Today was a clunker day on my morning run! I blame the legs. They just didn’t want to move fast. My miles hovered around 9 minutes, but I finished 4 miles with a good attitude and good appetite! I’m thinking yesterday’s late yoga is what kept my legs from 100% refreshment this morning. It makes sense!
Bread in the house!
I had a few spoons of granola before my run and after…Apple Crunch Toast! A really funny shape I cut off the top of the loaf to maximize the gooey topping in my slice : )
Topped with banana, peanut butter, strawberry jame, chia seeds and coconut.
Ice water < iced coffee
Biking in to the bread shop!
Meg says
Ahh what a sweet morning and a SWEETER breakfast to come home to after your clunker of a run 😉
Enjoy your day, Kath!
Cait's Plate says
Oh man. Just when I think visions of that apple crunch bread aren’t going to haunt me anymore! Haha.
That looks delicious.
Sorry about the clunker run – I definitely know the feeling. It’s getting later and in the week which means our bodies are getting more and more tired! Glad that you finished off well though – getting a big appetite for a nice meal is one of the best parts of a morning run!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I’ve had a few clunker runs recently too! They start off feeling slow, but usually by the end I feel pretty good. At least you did it though, right? That’s what counts!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I had a clunker yesterday too! And I’m still trying to convince myself to get out the door this morning. I’m blaming the heat and humidity.
At least you didn’t have a clunker breakfast. It looks so pretty!
Lisa Fine says
At least you kept with the run. It can be easy to feel heavy in the legs and just stop for the day.
I had yoga last night and plan to go for a run today, too. But I got an extra hour of sleep, so for me it’s breakfast first, then running.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Isn’t it funny how some mornings, your legs can go SO fast, and some mornings, they just don’t. want. to. move. ?!? Good on you for running even on a clunker morning!
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I had a clunker of a run the other day, thankfully I got through it! In other news I made my first stop at Great Harvest in Rochester Minnesota (I just moved back) and I had forgotten how much I just love Great Harvest Bread! So Good!

What a gorgeous plate!! And even better looking breakfast! Have a great day Kath 🙂
Kelly @foodiefresh says
I had a similar run on the treadmill this morning, but I still think 9 minute miles sounds fast! 🙂
Kelsey says
I try to make my breakfasts look as great as you do, but I don’t think anyone can live up to yours! I’d definitely take you up on your Twitter offer if you’re up for visiting Milwaukee! haha 😉
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I love your bread mashups!

I hate when my legs feel like that on runs! Have a great day, Kath. 🙂

Clunker run or not, you ran 4 miles! Nothing too shabby about that 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Those runs where your legs just don’ want to work can be so annoying, huh? Glad you fought through it, thought!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
mm that mess of banana and nut butter looks divine!
Running always does get the day started in a great way! 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
Biking to the bread shop, just like the olden days! Except your bike is probably much flashier and the bread costs more than .25 cents 🙂
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
That plate is rockin!

I never drink outta my glass jars at home! what a cool idea 🙂

Most random KERF sighting ever this week. I was printing off an exchange rate at work a couple days ago and on the site where I get exchange rates from there was an Open Sky ad with a pic of you! I printed it out and filed it away so now there is a little picture of you in my file 🙂
The Teenage Taste says
Mmmm…that breakfast looks fabulous! I wish I lived closer to Great Harvest…all of the breads sound amazing! 😀

Sometimes when I run, my legs feel like lead too! But good job on running through all four miles!
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Those are the runs that make us stronger!!! I’ve been having a lot of those feet-dragging runs lately. It’s hard to run the morning after a tough shift of waitressing 🙁
Monika says
Well, getting a run in sure feels better than not! So great job on powering through it Kath!
Hilary says
Ah, I’ve had the clunker runs too…it happens to the best of us….kudos to your for keeping a positive attitude! And SO shocked to hear you had bread for breakfast.

Hope you have a beautiful day even though it started funky! At least you’ve been active, yay!
Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) says
Loaf report HEHE! Made me chuckle 😉 …and also thank you for posting where the loaf recipe’s from. I’ve never added red pepper to mine, but sounds like a lovely addition. I’m with you on the bison… def like the flavor more than beef.
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
My legs felt a little clunkerish on this morning’s run, too. Weird because I ran the same route last week with about a 15 second faster avg pace! Also, I think we’re on the same run schedule, haha 🙂
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That breakfast looks amazing!!
Katherine says
Gah, I wish I could be as energized as you are about running!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
I see that you add coconut to a lot of your meals, is it just for the taste or is there more of a nutritional element to it?
KathEats says
Just taste! Although if I use coconut butter it’s also a fat/satiety thing too
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Yep, I always maximize the surface area of the gooey topping on my slice! Great minds think alike.
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Ooh, yeah, I know that clunker run feeling! Never fun.
Mallory says
Do you make all of those breads yourself or your husband? My mouth waters whenever I see pictures of what you make. People eat with their eyes!!
KathEats says
I don’t make them, but Matt and the morning production crew do
Catherine@happinessafterheartache says
I ran yesterday inside with my Wii Fit…..it is SO HOT AND HUMID here in Buffalo that it was definitely a clunker run. Maybe tonight will be better (the run, I mean…..the weather is the same today)
Lauren R. says
I was just checking train times for the Metra (Chicago-area commuter rail) and your face greeted me! So random to see you on an Open Sky banner on the Metra site, but I have to admit that even though I was a long-time reader, I still didn’t follow you on open sky… until today. I clicked the banner and signed up. Guess the ad worked!
KathEats says
🙂 Fun!

I wanted to let you know how fresh and great GH bread is. My son has been doing volunteer work at our local food pantry (Prairie Village, KS, a suburb of Kansas City) that apparently receives Great Harvest bread “cast-offs”. Every week he has been bringing home a couple loaves of the bread and/or cookies and rolls that are excess. We literally have been enjoying “cast-offs” of the “cast-off” bread!! It’s still tastes great! I feel kind of bad that we get the bread because it seems like someone in need could use it, but I guess the pantry has fulfilled the need already.
Just thought you’d like to know!
Angel7 says
Yoga can do that to your legs 🙂

It’s so strange how some days legs can feel like LEAD while other days they fly! Oh well, better run next time! 🙂

Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
I love that plate! so gorgeous!

As someone currently doing the Couch to 5K program, 4 miles at 9 min. miles is impressive! I’m still walk/running, and my run is at about a 10:30 minute mile 🙂
Hannah says
That’s the tiniest fork in the world! I want!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I often find that days that start out as clunkers can morph into great ones! I think I might try harder on a day like that to have it turn out better. It’s amazing what you accomplish anyway. Just go with it!!
