Matt and I went for a walk around the University of Virginia grounds today. Took my camera for some snapshots!
Upon our return, we were famished and ready to make a classic…
[As I’m sure you saw on the meal plan this morning
]Of course we omitted the onions (used red pepper instead) and we very sadly did not have a jalapeno (used a celery and extra spice instead).
We also used the WHOLE can of tomato paste
Quote Jenna:
"I dare you to show me a person who uses the whole can of tomato paste in any one recipe that they make."
Ta-da! Extra tomatoey goodness!
On the side – millet spiked with tumeric and cayenne, plus cinnamon and coconut butter on mine (real butter and salt on Matt’s)
Tomato divine!
We’re settling down to watch the movie Amadeus, the story of Mozart made in 1984.
A classic[al].
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Awesome pics! Love your festive fall colors. 🙂
Tell Jenna that I often use a whole can of tomato paste, sometimes two in sauce! 😮
Faith @ lovelyascharged says
I’m warning you now…Amadeus’ laugh is THE.MOST.ANNOYING sound you’ll ever hear in your entire life…but it’s a great movie!

Melissa @ I Never Imagined says
Oh my goodness. I’m so silly. I was like ‘why is Kath wearing two different shoes? OH NO! Something must be wrong with her foot!!’ … but duh! You wouldn’t wear two different kinds of pants if that was the case! Haha!
Kath says
Ha
Grocery Goddess Jen says
I remember that movie! We watched it in music class back in the day.
Allie says
I probably sound a little dumb, but what is millet?!
Kath says
It’s one of the ancient grains and is like cornmeal meets couscous

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I stiiiiill haven’t walked the UVA campus. Next time.
I love that super long skinny spoon. So elegant.

I have never had Indian food – I want to try that recipe. Thanks for reminding me – I will add it to my list.
kate says
Its so true about using a whole can. Recipes usually just call for 2 tbsp!
Cara Craves... says
What a beautiful campus!
I made channa last week; it’s sooo good!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i don’t normally use the whole can unless it’s for tomato sauce for pasta…it’s just SO GOOD with extra tomato!
Emmalinda says
Gingko leaves! My fav. 🙂
hippierunner says

Hmm, maybe I was wrong. This chana masala and millet dish might prove even more tempting than the upcoming peanut noodles! 😛

Music in the movie is gorgeous.
I sure would like some cute striped gloves for Christmas!
Lisa says
The pictures from UVA are so beautiful. I must visit one day.

I *love* Amadeus. I’m sure you will too!
And by the way, the actor who plays Mozart also does the voice of Quasimodo in Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame 🙂
Pat Kilmain says
Amadeus = one of my favorite movies! And I love Indian food – and onions! I’m so going to make this.
jenna says
hah! You win! I wish I didn’t live so darn far or else I would have showed up on your doorstep with an empty plate.
Oh, and btw–Amadeus was randomly my favorite childhood movie. We always watched it in music class and I practically memorized the whole thing but the big mass grave at the end always (and still does!) give me nightmares.
Kath says
🙂
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Love to see pics of C’Ville! I just got back from the DMB weekend and posted a bunch of pics on my blog, if you’re interested. What a fabulous city!

I always love your photos from when you’re out on walks. They’re so serene, and I feel peaceful just looking at them. I can almost hear the leaves crunching under foot now.
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
Gorgeous day! It was absolutely lovely here in DC, too, which is nice considering that cold and grey weather is in the forecast.

Samantha says
I ALWAYS use a whole can of tom paste, no matter what it calls for. I love that stuff!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I love tomato paste but never use the whole can, just because I’m horrible at improvising. I need to take a page out of your book though, because I love tomatoes!
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
Just commenting to say I <3 Amadeus.
There was a two year period where I watched it every single Saturday and Sunday morning over breakfast. I knew all of the words. I sang along to the music.
Trust me. This was normal behavior. I was a band geek.
My family doesn't understand the band geek's need to watch musical movies. They have banned me from ever watching it in their presence ever again.
Thank goodness I have my own apartment now! 😉
Stephanie says
Mmmm love channa masala! I’ve been meaning to try this recipe, it looks great!
MonsteRawr says
Dude, show me a person who *doesn’t* use the whole can of tomato paste in a recipe. Yum!
Meg says
In my opinion, you can never have to much tomato paste 😉
LOVE your gloves! 😀
Monica says
I LOVE tomato paste as a pizza sauce and use up a whole can or more, depending on the size of the pizza. Challenge accepted!
I was in Cville this weekend visiting my sister–it was truly fantastic. I love that the trees haven’t totally lost their leaves yet! There’s still a little bit of gold 🙂
Anna says
I love Amadeus! It has been a while since I watched it but it has an interesting perspective on Mozart’s life. Have you ever read Mozart’s Sister by Nancy Moser?
Christin@purplebirdblog says
I can’t get enough tomato paste! Love that concentrated flavor!
Kristen @ Kristen, Sweetly says

Wow– looks amazing. Kath and Matt, I gotta give it to you two. You both know how to cook up a TASTY meal while creating a beautiful presentation out of it. Well done :)!
I had a similar meal the other night– a chickpea curry with tahini and a side of sticky farro. Super yummy 🙂

Great pictures and I definitely use the whole can of paste or two for red sauce. That first pic is way cool!

That may be the longest movie ever. No way you are making it through. 🙂
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
gah, i love amadeus. my husband and i got married to the song at the beginning, the one that’s playing when mozart is chasing his wife under the buffet table and is late to conduct his piece. “serenade for winds” – gorgeous.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Gorgeous pictures!
I made Jenna’s Chana Masala a couple weeks back and *loved* it! Such a simple but tasty meal. 😀
Kasey says
Love all your pics around the city!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
That looks like such a gorgeous fall walk! I love all the colourful leaves. Most of the trees here are bare now. 🙁
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
I didn’t like that movie but it really does make you realize how crazy talented composers of that day were. I mean Mozart wrote his first piece at age seven…..when I learned to play that piece on the piano and learned he had written it at age seven I felt a little bummed! haha.
Karen says
I love the pictures of the campus and the leaves…I’m totally jealous. We don’t have those kinds of views where I live.
Amy says
Love those Ginkgo leaves!!! I’ll have to make this Channa Masala with my Aloo Gobi and have an Indian feast.
Thealogian says
I love love love those two chairs in your living room. I know that you mentioned your Mother-in-Law gave the set to you, but do you by any chance know who makes them?
Kath says
She had them custom done 🙁
Lauren says
I have those same gloves…they’re perfect for running in chilly weather!
