Coming home (to the blog)
This post was supposed to be my first one “back to work” in a month. However I could not help sneaking in some of those lifestyle posts during my August break. And what I realized during that time is I need / want to be doing MORE lifestyle posts.
I have gotten so caught up in working ahead, an organized schedule, and flexibility in my week, that I almost abandoned lifestyle posts.
I’m not saying I’m going to be sharing 3 meals a day (how did I ever have time for that?!) but I definitely want to sprinkle in more in-the-moment real life posts for you. I can tell from my backend dash that they are what you want, and that’s what I want to give.
Making Smoothies Together. New stool is perfect for sitting!
Last Days Of Summer
On Birch’s last day of summer, we took a day trip to Richmond to visit Brittany of Eating Bird Food fame! We got to see her beautiful house and swim in her pool!
Birch and Olivia played and had their lunches together.
Brittany made her Greek Yogurt Chicken Salad plus some extras on the side, including homemade sourdough from her mother-in-law!
I also got a demo of her Ninja CREAMi. What a cool appliance! It can make soft serve ice cream and milkshakes with mixins just like the ice cream shop. The peanut butter protein chocolate ice cream was VERY good! Better than I thought it would be! The texture was fluffy and so smooth.
Maymont Gardens
After we said goodbye to Brittany, Isaac, Olivia and Tucker, Birch and I drove to Maymont Gardens for a short hike to visit the animals. We fed the goats and mooed at the cows. I loved seeing the little fox!
We spent the rest of our summer day like this once we were home:
Plus paying Lego MiniFig Mixup which is where I take all the minifigs apart and Birch builds them back! It’s a great way to spend the time.
Birch’s First Day
Birch started the kindergarten year at his school last week! This is his third year in the primary room, so he will be getting the kindergarten lessons, although he was too young to go to public school KG this year. He’ll go to public school kindergarten next year : )
Four years of school!
Easy Transition
This year he has the same teacher, same friends, and same school obviously, so his first day back was all excitement and no tears! Wahoo!
Loving Light
The light in our new bathroom is SO much better!! Also, today is the last day to get a free Cheeky Clean Highlighter free gift with a Beautycounter purchase of $125! Try the new Water Cream to fill your cart!

Green Smoothie with Cottage Cheese
This has been my protein powder of choice lately
Hugh Jass Salads
with candied pecans and orange marmalade dressing!
Blue Apron Gnocchi with Pancetta
This recipe was so good! That’s an NA wine, by the way. Still loving Surely!
Cast Iron Steaks
Our second Blue Apron recipe of the week was seared steaks which we cooked in our new Lodge cast iron skillet. It went great! And cleaning all the grease splatter off the induction cooktop was SO EASY!
Love this recipe with the everything bagel drop biscuits.
Sports
I went to a Labor Day workout in the ACAC parking lot. I test drove this new Nike sports bra and it’s AWESOME. Perfect for high intensity and super supportive. It also closes like a bra in the back so it’s really easy to get on and off! I’m doing some reviews of Nike gear for #Nike365 this fall and will share more of what I got in an upcoming post!
Super Moon
Did you catch it? We were glad to have shades in our bedroom it was so bright!!
Wendy says
Congratulations, the renovation is amazing!
As a very very VERY long time follower I absolutely enjoy your lifestyle content! I have made quite a few of your recipes over the years. Take care!!

Thank you Wendy!

Holy moly. I saw that Supermoon and gasped. While I’d heard about it for the news, I wasn’t prepared when I stumbled upon it on an after dark walk. The best way I can explain my unexpected reaction is I thought a benevolent fireball was heading towards us.
Great job to Thomas and team on the construction. The house is amazing.
Kath Younger says
Haha yes, it almost looked like a bright streetlight it was SO bright!

Would you share which induction stovetop you purchased? We are building soon and I have decided to go with induction. Thanks!
Kath Younger says
This is the one we bought. I have a post on our new induction cookware coming tomorrow!

Kath
I haven’t replied in quite a while but I’m SO happy about your home transition
Looks like you came through with flying colors.
I agree with your decision to do more spur of the moment posts but I believe all your readers will stay with you no matter what you share
Many happy years and memories in your beautiful newish home!
Kath Younger says
Thank you!

You know I’ll read whatever you post but I love lifestyle posts the most! Please keep em coming!
Birch is looking so grown up & so much like his dad!
Katie says
I love a good rec for a high-impact bra! Looks like a lot of people like the Alpha — it’s out of stock in so many colors, including mine, womp-womp. Looking forward to more tried and true sports gear recs from you!
Kath Younger says
Oh darn! They have quite a few different versions of it, so see if there’s another one that might work!

I just finished reading Lauren Fleshmen’s new book. Hearing again and again from female athletes how awful Nike treats women, I cannot support the brand. It is disappointing to see you accept a partnership/sponsorship, particularly when you seem to value Brand voice and messaging like with Beautycounter.
I love so much about your blog and hope this feedback is constructive, because I don’t mean for it to be snarky or mean. It’s hard to keep up with all the latest about which company or celebrity is behaving badly! The book is a great read 🙂
Kath Younger says
I actually wasn’t aware of this. Have they made changes?
Sarah says
The book just came out so I don’t think they have. To be fair, I think it’s hard for a regular consumer to know much about athlete contracts and some of the other complaints. I can say they have not done a good outreach acknowledging their faults. In today’s environment, if they aren’t obviously, loudly supportive of women then they are opposed.
Elizabeth says
Do you have any posts about high protein lunches? If not, please consider this a request for one!
Kath Younger says
I don’t have one by that specific theme, but this one might help: https://www.katheats.com/how-to-stay-full-longer
