One of the hardest things about blogging [other than finding great natural light and choosing a title] is picking favorites of the hundreds of photos I take everyday.
Sometimes there are clear winners and losers
Other times I like them all!
Here are the ones I deemed the best in both differing perspective and content:
Pumpkin pie SIAB!
The Mix
- 1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup pumpkin
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- Pinch ground ginger
- Pinch cinnamon
- Pinch ground cloves
–> Vita-mix away!
Toppings
- Plain Jane granola
- Coconut
- Crumbled Carr’s Whole Wheat Cracker (that tastes like a cookie!)
Matt claims to hate pumpkin, so he had a yogurt bowl for breakfast. He’s missing out!
Wide-open spaces are calling my name!
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Haha I love that you say he “claims to hate pumpkin.” There are a few things my Matt doesn’t like that I think he is just too hesitant and/or stubborn to try!
Ella says
I laughed about the “claims” to hate pumpkin too! I refuse to believe that my husband hates things that I love so I say he “claims” to hate them too 🙂
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
THAT is like, my dream breakfast mix!!
I sometimes really struggle to pick pictures; i don’t get how a 1cm difference can make a photo so different..but it really deos!
AJ @ Flowing to Fifty says
Congratulations on the O article! I read the mag and thought….”Wow. More oats. I wonder if Kath has seen this.” And then I read your name!! This bowl looks great. Enjoy whatever wide open spaces call to you today.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
I’m hungry for breakfast!
Richelle says
I think Matt is missing out. I had a big bowl of pumpkin oats this morning.
Lee says
I served those Carr crackers at a dinner party a few weeks ago. They really do taste like cookies.
Sarah says
I am brand-new to blogging, and your blog is one that inspired me. Congrats on making the O article!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Choosing pictures can be SO tough! I’ve noticed that the longer I blog, the more pictures I take of each meal. It’s an issue 🙂
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
Your pictures are always so fantastic it doesn’t surprise me that you have so many to choose from. Even your reject picture looks good to me:-)
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
I’m the same way!! I will look at the most minute details in picture differences before making up my mind…and even then sometimes I second guess my final choice. haha Love it all!!
Rachel @ Healthy Teacher says
My husband claims to hate pumpkin, too. Lies. Thanks again for the add to the blogroll;) Hope your wide open spaces are as refreshing as they sound.
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
Haha–Yes, those three things are definitely a struggle for bloggers. Sometimes, I just want to title my posts “I Don’t Have Any Idea What to Call This”.
Your pumplin SIAB looks wonderful!
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
*pumpkin*
VeggieGirl says
All gorgeous creations to me! 😀
Maddie (Healthy Maddie) says
Matt IS missing out. Pumpkin is the best.
Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete says
I love that bloggers are throwing in some pumpkin here and there. I was starting to miss it!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
aaah all your pix are so pretty! i clearly need to snap s’more before chowing
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
It IS crazy how many pictures we take as food bloggers– my computer files are FILLED with FOOD! 🙂
Christina says
Hahaha, I struggle with this all the time, especially keeping the title short. If I bother to ask anyone, oftentimes they look at me like I’m crazy and ask what the difference is between similarly photographed pictures.
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
Choosing a name is the hardest part of blogging for me too! You are always so creative with yours!
Mimi says
Matt doesn’t like pumpkin? Sounds like that needs to be addressed, ASAP!
Ann says
I am pretty new to blogging (less than a month), and finding good natural light is the hardest part! I definitely carry my food all over the house searching for it!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Haha, coming up with a title or multiple times a day is the WORST part of blogging for me!! Seriously. Sometimes I sit there for a half hour thinking of a title for a post that isn’t that extraordinary, lol.
Natural light… ughhhhhhh. Even my natural light decides to not cooperate some days! Very frustrating. 😆
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
The reject pic is awesome! It’s like “Attack of the Killer PB!”
I always forget about smoothies in a bowl and I can actually at that right now. I see a smoothie bowl in my future for lunch!
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
Looks amazing! My dietetic internship applications are due in 2 days!! Ahh
KathEats says
Good luck!!!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Sounds like a wonderful breakfast mix – yum! Love the reject pic, I get a lot of those too. I haven’t had a smoothie in a bowl in a long time, maybe tomorrow morning. 🙂
Nicki Evanovich says
Hi Kath –
I love all your pumpkin recipes, but I am having the hardest time finding canned pumpkin. Do you have any recommendations?
Kiran says
Libby is the best!
KathEats says
Libby’s is the best, and I got about 16 cans in October and am still using them up just for this reason!
Kiran says
Matt hates pumpkin??? Oh no *faints*
Simply Life says
I love to see it still takes you a bunch of pictures to get the right ones! 🙂
Baking 'n' Books says
They’re all beautiful to me.
I thought the “Vita-Mix away” saying actually said – “Vita-Mix GIVE-Away”….hah – dreaming 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
How can Matt not like pumpkin?!
Tracy @ Commit To Fit says
I haven’t always been a pumpkin fan either, but it has grown on me over the years. I think it depends what you pair it with. Your mix looks great!
betty@runbetty says
Ooh – i love those Carr’s whole wheat crackers too! They were such a fortunate accident – we bought them once to go with some cheese – that didn’t pan out so well, but they are delicious as a sweet treat!
stacey-healthylife says
Doesn’t like pumpkin, wow. I am so surprised. He’s missing out.
kelly says
I’m with Matt…no pumpkin for me!
Kristina says
What??? Who doesn’t like pumpkin??!???
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
I need to start adding in some pumpkin into my breakfasts – after all I do love pumpkin pie!
Lol, I never know what to title my posts – I feel ya there 🙂
nicole says
I love your bowl! Where is it from?
KathEats says
My grandmother, but I’ve seen it in antique shops lately
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Your pictures always look fantastic! I know how you feel about having to go through a lot of pictures for the perfect one. I may not take quite as many pictures as you, but I do take a lot of pictures daily…of the same thing. 😉
Natalia - a side of simple says
My very favorite picture from this post is the close-up of the spoon! It looks like a spoonful of divinity!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Choosing pictures really can be so difficult! Sometimes I’ll spend ages flipping between two photos to try to decide which one I like better.
Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) says
I always end up with more pictures than I’ll ever know what to do with. Sometimes I just caught up in the beauty of the food and keep clicking away. The next thing I know my hot meal is cold! I have good pictures, though!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Agreed!! My boyfriend’s always asking why I don’t just take one or two pictures and be done with it so I don’t have to sit there and choose. If only he knew! 😉
Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
Haha! I think I give up after about 5 pictures..I can’t stand the thought of my food getting too cold, and then having to reheat it! Plus, I’m a bit impatient 😉 Have fun in your wide-open spaces!!!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I get mad when I hate every single picture I have taken – but then I hate it when I love them all! TOo many to choose from!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
I can’t believe Matt doesn’t like pumpkin! Your smoothie in a bowl looks great 🙂
Annette says
my bro doesn’t like pumpkin and that makes me SOO sad! 🙁
Katrine says
LOVE your spoon!
sally mae says
Pretend like you are shooting with film, so you take less shots!
Hannah says
Sometimes I have your problem with photos, but because I have a point and shoot camera and little natural light in me home, it’s often more about finding the one or two non-blurry photos in the dozens :S
Pickynikki says
What would be a good substitute for the banana in your oatmeal or other recipes? 🙂 I have a lovely allergy to bananas. Thanks! Keep up the great blog! I can’t wait to see the progress on the new GH Bakery when it begins!
KathEats says
Pumpkin? Mango? Apple?
Allison @ Happy Tales says
I bet I’d have that problem too if I had a badass camera like that… not a bad problem to have! Oh, and I can’t believe he doesn’t like pumpkin!! I think he just says that so you can have it all 🙂
Christin@purplebirdblog says
I find I’m a huge fan of the closeups shots in my bunches!!
Amanda says
My fiance “claims” to hate things, too… but really he is too hesitant to try them, or try them a different way than he’s used to!
And that smoothie looks divine! I have a huge can of pumpkin from the fall in my pantry… I’m definitely making this soon! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Purely Elizabeth says
I love SIABs also! They are such a great way to enjoy healthy smoothies, especially when topped with granola or other goodies. I am trying so many pumpkin recipes right now I will definitely have to give this one a try!
Michelle says
Sorry… hate to ask what may be obvious to others (me being a newbie to this site)… is this raw pumpkin or cooked first?
KathEats says
Cooked! It’s from a can
Judy says
Just wondering if this recipe is for 1 or 2 servings. A whole cup of pumpkin seems like a lot for 1 serving??
KathEats says
I used a cup, but it was a scant one – not packed in
