Have you heard of the site Chewy? It’s a one-stop-online-shop for everything your pets need. Here’s my Chewy review and all of Gus’s favorite things! This post is sponsored by Chewy.
What IS Chewy?
My sister recently admitted she thought Chewy.com was for granola bars 😆
Nope, it’s a huge pet supplies online store that sells everything for dogs and cats and less common pets like farm animals, reptiles (no, Mazen, we’re not getting a snake), and even horses. There’s an accredited pharmacy and their Autoship allows you to save on recurring pet purchases (like dog food and cat litter but also toys and treats). I was impressed to learn they regularly give back to animal shelters and pet rescues.
True Story: I ended a car trip with dog food on my lap
When we came home from Oak Island in June our house sitter let us know she had used the very last cup of food for Gus. We were rolling in with two cranky kids and a car packed with luggage and Thomas said we had to stop at the store for dog food right then.
He pulled into the pet supplies store and came out with a giant bag of food. Our car was so full of beach gear that he plopped right into my lap for the last leg of our journey home. It was heavy and hot on a 95 degree summer day! I joked: Maybe we should set up a regular order so this never happens again? I loved having Birch’s diapers on auto ship (which I recently ended now that he uses the potty!).
The very next week Chewy reached out to me to see if I wanted to write a review post about the site. This happens to me a lot – there is a need and the universe knows! We have now signed up to Autoship our dog food through Chewy. AKA Blue Apron for Gus.
What We Bought Gus from Chewy
I bought our usual dog supplies plus a few treats! The order came super fast – 3 days I think? My only complaint was that the order was split into two boxes.
Blue Buffalo Wilderness Grain-Free Dog Food For Seniors
Sorry Gus, but you’re 56 in dog years! You get the senior food now.
Blue Wilderness Trail Treats
These sound good enough for ME to eat:
- Real salmon is the first ingredient.
- Crunchy texture keeps teeth healthy and clean.
- Fortified with Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids plus antioxidants.
Ha! Mazen and Birch love to toss Gus a treat, especially when we have visitors to the house.
Mobility Bites
Soft chews for hips + joints. You might recall that Gus had two knee surgeries in the last year. He needs all the joint help he can get.
Rawhides
Gus gets one almost every night for his evening relax sesh. He plays with it and eats it!
Poop Bags + Container
We are always running out, so these would be a great product for Autoship! I usually just stuff one in my pocket, but in the summer I don’t always have pockets, so the container was a good add on.
FURminator DeShedding Shampoo
This is a new product that we stumbled upon while shopping. Gus is THE sheddingist dog in America, so I will report back if it reduces the fur on the floor just a smidge.
ZippyPaws Skinny Peltz
What kind of parents would we be if we didn’t include a toy?! Gus LOVES furry toys, but within 10 minutes there will be cotton fluff all over the house. These are fluff-free. He loves them!
Two dog accessories we already owned but I recommend:
FURminator
IYKYK. See comment above about shedding! Gus gets brushed on the weekends with ours and the birds are very happy with all the nest building materials that comes off!
The Gentle Leader
This was a GAME CHANGER for walking Gus, who loves to pull. No amount of treats would stop him on walks with me (he does anything Thomas says) but the gentle leader finally has him walking with me without pulling.
As a thank you, Chewy sent me this beautiful portrait of Gus!!
What a treasure <3
What are your pet’s must-have favorites?
Thanks to Chewy for sponsoring this post

LOVE the portrait!

Chewy has awesome customer service! We recently had to change our dogs food and I already had 2 unopened huge bags. When I reached out to them, they refunded my money and then told me to donate them to my choice of animal shelter.
Kath Younger says
Wow that’s great!

The portrait of Gus is amazing! Can you imagine being a Chewy staff member (or contractor) who gets to paint pet pictures?! I was just thinking about looking at Chewy to get flea-tick medicine delivered for my cats, so this must be a sign that it’s a good day to do it 🙂
Kath Younger says
They said if you upload a photo of your pet they surprise customers with portraits randomly!
Alisa says
Chewy is *the* best. I have prescription food auto shipped to me and it’s so convenient when life is super busy and I can’t make it to the pet store. But, they actually care about their customers, and that is why I always go back to order more. I’ve lost two pets in the last couple years and they not only refunded all the supplies I still had for them that I was hoping to return, they also told me to donate them (even a palate of prescription food worth at least $100 that had not been open), and they sent me a handwritten card and a huge bouquet of flowers for the losses. Every interaction with them has been fast and pleasant, even during the depths of the pandemic when everyone was stressed to the max.
Kath Younger says
That is so amazing to hear. Customer service is everything.
Jenn says
Have they asked you to upload your pets prescription frequently? My dog is on a special weight loss food and they wouldn’t ship my order even after I uploaded the script. It took me two tries, we finally worked it out and we did autoship twice, then they said they need another script. Too much hassle!! I get the food at my vet instead and found a smaller dog boutique to buy other things from, to support local business. I wanted it to work out because I have two dogs eating two different kinds of foods, so it would’ve been so convenient. Just thought I’d share in case others had similar experiences.
Aisa says
Nope – haven’t had that issue. I always have chewy call my vet for the prescription and then that’s it. Never had a problem.
Jenn says
Thanks! Maybe an isolated hiccup. We may try again once we are running low. I didn’t see an option for them to call our vet, just to upload the script (which I did, but then 2 months later they wanted a new one, even though the original was written for a year ?????).
Erin says
There is definitely an option for them to contact your vet! I have one dog’s food shipped on autoship, along with some treats and our typical dog shampoo. The other dog is on prescription food and I pick that and their flea/tick and heartworm meds up at my vet to help support their local business. Chewy is amazing though! My mom forgot to stop an autoship when my dad was sick and passed away…when she called and let them know they refunded her money and sent flowers. <3

I have been using Chewy for a few years and love them! Our food is on autoship and its one less thing I have to remember or think about. They even send a Holiday card to us in December each year. Love them:)
Kath Younger says
I have no idea why we didn’t do a subscription sooner!!
Linda says
Where did you get all of your cute small square magnets on your fridge???!!
Kath Younger says
They are from Social Print Studio! I love that they add personalization to our kitchen while keeping the fridge looking neat in a grid : )
Pat says
I have 3 cats, a senior and 2 year old siblings . I tried to order from Chewy, but they don’t ship to Alaska, so I’m still doing subscribe and ship from Amazon.
Kath Younger says
Oh bummer – hope they add it soon!
Laura says
Hi there! Veterinarian reader here 🙂 You may want to chat with Gus’ vet about his diet. Grain free and “boutique” diets have been linked to heart disease. Unless this diet is recommended specifically by his doctor for other reasons, you may want to consider switching to another senior diet for him! He is such a handsome boy and I love reading updates with him in them!
Kath Younger says
Thanks! He has an appt soon actually do we will run it by the vet 🙂

Pomeranian household here: You can not even begin to fathom the amount of fur that can come off of 2-3 15 lb dogs. We use the furminatior deshedding shampoo and ALSO the conditioner and they have been a godsend.
What works best for our boys is to later them up and then brush them gently with the shampoo in their fur… then rinse and do the same with the conditioner. The longer you can leave the product on wet hair the better it works, it seems. I’m not sure the conditioner would be necessary for a short-haired guy like Gus, but you may want to try it. That added softness/healthiness may reduce shedding too?
Kath Younger says
We noticed a difference right away!! Thank you for the tips : )
