After many weekends in a row of travel and parties, we had nothing on our calendar for this one! We still managed to fill it up, but it was nice to create our own schedule.
Friday afternoon we headed over to our friend Sylvia’s house. Mazen can’t quite say Sylvia so he calls her Saya. And Sylvia calls him Saya right back! Together they are The Sayas and they are quite the team!
High five!
Fist bump…
A miss!
Do-over..
All done!
They had lots of fun in the splash pool together
And shared a romantic dinner for two
I packed a PB&banana sandwich to eat since I had a soccer game that evening. Can’t have any veggies in my stomach while I sprint!
Here’s an oh-so-glamorous photo my dad took at my game on Thursday. #allhair
Thursday’s game we lost, but Friday’s game we WON! Yay! We didn’t have any girl subs, so I played the whole game. Exhausting! I am totally loving playing soccer again.
I had ice cream to celebrate and refuel
Saturday morning we headed downtown to the City Market. But first to Karen’s house to water her plants!
Where would I put our produce without a stroller!? I don’t even remember what I used to do. Note the kicking toddler was out playing at this time.
We shared a coconut strawberry popsicle – my favorite
I stopped by a UVA skin care booth to get my sun damage tested in a cool camera box thing. The photo on the left is me normal and on the right is the UV one. The red spots that look like freckles are sun damage (where I also have freckles!) She said my skin looked very good, which was great to hear because while I’m in the sun a lot, I do wear sunscreen religiously on my face.
Water break! Running is hard work.
For lunch we had foods from the market – a No Bull Burger (I love the sausage flavor!), cherries and green beans that I cook in butter and finished with parmesan – they were so delicious!
I went to the mall during naptime to return something and pop into Sephora and then to the grocery store.
Back home at 5pm, it was cocktail hour!
And bubble hour..
We all LOVE bubble hour!
For dinner Matt and I cooked more market goodies – taters and peas from Pot Luck Farm with bacon and squash. Summer good!
And for dessert there was more ice cream – Breyers mint choco chip! It’s that time of year where evening without ice cream feels empty. Not sure how I feel about that!
Sunday morning we ate banana chia pancakes with raspberries and sunbutter
And some of us also had watermelon, which is currently the only fruit that Mazen will eat.
And then we went to the gym for family workout!
We made Mazen this awesome broccoli and cheese quesadilla for lunch and I ended up eating about a quarter of it. Just look at that cheese melt!
Plus this plate of sides: leftover taters, beans and cherries.
Sunday evening we went to a neighborhood picnic for our street!
It was so lovely to get to know our neighbors better and put faces to addresses
Dinner plate {we brought a big massaged kale salad from our garden + bread}
Dessert plate (!!) …that pie!
Somebody had a great time and didn’t go to sleep until almost 9:30!
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
For not having plans, you did do quite a bit! 🙂 I think this time of year, ice cream is almost mandatory or at least popsicles, which I bought a box of yesterday when it hit 90. That quesadilla looks yummy!!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I got all excited when I saw that first picture with the cherries! Cherries are one of my FAVORITES and when I saw them at the store yesterday I just HAD to have them. I can’t believe how big Mazen is getting…and he has a girl friend?! 😉

Nothing sweeter than watching your kid play with a friend…
Love that bubble machine! The reviews on it don’t look super great though, so I’d be interesting in hearing an update if you guys continue to love it and maybe I’ll seek one out anyway 🙂
Serious berry envy from all the delicious looking fruit in this post!!

Chocolate pecan pie?? If it is it’s my FAVOURITE! All things Cherry…we’re just about to start picking our here in the next couple of weeks, favourite summer activity. Well done on the soccer game…and I’m with you on the ice cream…I’ve started making my own, sans ice cream maker and managed to get a good creamy non dairy ice cream with 4 hours of interval whisking! So worth it!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
oh my gosh, the bubble hour video definitely made me smile this morning! Looks like the perfect weekend, and great weather! It was all fog/mist/thunderstorms here in Chicago!
Jen says
Wheeee!
That video of Mazen running through bubbles made my morning. (I have an almost-eight month old and I feel like I’m getting a sneak peek into what’s coming up through your posts.) Thanks for sharing!
Emily @ It Comes Naturally Blog says
Mmm…those cherries look delicious!
The paddling pool seems inviting, it’s lovely to see Mazen and ‘Saya’ getting on so well 🙂 And congrats on your fab skin! Where did you get the picture taken?
KathEats says
It was at a booth at the market. Uva’s.
Stephanie @ My Freckled Life says
I really need to find one of those UV tester things! Being so fair skinned and freckled, I have to admit that I wasn’t always so diligent about putting on sunscreen! I’m afraid of what it would look like under one of those tests – but better to know and find out how to protect my skin even more!
Julie Rosene says
Sometimes the best weekends are ones where you just go with the flow. Love all the food pictures.
Julie says
I love that you play soccer. I’m not much for team sports, but I need to join something!
Melanie says
Ah, summer! You are taking full advantage of it. Those cherries!!! Luscious!

I love the pics of Mazen and Sylvia. So adorable 🙂 Also, your eats look SO good! That quesadilla makes my mouth water and the No Bull Burger sounds amazing too!
Wren says
Beautiful, colorful post! Those pictures of the kids are too cute. You look great, and I’m impressed with your sun damage photo — I have seen some pretty bad ones! Those cherries look great and so does the kale salad! Looks like you are having a great summer.

what a wonderful weekend!
what’s the name of that bubble making devise? I nee to get one for my bubble loving girl! 🙂
KathEats says
Fubber bubbles or something – but don’t get this one. It’s kind of a dud in the battery dept
coco says
oh. okay. will have to find another good one.
another question on the pool…. do you fill it with warm water or cold water? do you change the water everyday?
KathEats says
Cold from the hose. And yes we dump it after each use. I don’t fill it all the way up though.
Ella says
What a fun weekend! I love neighborhood get togethers/picnics. It’s so nice to meet everyone who shares your space!
BTW, Kath, I posted a video on my YouTube channel a few days ago with 3 recipes for quick, easy healthy summer breakfast ideas. One of them is for overnight oats and I wanted to thank you for being the first blogger to introduce me to the concept! I’d never heard of them before you posted something about them last summer. Here’s the link to the video if you’re interested-

Oh, thank you so much, Kath! That means a lot to me <3 Me too! We have some leftover coconut milk, so I'm going to give that a try. Yay!
Lori says
Potatoes, squash, bacon and peas – YUM! I’m putting that in the memory bank!
Sara says
Love when you post things you feed Mazen. My son is 13 months and I have a hard time coming up with new things to pack to send with him to my mother-in-law’s house! I’m scared he’s going to get tired of the same old stuff I pack him. I love it when we have leftovers for him too!
Tina says
Sounds like an awesome weekend! Question on the green beans – how do you cook them in butter? Just sautee in a pan and then sprinkle with parm? They looked so yummy in your pic!
KathEats says
Yes, first I steam them in the pan with water, then when they’re almost ready I add butter and then the parm
Tina says
Thanks, Kath! I am definitely going to try it this way! Have a good day!
Kelly says
