After a wee bit of resting and blogging, guess what we did for dinner? Walked back out the door! I think that accumulates 8+ miles for the day.
A bunch of Davidson friends (plus 3 non-Davidson new friends) are here in Cville for a girls’ weekend and invited us to join them for dinner at Commonwealth:
We all fit around one big square table!
I sipped on bourbons club sodas throughout the night. It’s strange that even though I REALLY would love a huge pint of craft beer (or a few) or a sloshing glass bottle of red wine, I don’t really miss alcohol all that much. Or rather, its effects. And it’s really strange that in 11 weeks I haven’t had a single hangover*. Longest hangover-free spell ever?
*Not really true since the first trimester IS one big hangover
Matt joined our table of females, but it was cool since he’s a good sport and a talker.
We shared the Lobster + Cod cakes to start. Third time’s a charm! [FYI, the two bourbon photos in this post happen to be two of my favorite KERF photos of all time! The epitome of happiness in a glass.]
For our main course, we shared the Bourbon Braised Short Ribs with Root Vegetables. [Neither of us were too hungry tonight, so sharing was perfect]
I haven’t been this satisfied with a meat dish in ages. These were perrrrrfectly cooked and so flavorful. Fall-apart, melty and tender. Maybe I will try to make some at home soon!
Our walk home was freezing cold, but I just warmed myself up with the chocolate truffle Lauren gave us this afternoon!
We’re thinking the perfect ending to our Saturday night would be a couple of episodes of LOST!!!!!!! Just talking about it at dinner got me all excited to watch again. First I’m going to put on my PJs and find a warm blanket!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
When BERF grows up, you can tell him/her that he/she watched the entire series of LOST while rollin’ around in your belly :).
KathEats says
Hopefully he/she won’t remember the ending so he/she can watch it for himself/herself!!
[And the above sentence is exactly why I want to find out the gender ASAP 🙂 ]
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
Are you going to share the gender right away?!
KathEats says
I think so. For the above very reason.
Jim Purdy says
A “gender agenda”
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
What a fun night! I love a good truffle to end the night too. hehe
Enjoy the evening with a good show 🙂
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
Another fun outing!!! Today looks like it was such a fun Saturday!
MindyG says
It never seemed like you were hung over!! You posts are always so upbeat.
Sounds like a wonderful evening!
KathEats says
Well I get “hungover” so easily – mostly it’s just wine breath/achiness. Not like the big scary kind, although I do get those too from time to time!
kristinichole says
ahhaha what exactly is “wine breath”? I THINK I know but not sure (having downed 1/2 bottle of red last night, heh)
KathEats says
It’s when despite teeth brushing and eating food, you can still taste alcohol with every breath. Maybe it’s just me because I have an incredible sense of taste and smell! But it’s the worst part of a hangover (other than nausea)
jane says
for me its the teeth sweaters. no matter how many times i brush my teeth after a night on the town they still seem to be coated in something-aka teeth sweaters!!
KathEats says
Hahahha. I think I know what you’re talking about!
kristinichole says
yes! I always call them “furry teeth”. ew!
also, some days I feel like it’s just SEEPING out of every pore…even though I am freshly showered and clean. sigh.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Sounds like you had a great day! Seriously, that is the perfect way to describe the first trimester! Enjoy your show and cuddles on the couch!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
What a fun Saturday night. You look very happy and healthy in the group photo! Enjoy your evening!
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I love ending the day with a favorite show. Nice and relaxing!
Angel7 says
Sounds like a nice way to end your evening–warm and cozy at home 🙂 It is really cold here, so that is what we are doing.

Looks like you had a great night out. Mmmmmm short ribs, I would not be able to share those, even with my husband. Lost reminds me that i have a netflix dvd of The Big Bang Theory Season 4 disc 2 to watch on my table for a couple of days. I usually obsess and watch it right away. I haven’t had TV for a few years so I am catching up on shows everybody else has already seen!
Not finding out the gender of my babies was the right decision for me. I wanted the classic labor and delivery “it’s a boy!” or “it’s a girl” moment and the follow-up when you tell your family “it’s a boy” or “it’s a girl” and they are all flush with excitement rather than the “yeah, we know.”
I always LOL when expectant moms say “i’m a planner, i need to know.” Having babies and raising children will lay waste to the best of “planning.” I also enjoyed every second of daydreaming about my baby being either sex, discussing and eventually picking both boy and girl names and walking into each and every doc appointment and reminding/announcing “I DON’T WANT TO KNOW THE SEX SO DON”T SAY ANYTHING!!” But to each their own but I am glad there is a resurgence towards couples NOT finding out. There are so few unplanned surprises left in life. Everything is so very planned now. *sigh*
Amanda says
We didn’t find out for the very same reasons!
KathEats says
It’s a surprise whether you find out at 13 weeks, 20 weeks or 40 weeks! I’ll be surprised either way.
Mary Frances says
Or, a twist of surprise… I have known several people who were ‘informed’ what the sex was in advance only to find out when it ‘popped’ out it was the opposite of what they were expecting. As we all know in life, nothing is for sure until it is for sure! … but I sure hope things go the way people want them to go–all good karma all the way around for everyone!!!
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
We finally are getting cooler weather. So cozying up to watch a good movie/show sounds perfect for this Saturday night. Enjoy watching LOST.
Khushboo says
Those lobster cakes looks so yum- just outta curiosity, how is seafood sitting with your stomach these days?
KathEats says
I’m a little down on salmon, but LOVE crab!!
Jenn Sutherland says
Gosh, I am so behind on my blog reading – I’m just catching up to the news that you’re pregnant! Congrats to you and Matt! I can’t wait to see what kind of healthy foods you mash up for the little one!
KathEats says
Thanks!! 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
What a fun night. And what a full day of walking!! I’d probably need a foot massage at that point… 😉
Blessing @ Working Mom Journal says
That baby is going to be so lost in LOST with all these LOST you’ve been watching….hahahaha. And oh by the way, you know newborns recognize familiar voices when born, he/she will be humming to the LOST tune as soon as he/she is born. LOL. Glad you had a great day lady.
RunEatRepeat says
I’ve never even had a real hangover, not looking forward to one that lasts 3 months!
I will always be obsessed with LOST. Always.
KathEats says
Never ever!?!? Lucky you! Matt hasn’t really ever had one either
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
The Lobster + Cod cakes look so good.
And I love fun tidbits like the bourbon pics being your fave pics, EVER, of all time, on Kerf. Considering there are tens of thousand of images, that’s a bold statement and fun factoid!
Molly @ RDexposed says
And I’m reading this during a craft beer session. I’ll drink in place for you!
KathEats says
Jealous.
Amelia says
That is exactly how I described the first trimester – like a Groundhog Day version of your worst hangover!!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
awww looks like a great night 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
It’s always so great to see old friends.
Annalisa says
I don’t think I missed drinking until half-way through my pregnancy. For me, the LONGEST weeks were 20-30! It was like OMG I’m ONLY half-way there!!! I also had the easiest pregnancy but it got OLD not drinking, watching my foods, and worrying.
Also, I think it’s interesting you’re into LOST. My sister and I watched all of LOST when we were pregnant – and our pregnancies were exactly a year apart.
Sarah (I Dream of Beets) says
If you know Erin L. , then you must know one of my best friends, Meghan Ref. They were roommates at Davidson!
KathEats says
Hmmm….I can’t figure out the Ref. abbreviation
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Walking is the best exercise when pregnant! It’s so mind clearing and it makes you feel like you actually exercised (especially in the last few months!). I wasn’t allowed to do anything but walk when I was pregnant with my son so I walked a lot! Dinner looks amazing. What a great weekend!
Maria@ Sinfully Nutritious says
Keep warm…it is cooooold out! Getting cozy with a blanket and Lost sounds like a perfect ending to a Saturday night.
Meg @ Spandex in the City says
I just have to add, I LOVE the way they ‘dropped?’ the sauce on your lobster cake plate. SO cute, is that mustard?
I have been a long time reader of KERF, but believe it or not this is my first comment !
KathEats says
Yeah they did a great job with presentation!
Cait's Plate says
Looks like a wonderful evening 🙂 And watching LOST sounds like the perfect ending!
Larbs says
Is that the restaurant I keep saying I want to go to? Mark your calender for 3/31. And the Sky Bar too!
Ash Bear says
This restaurant looks delicious! I keep saying this but all your LOST talk has now made us add that to the TV agenda once we finish Felicity and Sopranos! I love having long shows which allow you to watch 2 episodes a night for months before finishing the series.
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Dying to try that restaurant! I would have gone with club soda too 😉
