Go Anna!!! She wanted to get in a hard workout before we started our day (I was up for anything!) and the gym was closed – so we ran in 20*!! We ran about a mile to a local track and did about 2 more miles there. I did some sprints during the 3rd mile (I used to do those when I was in high school all the time around tracks – sprint 1/2, jog/walk 1/2) and then we ran home. It was probably about 4-4.5 miles. We were icy cold but it was SO WORTH IT!
I think the whole time we were running we were dreaming about the pumpkin oats on today’s breakfast menu! (And of course the local coffeeshop’s Snickerdoodle coffee!)
Today’s Blend:
- 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt, half banana
- 1 tbsp raisins
- 1/4 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
- A bit of brown sugar and cinnamon
- Small sprinkle toasted almonds
- Spoonful Cinnamon Honey PB
SO GOOD!
We’re bundling up and headed up to the bottom tip of NC Wine Country to taste a few NC wines (I’m driving so Anna’ll have to taste them for me!) Then we’re doing lunch out somewhere around here. Hope you guys have wonderful Saturdays!

Good job, it’s always so hard to run when it’s cold out.
Who is the cute puppy?
Betsy says

Darn! I wanted to punk out on the outdoor morning run, but you guys inspired me, so I guess I can’t. It feels like 15 degrees in nyc this morning, and I fear it will be even colder for the turkey trot thursday morning!
Thanks (?), enjoy the wine! 🙂

yaay, feeels so good to have the cold run out of the way- and now all toasty warm from oatmeal awesome-ness! have a great day 🙂
Krista says
You guys are brave to run in the cold. I find that my lungs get sore when I run in colder weather.
I had a pumpkin breakfast, too! YUM!
Cute doggie in your picture! 🙂
Catherine says
Oh I love running in the cold. Whenever I feel like stopping I just think “I’ll be home and warm so much faster if I just push a little harder” and end up getting in an awesome workout.
Shelby says
Sorry but I saw snickerdoodle coffee and then I blocked out all of the rest of the post dreaming of said drink haha
Shannon says
I’m going to have to try some of that cinna-raisin PB…
I remember sprinting in track too! We would jog the turn and sprint on the straightaways for about 6 days. My butt and legs were hard as rocks!
Nellie says
where did the puppy come from? he’s adorable!
oats of course look amazing. i hope you’re both nice and toasty now. enjoy your day!
Mara says
20* running??? ARE YOU NUTS???
Biz319 says
The snickerdoodle coffee would be the ONLY thing to motivate me to run in that temp!
Hooray for sticking with it!
Andrea (Off Her Cork) says
Oooo I love cold weather running so that’s right up my alley! 😀 And that’s the best part about cold weather runs is coming home to coffee and oats!
bobbi says
you two looks so cute!!! I give ANNA MAD PROPs for being out there with you!!! HAVE FUN WINE TASTING!
ashley (sweet & natural) says
Wow! You ladies are very hardcore. I got in from a cold cold walk an hour ago and my nose is still trying to get warm!
Marisa says
That’s amazing that you can run in the freezing weather ! I’m “trying” to run outside here and there, but it is sooo much harder than on the treadmill. Maybe I just don’t push myself enough past that, “oh no, I’m gonna throw up” phase!! Any tips??
Moran says
You both are really brave! I would never head out when its this cold!
Mel says
You guys are hardcore! It’s just too cold!
Hope you guys have a wonderful afternoon!
rachelfresh says
Wow you guys are champs! Kath, you should open up a spa/bootcamp, I’d definitely sign up 🙂

Hey Kath! You are such a motivation- running in 20 degree weather- go girl! I am not sure if I could do that! Your oats sound yum…and snickerdoodle coffee?! Snickerdoodle is my fave cookie 🙂
Happy Saturday!
Oh She Glows says
Good job on the run today!!!
Unfortunately it was only 14F outside here this morning and I just wasn’t up for that cold! I had a nice toasty run on the treadmill instead. 😀
Have a great wine outing!
Maggie says
What a cute dog! I’m going to guess you guys asked someone who was out walking their dog to take the pic?
I’m trying to motivate myself to go run right now and now I definitely have to because it’s only 52 here and I would be a wimp if that deterred me, hehe.
Have a great day!
Samantha says
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed the mystery dog! Too funny.
I think I’ve given up running outside for the winter. Sad, but its friggin cold!
runjess says
Cold runs make me crave oatmeal too.

Doggie is our next door neighbor. He is VERY mischievous and likes to hide behind my car when I back out of the garage. He also likes to jump into photos and the husband encourages him to jump on me!
Mara ,
Yes.

The dog is great! Kath – you should take him with you on your runs! …coming from a voice of experience after running w/ my GSD, “Shane”. He is all over my blog. Good to know you have a dog loving fan club! By the way – good job on the run. We here in Upstate NY know exactly what a 20 deg. run feels like.
Megan says
I love Snickerdoodle coffee! I bet it paired well with the pumpkin oats!
Jennifer says
Sarah, I don’t think you’re wimpy for not running outside. I think you’re normal… unlike some people.
lauren says
is that your dog?! i have a golden that looks JUST like that! Golden retrievers are the best!
