always beautiful! Have a happy day! I am happy to be following your blog.
KathEats says
Thank you!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
delicious looking breakfast! yogurt, muffin and nutbutter sounds like a good combo!
Living, Learning, Eating says
I’ve never done a muffin on yogurt, but that looks delicious!
And I know what you mean – when I’m up, I want to be UP. Having to lie in bed (think a few years back, Christmas morning) is torturous. Even now, when I’m older. And when there aren’t presents waiting. 😛
Rebekah @ Medicine, Munchies and Movement says
Looks like a great day at the cottage :). Hope your leg feels better!
Alaina says
The kitchen has always been the most frustrating part about moving! It’s the last that I pack up and usually the last that moves back in. 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I was a total insomniac last night. I blame the candy corn I ate before bed 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Sorry you have had a rough nights sleep. With al the unpacking and decorating you will be doing in the coming days.. hopefully you will tucker yourself out and sleep like a baby soon!
Laura G says
Maybe you have already done this in the past, but i would love if you had a post about all your favorite brands of peanut, almond, sunflower, pumpkin, apple, etc butters. I am always looking for good buys and good brands and I would love to have some input!
Jamie C. says
I will say, the Barney Butter is my new fav butter! What kind of sunflower butter would you recommend? I’m almost ready for a new jar!
KathEats says
I know I’ve done that before but I can’t seem to find it!
Top of the list: TJ’s Sunflower, Naturally Nutty Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower, Barney Butter, homemade pumpkin spice almond butter, homemade super crunch peanut butter, Nutty’s Butterscotch, Flying Squirrel’s, coconut butter, Nuttzo
Laura G says
Great, I am headed to the store today to replenish my nut butter stocks and I will definitely be on the look out for those! Thanks Kath and Jamie C.
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
Have fun unpacking! Cannot wait to see pictures!
Ashley says
You actually make moving sound fun! How do you do that?!
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Welcome to your new home! If I were your new neighbor, I’d bring you coffee cake (with a side of Tylenol…poor dear). I love your new paint colors! Very fabulous.
Nancy says
Can’t wait for a thorough house tour when everything is set up! No pressure 🙂 Also, I hope this isn’t prying too much but did you run into any trouble getting pre-approved since you are new business owners?
KathEats says
We didn’t run into trouble but that’s because we did not factor the bakery into the equation. We went off of my income as a professional blogger/writer/freelancer, which has a 3 year tax return history, and both of our credits (which are very good)
Katie @ BloomEveryday says
Your breakfasts always look so delicious! They are seriously the best way to start the day.
Lindsay @ bike before bed says
Glad to see you have your priorities straight! I remember after one move eating off paper plates for weeks!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I love the comment “dig behind lamps and kegs.” So funny if someone didn’t know you brewed your own beer.
Unpacking is hard, but it’s so great to feel like you’re getting a new start. The kitchen makes the home!
Karen says
Try to take it slower today, Kath. And, sorry about your stressed foot and your sleepless night 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
running off adrenaline! Good luck settling everything in. I have no doubt most everything will be in place by the end of the day!
Angela @ momethis says
I just tasted sunflower butter. OMG! Yum!! Where has it been all of my life? What kind do you use? Have fun unpacking!! Feel better. Hey by the way, today on Livingsocial they have a deal for Whole Foods Market.
KathEats says
I eat Trader Joe’s and haven’t run out enough to try Sunbutter yet – but it’s on my list to try
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Yayyy finally you’re there! How exciting Kath! Although unpacking isn’t “fun” for me, I’m sure that such a cute place would make it more enjoyable 😛 I also hope you feel better!! Perhaps your foot hurts from the weird bed tilt straining your back or something?
Lara @ TresLaLa says
I just don’t understand people who are not nappers! 🙂 I <3 naps. If I could have a nap every day, I bet unicorns & rainbows would sprout. Alas, a girl's got to work, and they frown on that here…
Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healthy Life says
Have fun unpacking and enjoying your new house! I just checked out the photos and it looks fab!
Emily@SavoryandSavage says
Congrats on the move. It looks like you have already accomplished a lot.
I think I would just rather live with the idea that cockroaches pooped on the dishes and decide it will boost my immune system rather than washing.every.single.dish…
Maybe the floor in the bedroom has a slight pitch to it – that would make the bed feel like it is tilted.
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I can’t sleep when I know I have a lot to do. You’re not alone in that!
Especially after a move. I am one of those obsessed people who really cannot “settle in” until things are unpacked and boxes are broken down and out of eyesight.
You are making amazing progress and the place looks awesome!
Caitlin says
Hi Kath,
All of your meals with sunflower butter have made me interested in trying it! Is there a brand that you recommend? I just looked at Whole Foods and both of the brands contain sugar. Are there any brands that don’t contain any sugar and are just whole sunflower seeds? I suppose I could make my own too 😉
Jamie C. says
i just got the marathon brand tonight…. it doesn’t have any added sugar at all, just roasted sunflower seeds and a little sea salt. i’m still undecided on it but it’s gonna be a great pairing with something a little sweeter (fruits and stuff)
KathEats says
Hey Caitlin,
The sugar amount is so small that it doesn’t bother me. I’ve tried a few of the very basic sunflower butters and don’t like them nearly as much
Kayla [once upon a lens] says
I just got home from high school. I rode the bus home and was walking home and saw a little OpenSky box on our front door! I immediately took it inside, opened it and had my first bit of Cville Cluster Granola. Oh em gee it is sooo good and i love the HUGE clusters!
KathEats says
!!
Sonya says
I just checked if UPS delivered the OpenSky shipment…and it did! Now, I just have to wait a little bit before I can go home and eat them! Thank you for your hard work! 🙂
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
SO happy to hear you are in love with your new house! <3
For some reason coffee doesn't seem to hit me until the middle of the night! I always end up waking up anxious and unrested. This is why I avoid it, sadly. I love iced coffee but I have to be 100% committed to knowing I will feel super antsy!
Siggi's PEACH!? Is this a new flavor?? I don;t think I have seen this flavor. I adore Siggi's… it is expensive but it has the most divine texture 😀
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I couldn’t sleep last night either. There must be something in the air! 😛
Laura says
I think you should show us how you pack all those breakable kitchen bowls, jars, etc. Do you wash them after you move? Details!
KathEats says
I wrapped them all in packing paper and stacked them into boxes and then I moved them very carefully.
Read the moving day post for washing details!
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
Siggi’s is so good! 🙂 I wish I could find it around here. It is a special occasion when I can get my hands on one!
