After a whirlwind of travel last week and a week of travel on the horizon, I was so glad to spend the weekend at home just hanging out with my family.
On Friday I drove home from Williamsburg in order to make it to Mazen’s class picnic. Matt made us chicken salad sliders, and we shared a big cantaloupe in the shade.
That afternoon, Mazen and I took a trip up to Target (his FAVORITE field trip because of the toy aisle!).
I let him pick out a small Batman toy. Why are all the expensive toys at eye level?! C’mon Target, help a parent out! One of his friends let him borrow a big Batman building that she no longer plays with, so now we have a whole Gotham City!
Friday night we had Blue Apron Dijon chicken with garlicky smashed potatoes and sautéed veggies. Loved this meal!
While I was doing the evening chores, Mazen told me to “Go sit down and relax” and he would do them for me. I see he was paying attention on Mother’s Day! LOL! (That’s a shark tattoo on his chest….)
Saturday morning: more Batman! Plus pancakes for M and overnight oats for me.
Next stop was soccer practice! He had one of his best practices yet, and it was a gorgeous day for soccer.
After soccer we hit up the gym, Mazen went to the park and market with Matt, and I worked on a few posts that are coming up.
For lunch I had leftover sliders and leftover collard greens and rice:
When Mazen came home, we went bike riding.
He’s got it!
I also did some much-needed weeding. Look at those Beanstalk Seeds grow!
My rose bush looks awesome too! (The yard, however…)
I tried this canned wine from Feast, which was just so-so.
And we had big salads with leftovers for dinner! Chicken, manchego, cucumber, red pepper. Croutons!
When the sun began to set, we fired up the fire pit! T and I sat by the fire pit on our second date and talked for hours, so it’s always special to do one now : )
You-know-who was on cloud nine! He thought we were camping and said to me in a hug, “Mommy I love this day!”
Sunday plans include: a women’s soccer game, photo editing, packing, and post-writing. Get to it!

A fire pit and sparklers sounds so summery! Wish I could do that here! Hope you have a chillaxed Sunday!

Now where do you get a customized bowl like that, Kath? It’s wonderful!

Aww poor Mazen’s hair is still crooked! You should go try to get yourself a free haircut out of that accident!

Getting it fixed this week!

Not a parent, but I thought it looked cute. Haha!

Love the fire pit!! We’re in the process of redoing our backyard and I definitely want to add a fire pit.

I wish we used ours more often! I think the hardest part is finding those rainless warm days, cool nights. Saturday was a perfect one!

That’s a shark vacuum right? Do you like it? Or do you still need another vacuum to get the rug?

This is the one I have (which I bought with a 20% off coupon) and it was one of the best expensive purchases I’ve ever made. I use it 5x a day, and it’s going strong a few years later. It works on carpers and wood, and it’s great for crumbs.

Looks like a relaxing weekend. I LOVE your fire pit!
Totally random question: What type of stick vacuum is that, and does it seems to work for cleaning up Gus’ hair? We just got a lab mix puppy, and our current hardwood sweeper is already not cutting it. Thanks!

I kinda think you shouldn’t bother getting Mazen’s hair “fixed.” It makes me smile big every time I see it. It’s the perfect complement to his exuberant smile. There’s only a small window of life when we don’t get worked up about our hair. This is his window. I love it. 🙂

I haven’t been stressing out about it (like some blog readers have!) I have tried to do it myself a few times with my home hair scissors and he won’t let me near him, so I’m just not worried 🙂 I am not going to try to fight him with a pair of sharp scissors in my hand near his eyes over something so minor! He doesn’t seem mind at all. Another official haircut is coming soon though.

Don’t you love when kids tell you it’s the best day? My son will tell me “today is going to be the best day for 5 reasons” then list them off. And the reasons are always so simple! It just goes to show it doesn’t take much to keep kids happy. They don’t need all the extravagant craziness – just a simple afternoon in the backyard!

Yes – melted my heart!

I am sure you hear this all the time but the way you and Matt have out Mazen ahead of any feeling you two may have is wonderful!!!! Mazen will thank you in the long run!! Many parents let feelings really interfere when the focus should be on the child!

Thank you <3
