To be honest, I did not do well today. But the good news is I am SO ready to be done with the holidays and get back to my normal routine. My body feels gross and worn out and I’m ready to start treating it better again. I’ve always known that holidays are a weakness of mine, and by now you’ve probably seen that my family likes to eat!!
HOWEVER, although the past few days have been bad, they could have been a LOT. WORSE. I didn’t really mindlessly eat and I definitely said “no thanks” to tons of stuff. I didn’t eat a lot of hors d’ouevres or drink too much, but I certainly ate my fair share of desserts. I’m going to leave you all with a photo recap only. Honestly in the 3-4 months I’ve been food blogging, today was the first time I’ve felt tied-down by the blog and did not feel like photographing every bite (well, and last night too). There are definitely bites missing, but here’s the bulk of it:
Pre-Workout
Had a banana before we left on our run. And I ate the other half when we got back.
Run
There’s no better way to start Christmas Day. The husband and I ran to a historic site and did a mile loop twice and ran the long way home – for a total of 5 miles. If anything has carried me through this Christmas it’s been my long workouts each day. I would have liked to have gotten in an extra walk or two, but without these workouts I would have been a lot worse off on the energy in-energy out balance!
Brunch
I made one of the biggest mistakes in the books: I went to brunch too famished from no breakfast and a long run! So I ate too much to soothe my painful stomach. But it was delicious and one of the best brunches I have ever attended!
Mimosa
The beautiful table
My plate: breakfast casseroles (two kinds), sweet breads, fruits, half a ham biscuit, a sausage ball
Seconds on the casserole…
Desserts
Pineapple-Pecan Pie!
Missing bites: 1/2 a piece of fudge, a bourbon ball, a cheddar cookie.
Cocktail Hour
I said no to a LOT of other things! We got out the whole spread leftover from Christmas Eve and I only had a piece of brie on a wheat thin and a cheese straw. And one more unphotographed piece of brie!
Dinner
Turkey, gravy, green beans, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, stuffing:
Seconds…
Wine
And the grand finale: TWO servings of berry trifle soaked in rum!
Whew! I’m done.
