The new porch has been christened with our front-porch table and chairs (formerly our kitchen table). I love how open the porch is right now and the thought of filling it with bulky furniture frightened me. Once the table was in place, I didn’t really love the view anymore.
Until I added two beautiful antique teal Ball jars. And now every time I glance that way I light up inside. The color works magic! #thelittlethings
Matt and I have done a lot of lounging around this Sunday. It’s the calm before the storm of Christmas week at the bakery!
I’m also about as organized as I have ever been in my life – all the bills are paid, the house is organized and clean, all outstanding projects are complete (except for one I’m saving until January and a few ongoing things), I’ve got all of our travel docs in order for our trip next week, laundry is done, sheets are clean, kitchen is clean, meals are planned [roughly], there is a fair amount of food in the fridge, Christmas presents all wrapped, cards all sent, budget balanced. Days like this are what Sundays are all about. We are ready for the week ahead!
Part of our lazy day included a walk downtown to get just a few vegetables to bring to a party tonight. It’s gorgeous out there!
Pumpkin aka El Leon came along for the ride
And then back at our house, we found him wishing himself inside. This is his favorite perch! He often scares us by jumping up there after dark.
I so wish we could bring him in, but his dander would send Matt right into a Kleenex box.
Lunch occurred earlier. We both made giant salads full of the goods.
Mixed greens, carrots, hummus, peanuts, currants, cheese, olive oil, salt, Cville Crunch, clem
Pure H2O
I have a workout planned next, followed by a hot shower and Christmas Party fun!

Don’t clutter up the porch! There I said it… those two antique jars look great against the wood. I am hoping my house “renovation/cleanup” looks as lovely as yours!

I wish for one day in my life I could feel that organized and accomplished. How do you do it?
The cat is too adorable. I love taking care of animals, mine or anyone else’s who come along.
KathEats says
Working from home helps 😉 But it’s also the way I’ve been my whole life. I used to rearrange my bedroom all the time!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
El Leon is so adorable!!
Love the porch with the table + jars. The jars add just the right amount of color. I dig it. You have fantastic lighting for your photos. And yay for being ultra organized! What a relief. 🙂
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I love it when you sit back and admire a room and can feel the vibe, the peace and just be like….ahhhhh. Makes all the effort that went into it 100% worthwhile. Lovin’ the vases. So pretty!

I had the same kind of Sunday myself: got organized so I could spend the rest of it being a huge bump on a log. Perfection!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
there’s a cat that sits outside our window too (and taunts my dog)
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
The antique ball jars reminded me of how my step dad used to put glass jars and such up on the roof of our house and just leave them. I don’t remember how much time passed (but do know it took a while)… he would retrieve the items and they would be a neat shade of purple or blue like you have on the table. So, as far as I know… its the sun that antiques these things thru the ages. 😉
Roxanne says
Too bad you don’t know how long. I would have liked to try it, I wonder if I put them in the window it would change colors or does it have to be outside?
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I tried to find it online. Looks like you can keep them in the window, too. Takes several months – from the article. It says the glass will turn purple due to the magnesium in the glass (but not all glass has magnesium).
KathEats says
Wow, that is so cool!!
Amanda says
I really like the teal jars. Your porch looks awesome!
I wish I could say this is the most organized I’ve ever been, but a new puppy is putting a wrench in my plans. Looking forward to some time off for the holidays so I can get my life back in order. 🙂
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
Love that salad bowl! So pretty! I have a love of white bowls apparently!
Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles says
Your porch table looks so inviting…were you tempted to have your lunch out there? I would be! The blue glass jars add a touch of sparkle…perfect! Have fun at your party!
KathEats says
It was way too cold!
Sarah (I Dream of Beets) says
I am so jealous of your organization. I’m FINALLY emptying stray boxes from our move that have been taking up the guest room. Oy, to have your organizational skills.
Roxanne says
Some people just have the knack, some people are born organized, some people work hard at it, some people wing it and don’t get the results they are looking for.
Me, personally, I need to “just do it!”.
Amanda says
I love the feeling when everything is organized! 🙂 And your jars look beautiful on the porch!!The perfect amount of color!
Anne says
Doesnt it feel awesome when you’re on top of things? That is definitely my goal for this week 🙂
Angel7 says
Has the bakery been busy the past few weeks?
Where are you both traveling to next week? I remember you had everyone guess where you and Matt are going, but I forget.
Has Pumpkin (A.K.A. El Leon), the cat, been snacking on too much of your pumpkin, and that is why you are calling it Pumpkin? (LOL) Or is that it’s real name?
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
KathEats says
Yeah it has!
We’re keeping our trip a secret for now – gut instinct just says to 🙂
Holly @ thefrozenpineapple says
Your preparedness is making me so jealous! I’m usually so on top of things, but with my finals STILL not over (chem is tomorrow night!, then bio…) there is more left on the to-do list than off! Christmas cards aren’t mailed (heck, the letter isn’t finished and the photo isn’t even taken), presents aren’t mailed and I had to resort to a boxed-mix of lemon bars to whip up for my husband’s office party tomorrow b/c I just do not have time for anything else! AHHHHHHHH! Not to mention the lack of food in the fridge, a million things left to do and we’re leaving Friday. This is what I get for taking 15 credits of science my first semester back to school in six years…
Roxanne says
Don’t give up, it’ll all be worth it!
jojo says
You can do it!
Think it’s almost done, and you’ll get to relax 🙂
I over did myself a little this semester as well, but glad that I finished strong!
KathEats says
You will survive!! GOOD LUCK!
Lorin says
Your salads always look so good! I think you show that if you have healthy food in the fridge it’s easy and tasty to eat healthy.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Your organization skills seriously amaze me~that’s one of my lowest “gifts”…haha, I guess that means it’s not my gift? lol. Ah! I love cats and love my fiance’s cats, but my eyes are soooo incredibly allergic to ’em that we might have to give them to his mom. I feel Matt’s pain.
Bee Goes Bananas says
I can’t get over how much I love your gorgeous couch! The white and black stripes are modern, yet timeless. It’s something I can see in my own home! Where did you find it?
I also love your new porch. It’s so bright and open! Perfect for taking food pictures.
KathEats says
Thanks, it was Karen’s and I think she had it custom ulphostered
Shara says
Hi Kath,
We had the same problem with a stray cat that we finally took in and now is our indoor cat. I went online and talked to a Vet about the dander. Ben and I are both pretty allergic to the dander. He said first to start feeding the cat as pure food as possible like a organic type cat food with no wheat or gluten. Then when the cat comes to cuddle wipe her down with Whisker City fragrance free kitty wipes. She may love this. Do it like twice a day and for a week solid and then comb her with a shedding comb. The let her in the house a few hours a day and let her mark her scent through out the house. Also use pine litter this will help as well. Then have your husband wipe her down with the wipes a few times. This will get rid of the remaining dander and help him to. The process takes a few weeks but o so worth it to give a lovely kitty like that a warm home like yours. Your husband should be fine and notice that he reacts less and less till nothing. The key is the food and also once she is in do not let her out too much. We buy this brand: http://www.castorpolluxpet.com/our-products/for-cats/cat worth every scent because now we can have Cashmere in our lives without the swollen eyes and the sneezing.
hope that helps,
Shara
KathEats says
Thanks for sharing Shara, but Pumpkin has a home already!
Liesl says
Just wondering where did you get the fabric that is underneath your salad bowl and water glass in the picture? I’m looking for some like it and haven’t had any luck.
Thanks!
KathEats says
It’s a tea towel from Target!
Khushboo says
Peanuts in salad..need to get on board with that!
Elisabeth says
It’s often the little things in life! The Ball jars give just the right pop of color to the new porch 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Love the table with the Mason jars. I have quite a few of the antique jars. They’re my favorite for storing beans, grains and pasta.
Cait's Plate says
I love the Cville crunch bread addition in the salad – that’s such a good idea and something I really need to start doing.
Allison says
Silly Q, but what are currants? My momma always has to have currant jelly for Thanksgiving because that was a tradition in her family [but she never actually uses it, ha!]… I always think of tossing some fruit into my salads but enjoy it as a side 😛
KathEats says
They are like little dried blueberries or raisins
Lindsay says
You go girl! You’ve been a busy christmas bee and I wish I was on top of it! We’re close, only thing left is to tackle our office~ the looming pile of papers is intense!!
