I am wearing jeans and a sweater. Cool beans. [Wish the sun were out too though!]
Our events this morning were great. We were double booked, so Matt and I each took one.
I handed out slices of bread for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s
I had a fabulous group of UVA volunteers at the stand – which was mid-walk – who helped with the bread. (They were passing out water.) They were such a sweet bunch! We had about 700 walkers cruise by in about 20 minutes and got as many slices to them as we could! Everyone seemed very excited : )
After the walk, I walked back on home and then changed into running clothes to head to Matt’s event – a fundraising bazaar to benefit the Play On theater
Matt was there selling breads + sweets. I helped out for a bit and then ran back home. I cannot tell you how life changing this move has been! Going to both of these events would have been so much more complicated with our old house as a home base.
Home again –> shower –> housework –> lunch
Leftover noodle stir-fry with leftover salmon and blue cheese plus Grawlnola on top.
Rooibos to drink!
Have a great one friends!
Sana says
🙂 sounds like the move is already a success!

That is such an awesome event that you helped out with! 🙂

I’ve never gone to a race where bread was handed out. I’ve only seen bagels post-race, but I don’t think that compares to GH during a run or walk. I bet the participants were glad y’all were there!*
Kerry says

I am one loyal KERF follower but find myself more and more jealous (sick actually) that there is no Great Harvest Bread Company close to my house! Your breads make my mouth water…:) Looks like you had a fun morning…weather gorgeous here south of ATL, put 26 miles on my bike this morning!!

Thanks to you guys for volunteering your goodies and time for the Alz Walk. My uncle suffers from a devastating dementia disorder that started way too young and progressed rapidly. My aunt (and all of us) are huge fans of the Alzheimer’s Association and the work they do!
The GH canopy and table drape are so adorable! Love it!
KathEats says
So sorry to hear of your uncle. My grandmother had a similar dementia and it was very sad.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says

I love how involved y’all are in your community! I think having a centrally located home is key – it’s something The Boy and I want in our future. I want more walkability!
Christy says
Just curious…sometimes you call Matt by Kanz and your sister Larbs? Are these nicknames? I’ve been reading you’re blog for 9 months & love it. Please forgive me if you’ve answered this question many times.
KathEats says
Yup those are nicknames!!
Kanz goes back to the college days – I never EVER call him Matt when I address him (part of the reason why he was “the husband” for so long on KERF
And Larbs is her childhood nickname too – also never call her Laura! We’re weird.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says

And good for you for giving back…that’s awesome Kath 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your night, I’m sure you’ve got some fun things planned!
Karen says
Nice work today, Kath!
I find the best way to get away from my own misery is to give to others — time, money, support, whatever!
Glad you had a rewarding Saturday!
Sally Anne @ PaleoRunnerGirl says
My husband has been involved with Alzheimer’s research at Washington University and at UPENN, so it is a cause near and dear to our hearts. I think that is SO awesome that GH is such a presence in the community. Y’all give back in so many different ways! Way to go, Kath and Matt! 🙂

Just wanted to say thanks for supporting the Alzheimer’s Walk. Our walk is on Oct.01, and this will be the 2nd year for our family, in support of my youngest brother, who’s in the early throes of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Seeing support all over the country is heartwarming. Thanks, Kath.
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
I love that tea is in almost every post now!
Jenna says
That closeness would sure be nice, it’s good that you get to enjoy it. 🙂 I’m still trying to work out the logistics of hopefully biking to work, but I’m a bit scared with the streets we live by. 🙁
Katie @ Plates and Paste says
I love how involved you two are in the community. I’ll be doing the Walk to End Alzheimet’s next Saturday here in St. Pete FL. It’s a cause near and dear to my heart as I lost my dad last year to dementia. Also, I’m a big theater person so also glad that you are helping the arts. A group of friends and I started up a non-profit theater company a few years ago and it’s people like you that help us succeed!
Lara @TresLaLa says
Just did a big race today, and was so grateful to the people handing out water & Gu, etc. Thanks for doing what you do!

Whats Grawlnola? Is it anything like granola?
