Would you like your coffee black, with half-and-half or with a mountain of milk foam on top? I think you know how I like it! L.O.V.I.N.G. my Nespresso machine!!
My summer staples: massaged kale and herb salads, coconut La Croix and overnight oats:
These overnight oats were simple with the basic base of oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds and a pinch of salt. Plus Wild Friends PB and banana on top.
I’m not sure if I have ever blogged about WP Sitecare! They recently asked me for an endorsement, and have a new referral program, so I thought I’d share the service with you all – especially those of you who are bloggers! I seriously could not do this without them. Actually strike that – I used to do it without them and would routinely pull my hair out trying to fix things myself. Their monthly plans keep things humming behind the scenes as well as troubleshoot any hiccups that pop up with servers, hosting and all the other things that can go wrong.
The Fit Bottomed Girls have a new division: Fit Bottomed Zen! In addition to Fitbottomed Girls, Eats and Mamas, you can now visit Zen for all things feel-good. From tips on de-stressing to relationships, happiness and more, you’ll feel more relaxed just reading the post titles : ) Congrats to Jenn, Erin & Kristen on the new site!
Also on the blog front, I have hired an editor! Sarah emailed me to inquire if I was interested in her blog editing services. Um, YES please! Not only is she helping me catch typos, but her suggestions have really improved my posts as well. If you’re interested in her services, tell her KERF sent you!
Finally, some fantastic oatmeal posts to start your day:
Julie made this scrumptious looking Peanut Butter Baked Steel Cut Oats:
And Anne’s Savory Oatmeal looks like something fun to try too! Maybe for lunch!?
Later ‘gators!
Kori says
I love both recipes! Matt has introduced me to savory oatmeal, and even though I didn’t consider myself a savory breakfast person (brunch is a different story 😉 ), I now love it! We change it up throughout the week from sweet creations to savory on both oatmeal and waffles.
That’s so neat that you have an editor to help! What a fun job!
I’ll take coffee black, with a splash of half-and-half, and with foam. Allthecoffee =D
Sana says
I agree with you about savory oats for lunch. My dad has started eating it for breakfast and for some reason I don’t think I could stomach it until lunch!
Katie says
I’m trying to find a way to phrase this nicely…you posted about budgeting, then spending a large amount of money on clothes, and now about having a blog editor. As a long time reader, your posts all seem to contradict each other lately! Maybe you are struggling to find your voice, but this has been going on for awhile now. It somehow doesn’t feel genuine anymore.
Also, just curious – does the editor proofread or does she help with content? Posts like this are discombobulated, tangential, and disorganized. It’s like one long run on sentence.
KathEats says
Budgeting doesn’t mean not spending – it means watching the what, where, when and why you spend. You could make a million dollars a year and budget. YNAB is great at helping you give every dollar a job, and this made me realize that I had room in my budget for things like an editor.
Heather R says
Well said Kath. Being on a budget, doesn’t mean you can’t splurge! Love your blog and look forward to your post. giving your dollar and purpose goes a long way.
Courtney says
Kath, I love your blog, but I too have to agree. This post was all over the place. I spent a good two minutes trying to figure out if WP Sitecare helped Fit Bottomed Zen’s website, and if not, why the mention of FBZ was there. I do disagree that the posts have been all over the place lately, though. Usually they are topic specific, and kind of have a ring of your old posts years back. Have a great day!
Lindsey says
The blog world is interesting to me. What started years ago as web-based diaries to share thoughts and opinions, has ballooned into a multimillion dollar industry with advertising, sales, etc. Readers have become consumers, and as such we demand certain content in a certain way. I understand people make money off blogging, but at the end of the day I think we’ve forgotten that there are actual lives behind the screen.
For me, authenticity rules all. I don’t need a theme for each post, bring on the iphone photos and “what I ate today” posts. It must be hard work to come up with post ideas for every single day when they’re about real life! Heck, when people ask me what’s new, I usually reply with “eh, not much!” or “same old, same old!”
It’s an interesting feeling, being a blog reader for so many years but never meeting the blogger. It’s like a one-sided friendship. But, I feel like Kath has let us in to her lives a great deal and it’s cool to look back and think about how much we’ve both grown since I started reading. I love this blog and all of it’s changes! 🙂
Katie says
I understand how a budget works. What I’m commenting on is the disconnect/dis-ingenuity when you say you need to save money so you put spinach in your pesto instead of basil…but then drop money on clothing, so many meals out, etc.
KathEats says
It’s called balance – you save in some areas so you can spend in others.
Annie says
Smells a lot like jealousy to me!! Who cares if she buys a dress or two? It’s not like she’s flying to France every other weekend or buying Gucci purses.
Pamela says
I love your new blog redesign and that you have put such an incredible amount of time into your work!
However I think Katie made a good point and some people may get the wrong idea about budgeting from your posts. I think what Katie was referring to is that swapping spinach for pesto may save you $5 (which is great!) but that doesn’t really offset a dress.
Many people who read your blog may struggle with making ends meet, and for us, it’s a bit condescending to say you are trying to cut back and then show a big purchase – it’s just inconsistent. It’s awesome if you have money for eating out and buying nice clothes – you deserve it! But when you say you are trying to save money and then show a shopping spree, it is confusing.
And your reply to Katie seemed kind of mean. A vegetable does not balance out 3 dresses. She was asking you a good question and she is a long time reader who has given your blog her time. I always admire bloggers who treat their readers with respect rather than condescension.
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
Yum those look delicious! Love me some overnight oats, I like to add a bit of protein powder to mine for the sweetness and the protein!
Lindsey says
COCONUT LACROIX IS A THING??? Kath, you just changed my life.
KathEats says
OMG it’s the BEST!
Allison says
It tastes like you are drinking sunblock. I had it once and I couldn’t gag down the first can
KathEats says
Haha that’s what I love about it!!
Chelsea says
I like to make my own “Lime LaCroix” with my soda stream and True lime powder. I wonder if there is such a thing as coconut powder or if I could add coconut extract…..because that sounds delicious!
Nicole says
I agree Allison–my boyfriend and I almost gagged when we tried it!
Leah says
The new header is beautiful. (LOL, is that the right term? I am not a blogger.) I am leaning toward buying a Nespresso machine, but haven’t made the leap yet. Your foamy coffee pictures make it look so tempting! : ) Is there any option to use your own beans for coffee, or does it use the pods exclusively?
KathEats says
It only uses their pods, but there are lots of flavors to choose from : ) And header is correct! Good job lol : )
Tonya says
I rarely click on links in a link post but I clicked on several of these today!
Sorry–I will never click on savory oats. I just don’t get it! LOL
Tonya says
Loving the Fit Bottom Zen site. Adding to my rotation.
Kelly says
Kath, is blog editing something a lot of bloggers are looking at? I’m not great at cold pitching, so I never thought to reach out to bloggers in that way, but it’s something I would love to do. Just wondering if it’s a trend – similar to how many of them now have photographers to help them with imagery.
KathEats says
I have never heard of anyone doing it, and you have to be able to do pretty quick turn arounds on posts, but it’s definitely something I think a lot of bloggers could use!
Liz @ I heart vegetables says
Thanks for sharing about WP Site Care! I’m definitely going to look into that 🙂 I’m tired of trying to figure out my own solutions haha
Houston Electrician says
Sounds like a great site you have endorsed!
tracy says
I love your hair in that picture on the WP site – it’s such a pretty color!
Sally says
I have been watching Survivor for the first time in YEARS. If you were on the show, would you be brains, brawn, or beauty? First choice, second and third?
KathEats says
Oh gosh!!! Beauty last for sure. I’m tempted to say brains first because I’m a fan of the show and a nerd!
Katie D. says
You would Kath – student of the game 🙂
Melissa says
Kath, I’ve been thinking about getting a Nespresso but I’ve heard they’re pretty loud. True or no? Or are they pretty much the same volume as a regular espresso machine? Thanks!
KathEats says
Hmmm. I wouldn’t say it’s loud at all!?
Jenny Paxton says
I have one (absolutely LOVE it) and I would agree with Kath – not loud at all. Plus it’s so quick you hardly even realize it did anything. It is hands down my favorite kitchen appliance!
Jean says
While I agree with you that everyone should budget regardless of income, I think Katie has a valid comment regarding the disconnect. And to Annie, I don’t see it as jealousy. From reading your blog and seeing your spending habits my perception is you don’t have to worry about money (and in all senserity that is awesome – especially nice that the separation hasn’t affected your finances). Therefore, it comes across weird when you say things like swapping spinach for pesto to save money, but yet you recently had a patio built, shopping regularly at Whole Foods, buy stuff from Pottery Barn, and in addition to an expensive gym membership you frequent yoga studios. Maybe you get a lot of it comped for talking about it in your blog, I don’t know. Maybe some of your comments are to try to relate to those that aren’t as financially blessed or are also going through a separation & struggling with the new financial situation. Maybe you don’t enjoy cooking that much so you cut expenses when cooking from scratch and are OK with spending that money saved eating out or buying Blue Apron meals. But for you to swap something to save a few bucks and turn around to drop a lot of money on a consumer item makes me think of the people who order a 3000+ kcal meal and then order the diet soda because they are watching their calories.
Patty says
Some of these comments really irk me, and I just have to call it out. Kath is not here to worry about your budget or your financial circumstances. She doesn’t run this blog to make sure your feelings aren’t hurt, or to make sure that you can do everything she does on YOUR budget. This is her life, her blog and how she wants to budget is her own business. This is a healthy eating and lifestyle blog, not Dave Ramsey.
To assume everything you see on this site is Kath’s entire life, and to assume that you see all the give and take of her budget only to complain is ridiculous and pretty rude in general.
Tonya says
this comment made me LOL! So well put. +100
Sarah says
You guys are rough. I totally am cheap with food and would do a substitution with pesto, yet I am planning a $6000 trip to Italy in the Fall. Everyone spends in different places. Everyone relax. It’s not for you all to judge.
MelanieF says
Same here! I am cheap when buying clothes, shoes and other stuff but I splurge on groceries, restaurants and travels! Budgeting doesn’t mean not spending, it means that you know what’s coming in and out and also where your money is going. And how you choose to spend and not spend on certain things is totally personnal!
Sam @ Barrister's Beet says
I’m not really sure why people are analyzing how and what you spend money on… Also, you can’t judge someone’s overall expenses, spending habits and budget from some snippets you see in a blog post. Just sayin.
Dawn says
Hi from a long time reader and never-commenter. I enjoy reading your blog every day, and I am especially fond of it right now because you are so frank about the transition you are going through and also all the things that fill your life, including your cutie pie son. I am commenting because I feel that the tone of previous comments here today was borderline nasty, and I just want you to know I really appreciate what you do and how you do it. If people want to edit your work, they should start their own blogs and they can write and edit too. It’s a blog, not an academic publication. And it’s great.
Just keep on writing and I will happily read. Every day.
Thank you—
Dawn
