I hate to begin this post on a down note, but I didn’t have a very good day. Computer troubles, clouds, frumpy outfit.
But then it got better with a PB&J snack…
And then it got REALLY good with a party!! Spirits = lifted!
Our super cool neighbors hosted a Chopin + Chardonnay party tonight, which involved Chopin trivia and a blind Chardonnay tasting!
Sadly I couldn’t participate, but I did tons of smelling and very, very lightly tasted Matt’s top 3 favorites. Luckily we have the same Chardonnay preference so his choices were good ones! We (he) chose the bottle we brought as our favorite – blindly!
There was a lovely selection of foods – including lots of cheese, breads to taste (we brought several of ours), dips, shrimp and even some sushi!
I had some of the avocado sushi : )
We met lots of fun people and enjoyed discussing wine, babies and bread with them all.
The winning wine of the evening was one by Wente, which is a wine Matt and I have liked in the past. Our favorite wine, however, ended up being the one we brought – La Crema!! We are not ashamed to admit we like our chards buttery.
Honeymoon 2007! [So young!]
There was actually another La Crema in the mix too! From Monterey.
St. Francis was a top winner by the crowd and is another favorite of ours (our first Sonoma winery on day 1 of our honeymoon!) In fact the caption of this photo on the right is “St. Francis Chardonnay!”
I was also shocked when one of the bottles was revealed as Michel-Schlumberger! Recall back to 2009 when I visited the winery with Jenna, Tina, and BethT! It’s not a huge winery, so I couldn’t believe it when I saw the bottle tonight and had once sipped wines with the president!
We ended the evening with some Chopin “true or nots” before we crossed the street back to our place!
Wide-open Sunday tomorrow!

Thanks 🙂 I think spending the day in my husband’s too-big shirt was just not the best way to spend a cloudy day!

The good thing about bad days is that they’re usually few and far between! 🙂 The sun will come out… tomorrow?

Kath- I get that you usually try to avoid talking about politics /current events, but it’s kind of struck me that you haven’t seemed to mention the Colorado theater shootings at all. I guess it is your personal blog and you can talk about whatever you want, but it seemed a bit off to me that you mentioned having a bad day because it was cloudy and you felt frumpy, meanwhile hundreds of friends and families in CO are having bad days because their loved ones have been killed or injured.
KathEats says
I what happened is completely heartbreaking and the victims and families have been in my personal thoughts

So happy to hear you had a better evening compared to your day. Surrounding yourself with great people, food, and wine is always a guaranteed spirit lifter. 🙂

Chopin as in the composer? Are your friends big music history buffs? What were some of of the trivia questions?
KathEats says
yup! There was a narrative about his life filled with true and false statements and we had to guess which ones were false. I don’t know a thing about Chopin so I didn’t do very well, but others were good guessers!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Ooooo that shrimp and sushi looks good! And What a cool party! HAha I hope I have friends who think of things like that when I’m older!

Super fun idea for a party! Wonder if I could pull it off knowing nothing really at this point abut Chopin?
I totally get the frumpy outfit/bad day combo. They go hand in hand for me too. 🙂

I love a good buttery, oaky chardonnay…full on flavour is my favourite. My favourite right now is the Chardonnay from Pondview in Niagara on the Lake …unfortunately one can only buy it at their winery…so sad! Just enjoyed our last bottle the other night!

My sis lives in Sonoma and I was just visiting. We did the wine and food pairing at St. Francis, and it was incredible. Also love La Crema 🙂
